Collectivo 25 Years from Jean Smaglik Wells on Vimeo.
In Celebration of Colectivo Coffee Roaster's 25 years in business, Colectivo asked Jean's Clay Studio to create another limited edition run of 800 mugs. Jean created a new design; her artist rendering of a coffee tree branch with coffee cherries. The new "Coffee Cherry" design was created in three classic Colectivo colors, Black, Red and Colectivo Blue. These limited edition mugs will only be available for direct sales all Colectivo Coffee Café's in Milwaukee, Madison and Chicago sometime in November 2018, until supplies last. Since each piece is hand crafted, each mug will be slightly different from the next. Dishwasher and Microwave safe. jeansclaystudio.com colectivocoffee.com Copyright 2018 @jeansclaystudio

Slight calamity this week when I accidentally mixed my clear glaze batch wrong. When I opened the glaze fire, the glaze was transparent but had a matte finish. I decided to try a quick-fire up to a hotter temperature to see if it would melt the glaze better. It did melt the glaze a little more but many pieces split and cracked, falling on one another and sticking to the kiln shelves. Total loss, but a learning experience of course. At least is is not in the middle of show season. Anyone need some shards?! #potterybooboos

I had my first "lifestyle" photo shoot of my pottery in a friend's beautiful kitchen. Images that I can now use for marketing and website. Another friend and colleague Stephanie Bartz - http://sbartzphotography.com - did the photo shoot! She did such a great job and we had such a blast. Thanks Stef!

I want this to go viral. I want these shirts to sell out, and then to do more shirt campaigns. This has nothing to do with ego, or making money. I’m not making any. This isn’t marketing.

This is an example of what I call a "batch" of work. These pieces, just over 100, were thrown, trimmed, and fashioned with handles last week. During the past 4 days I have applied the colored slip, and completed carving the entire batch. Once they are dried completely, they will be gently de-burred of the carving remnants and put into the kiln for the first firing. Once cooled and de-burred again, they will be painted with colored highlights and dipped in a clear glaze. The process ends after the second glaze firing to about 2150 degrees. Total time to completion: approximately 3 weeks. Many times there is overlap of a new batch being started while the other batch is being completed.

Went to see "Infinite Place: The Ceramic Art of Wayne Higby" at the RAM, Racine Art Museum in Racine, WIsconsin. The show closes on Jan. 4, 2015. Seeing Wayne's work in person was very inspiring. A wonderful collection featuring over 50 pieces of his work, including drawings and architectural panels. From Wayne's artist statement: "Earth, sky, time, space: my work is a meditation on the relationship between mind and matter. It is not about landscape." He says in his Reflection: "Making is a form of thinking and knowing. Seeing, making, thinking, and knowing merge into a process of discovery and self-reification that continually guides me as a meaningful means to navigate the sea of ever-drifting doubt. I engage landscape as the panoramic outer membrane of an inner manifestation of unity - a silent, unseen, unknowable resonance of coherence. http://www.ramart.org/content/infinite-place-ceramic-art-wayne-higby
