Me, the DM, laughing: Does a 24 hit? My level 2 players: dOesS A 24 HiT???
I felt now was a good time for the memes-of-the-year recap:
OH MY GOD
Me, constantly
Jailing anyone with over $5 million in assets.
God I hope the biosphere collapses before any of you get any amount of political power
Sounds like something someone with more than $5 million dollars would say…
Also just want to add, I was raised by a mostly single mother who makes about ~$30,000 a year. We were poor, but never went without. A little more frugal than most but we stayed comfortable, which is a lot more than millions of other Americans can say.
$5,000,000 is over double what my mom would make in SIXTY years. I’m all for a maximum income, always have been. If you can’t make $5,000,000, last your family and provide an upper class lifestyle and all the opportunity it provides, that’s on you.
And if you feel like you need $10,000,000 or $100,000,000 or $1,000,000,000 just because you can, you need to spend more time thinking about people who live off $15,000 a year or less, because there are millions of them and they can only eat crumbs for so long.
@millennial-review: “i dont know what these ‘business owner’, ‘stock market’, or ‘fleeing the country with all their assets’ things are, but they sound pretty unimportant & im pretty sure with my experience being raised by a single mother on $30,000 a year i know how to run an entire nations economy easily. no, i dont know what a cambodia, venezuela, or zimbabwe is either.”
It’s funny that you think “business owners” are going to “flee the biggest consumer economy on the fucking planet” just because there is a maximum income set. Which means a lot more than just shelling out all money over a set amount to the government. Forced philanthropy or corporate investment is great for the average person and a productive way to spend that money. I don’t think my experience being poor gives me special knowledge on how to run a nations economy. I think that was studying economics and political science/political theory for years. I’m actually studying for my corporate law final right now, so I think I probably know a little bit more about securities regulation and the markets therein and their functions than you do and certainly a lot more than you assume I do. I could be wrong about that, but I doubt it.
The fact is, a maximum income isn’t going to turn the world’s largest, most developed post-industrial economy into any of those countries you’ve listed. Cambodia has been ravaged by war, American imperialism, and totalitarianism (a product of both left and right wing regimes, not spooky spooky communism). Similarly Zimbabwae was a mismanaged military dictatorship with inflation worse than anywhere in the world and no economy to speak of to get out of that death cycle. Venezuela’s economy was solely based on oil, a singular commodity subject to massive swings, and thanks to American shale extraction (fracking) the price of oil tanked and hasn’t ever really recovered. Which has destroyed a lot of economies, like Russia’s, not just Venezuela. It doesn’t helped it was also a mismanaged shit show, because it could have weathered the storm better if it were structured more like say, Norway.
THE UNITED STATES IS THE MOST DYNAMIC AND LARGEST CONSUMER ECONOMY ON THE PLANET, COMPARING IT TO THOSE COUNTRIES IS ASININE. The maximum wage is a real policy position, that can be debated. But not with your shit logical fallacies and super poorly chosen ideologically driven examples. The United States is THE LARGEST MOST DEVELOPED ECONOMY ON THE PLANET AND IT DIDN’T GET THAT WAY THROUGH 26% PERSONAL INCOME TAX RATES. IT GOT THAT WAY THROUGH DECADES OF POST WAR DEVELOPMENT FUNDED LARGELY BY THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT AND CORPORATE/PERSONAL UPPER INCOME TAX RATES OF 70+%. WE’RE JUST LUCKY IT WAS BUILT LONG ENOUGH TO BE CONTINUALLY CHIPPED AWAY AT FOR DECADES SINCE RONALD REAGAN, OTHERWISE OUR COUNTRY WOULD PROBABLY BE A LOT WORSE OFF. That’s why I say poor people can only eat crumbs for so long, becasue the money and resources for a better life are there, we just choose to act like we all depend on the unjust status quo, somehow ignoring decades of American history where we were on a MUCH DIFFERENT path. Setting the progressive income tax at say, 100% for all personal income over $100,000,000 with strict repatriation rules (policing use of offshore accounts), isn’t going to turn the United States into any of those countries. Even if those billionaires are just dumping their assets into their companies, if Bezos had to give his 50+ billion to Amazon, that development and stock increase would benefit millions of regular Americans it currently is not. And there are ways to keep that money in the United States economy and not in some off shore account. It just takes the resources for enforcement. Which you could probably pay for with a lot more money. This isn’t about simply demanding these people pay up. There are a lot of corporate schemes that could be constructed that give workers a lot more say over the capital being pushed back into the economy. Based on many of the market structures we already use. I don’t have time to go into more, but it’s not just taking people’s money. Corporate responsibility is a policy outcome and one that we can pursue in a lot of ways. Something about people on the right just assuming they know what the fuck they’re talking about when it comes to economics/government really pisses me off, so I had to respond. Good on you, but now I have to go back to learning the shit you pretend to know something about on the internet.
(Sorry if I sound salty, it’s because I am, I just like got an email because this post mentioned me and then I couldn’t stop thinking about how dumb that Venezuela shit is when I have a lot of things to do, so I had to respond).
This post isn’t written in any known human language
Is this what understanding a newspaper political cartoon is like?
I think I like the Russia investigation scandal because it is all the fun of politics with nearly zero real-world consequences outside of elite political circles. Like the immigration scandals are absolutely heartbreaking - I can barely even read about ICE or the Republican narrative about the “caravan” without just collapsing in a fit of rage.
Pee tapes? See, now that’s just funny.
yeah this whole Red Scare Mk II thing, it’s very funny to westerners who don’t have to worry about growing anti-russian sentiment, being harassed for being visibly russian on social media and daring to express an opinion not endorsed by #RESISTANCE clowns, and having to wonder whether you need to renounce your first citizenship to avoid trouble in the future!
but sure like russians aren’t people and never immigrate anyway, can’t imagine there’s russians in the west affected by fearmongering about Russian Interference.
like, you really don’t have to belittle legitimate bullshit some of us are dealing with to underscore how much you care about other issues, you can care about anti-russian propaganda and about trump administration’s genocidal immigration policies and actions, you don’t need to Inject Some Levity at the expense of real people just bc it happens that we’ve been on the wrong side of a propaganda war since the 1950s.
I honestly didn’t think of this. Are people going after everyday Russians over this, something that is clearly just fuckery amongst a very very elite group of people? Fucking hell, man. Russia Investigation fun is cancelled.
Every time
I know it’s not hard to point out reactionaries hypocrisy when it comes to like safe spaces or hug boxes or whatever but genuinely how much of an echo chamber do you have to exist in for you to think this is a reasonable thing to say
reblog if attacking fascism is really the hill you want to die on
this is literally like one of the most justified and honorable hills you could die on??? lol??
