“Almost,” Ben was still hunched over his robe, carefully trying his best to keep his hem straight across the second sleeve. Several times he had had to pause his sewing to focus, keep track of which trail he was sensing. It was proving to be more difficult than he would like to admit, but when he caught the mental scent of his Master approaching again, he had quickened his pace.
“You first went through the meditation garden… down the southern path.. cut… cut east…” He tried to recall as he hurriedly finished the last stitches before knotting the thread off and cutting it with his teeth.
“Did I?” Luke asked, playing at befuddled. He squinted, turned his head this way and that, stroked his chin thoughtfully with his robotic hand. “Am I?”
He looked down at his feet. “But how did I get here?”
Ben’s eyes narrowed as he looked up from the robe on his lap, lips pursing. For as long as he knew his uncle, had apprenticed under him, shadowed him for years, he still sometimes was baffled as to what the man was thinking.
“You walked?” He ventured carefully.
“Ah, yes. That seems quite probable. Good.” Luke bobbed his head with a mystified smile, patting Ben on the shoulder. The boy was always so serious. He must’ve gotten that from his mother, so rarely relaxed. Ah, Leia. Now there was someone that could rule a galaxy.
“Shall we see if your cape still cleans floors?”

“It’s time for the galaxy to stop depending on Jedi. The Force guides all, but first people must be willing to listen.”
“I don’t think we have time to wait. Whole systems of people are dying out there.”
Whole systems were always dying. Whole new systems were coming to life, too. People always forgot. The idea of bringing balance to the Force was laughable, a prophesy created by arrogance. The Force was always in balance, the people were the ones upset. Death, life, destruction, rebirth... The Force was both nurturer and destroyer. It took no sides. He shouldn’t, either.
And yet, blood calls.
“My work here is not complete. I fear I cannot return with you... but perhaps I can teach you.”

“Leia is force sensitive. She could have found me, if she had time. This world needs her. I- have already played my part.”
“That’s not true. There are still people who need you. We fought so hard to find you.”

With a shudder, the gleaming TIE began to lift A look of total glee swiped his face clean, erased some of the wear of age and loneliness from his face. It didn’t last long. The shaking increased with every foot they lifted off the empty hunk of rock before, with a final shudder that made his teeth clatter, it went crashing back down to the surface.
Luke sulked, his lower lip sticking out under the grey whiskers covering his face.
“Ah, no matter,” he stated finally. “I can fix that right up.” Given enough time.
Unfortunately, it didn’t seem they would have that time. Luke looked up just in time to see a large ship appear over the horizon of their small chunk of rock. Dark. Looming.
Typical Empire stuff. Luke snorted, flopping back. He turned around to look at the blond woman behind him, his mouth twisting to the side. “I think your friends are here.”
Without delay, the ship caught the malfunctioning TIE in its tether, and the handful of Stormtroopers that entered all went rigid with surprise at the sight they found. Their Captain…and the last Jedi, tucked away in this tiny scrap of rubble. Phasma could practically feel the excitement mingled with fear that crackled off of them as they rushed to snatch the Jedi into custody, and help their Captain to her feet.
“Everyone on him!” she snarled as two troopers assisted her out of the fighter. “Get him to a cell! I want him restrained and well guarded! Contact the General immediately!”
It felt like victory, at last.
“Are we going on a trip? Fun!” Luke beamed at the woman even as a stormtrooper threw shackles on him.
They locked his hands in front of him, a man at each elbow. They really didn’t know what they were doing, poor bastards. So, yes, he assumed the First Order was made up of the Empire’s remains, given thirty years... Did they not know he’d been directly responsible for blowing up the first Death Star, when the Force was new to him and piloting an X-Wing for basically the first time in his life? Poorly kept records, sheer incompetence, or overblown ego? All three?
Ah well. He might as well go along with it as long as we wasn’t in immediate danger. Hey, plenty of benefit in finding out who the General was. Getting a good look at their base. Fun stuff.
“Where are we going?”
True to his word, Luke returned after an hour. Several times he had sought out a group of his litter of jedi babes, walking paths with small groups of them, one hanging from his shoulders or swung up in his arms, using their life force to make his harder to track.
He mingled in and out with them, playing different games, and when he returned he had the glow of a pleased caretaker, lightened by the joy of children.
“Hemming complete?”

“NEPHEW BEN, YOU’RE PERFECTLY CAPABLE OF JUMPING OUT OF THAT TREE AND LANDING ON YOUR FEET USE THE FORCE, OVER COME YOUR FEAR, WHATEVER, AND IF YOU DON’T I’M EATING YOUR DINNER.”
That was precisely what Ben was trying to avoid doing. It’d be too big a risk, too small a margin for error. Grabbing that branch would far safer, if, well, it didn’t decide to break.
When the branch was close enough, Ben inched his way onto it, and of course, fate chose it to snap beneath him.
Luke watched as the branch broke and sent Ben tumbling down. He did not move to help him, though he did a brief force sweep to ensure that only dirt and leaves would break the boy’s fall without the danger of lurking rocks ready to crack open skulls.
“One must first overcome their fears,” he stated matter-of-factly, clicking his robotic fingers.
He hadn’t let Ben fall to laugh about it. The boy had to realize that falling wasn’t so bad, that he could survive the landing, that pain was temporary… or he’d never be able to improve his force jumps.
When Ben opened his eyes, he wasn’t nearly as dead as he’d expected.
He was hovering rather comically at the foot of the tree, just barely above the ground. It was as though he’d smacked into an unseen pane of glass like a cartoon character.
Remember how I said that he wasn’t quite dead…,
I lied.
When he saw he fellow pupils creep out of the jungle tangle, he turned as red as the blood in his veins and expired from sheer embarrassment.
Luke watched Ben crumple, face bright red, trying to hide from the little babes emerging from the foliage. He shook his head, a little saddened. Ben cared far too much about such small things. He worried (daily) that fear would grow like weeds in the boy and choke out the light.
“Let’s go back to camp and eat,” he told the group, picking up the smallest of his trainees, a toddler, and holding her in the crook of his arm as he started the walk back.
Ben knew the way.

That and like. She has better reasons for knowing this stuff than the above dudes do.
Like, of COURSE she knows all about mechanics- she’s been scavenging starships for parts most of her life, so knowing what’s what and how it works is a crucial life skill.
When she handles a lightsaber, she’s very obviously using it like she would a staff (and spends most of the fight running away from Kylo anyway). You know, like the staff she carries with her all the time for self-defense in the desert hellhole she grew up in.
Everything we see her do with the Force is stuff Kylo did in front of her- he invades her mind, and she invades his and then mind-tricks a Stormtrooper (which still takes her three tries). He Force-holds her and later tries to Force-pull a lightsaber, and she Force-pulls it to her instead.
Practically everyone in the Star Wars universe is casually multilingual, and the only character in TFA who’s shown to be unable to understand at least one of Chewie or BB-8 is Finn, who was raised and brainwashed as a Stormtrooper (and neither the Empire nor the First Order seems to be much of an equal opportunity employer when it comes to species). Given her scavenger history, Rey having met astromech droids before isn’t just possible, but likely.
Her skills are better-established than either Luke’s or Anakin’s before they matter, but nope, she’s the Mary Sue, apparently.
For god’s sake, if you take Episode 1 at its word, Anakin was a goddamn virgin birth caused by the will of the force, and has an extensive prophecy about him being the Chosen One.
Like. Seriously.

I never understood the thing about Anakin not having a dad. Like….if the Force created him…..and he was supposed to be the Chosen One….and instead he turned into Darth Doomhelmet…..does that mean the Force fucked up?
((Basically the idea is that Darth Plagueis manipulated the midichlorians to create a sentient life form, which turned out to be Anakin, idk what the actual prophecy was but I think the idea was a child would be born with an insanely high force potential and would eventually bring balance to the force, whatever that actually means))
