Hello! To celebrate the 20th anniversary of Pokemon, a bunch of my friends and I did drawings of what the next 7th generation of Pokemons might look like if they came out! These were mine, “Koryou” and “Naitoragon”, a steel & dragon type pokemon!
Please come check out the rest here! Everyone made such rad looking pokemons -- Sugimori sensei.... notice us!

Thanks again to Nak for coming up with the idea and putting them all together!
your observational drawings (in your story portfolio) surprised me. they were so fun! it seems that you were more concentrated on designing the characters than actually drawing what you saw. could you comment a little on those drawings (whenever you have time that is)?
How can I not answer right away when you ask so nicely!
Whenever I go out to draw people I try to draw with one goal in mind – so the time is spent more efficiently with a purpose. It could be anything from gestures, caricaturing, looking at clothes, drawing in values, drawing sets, drawing stories, etc. And sometimes you get inspired to push drawings more, add some colors, draw funny expressions, I don’t know, it can go any where!! And then I have to remind myself what I was focusing on in the first place haha
I noticed that one of the pieces in your portfolio is a storyboard of an x files script? Would you mind if I asked what the assignment was?
So we basically got real scripts of one of the episodes from the X-files series to board out. (Mine was the opening few minutes from Season 2, episode 20 “Humbug”–which is on Netflix!) We weren’t allowed to watch the actual series until we finished our assignments, and I think all the interns did a way better job than the original episodes! I’ve included the actual script that was given to me – that I’ve made messy sketches and notes on it – in the portfolio as well. Everything was done traditionally, papers and sharpies, and we were all dead afterwards.
I’ve uploaded my 2016 portfolio! (Probably will fix few things in the future)

It was a crazy busy year, trying to survive in the U.S and going to community colleges haha. Still have films to go...! Let’s do this!
what program do you use for color scripts/boards? I heard you can do it on tvpaint but idk how to export it with just the images...
Its actually really easy to export TVpaint images! Just click export and change the output settings to jpegs or png (Make sure you only have one frame of each drawings first before exporting so you don’t end up exporting like a minute worth of frames!!!) I wish I can screencap it and show it to you but I don’t have TVpaint on my laptop and I’m not at school right now…
Right now, I’m using flash to board and I just screencapped images one by one because my film isn’t too long this year.
For a colorscript, I just use Photoshop!
What did you major/minor in in college? I want to go into the same career as you, but I have no idea what classes to take, and my guidance counselor is no help.
I’m sorry I’m replying so late! I didn’t realize I had messages….
I’m a Character Animation student at Calarts. I took the regular required classes such as 2D animation, perspective, CG animation, Story, Life Drawing.
And then other animation related classes such as Character Design, Flash, Cinematography, Painting etc…
+few random, interesting critical study classes.
hope this helps!
Your art style is sooo cool!!
Thank you so much! :D
I thought I would try out some more variations before I finalize the look of my film.
I kind of liked these versions. oh well!
Here’s the color script of my pug film!
Few things from my pug film that I made during the winter that I never got to upload... maybe one day.
but I will be uploading the full color script soon!
30 second funsies
I took photos of the process for today’s painting for fun~
Each are roughly 20mins. She had a great 70s face, I enjoyed painting her very much!
This semester, I told myself that I waited long enough and finally decided to take up oil painting. And it’s been really fun!
Each week I can see myself getting better at using the medium and I’m enjoying the progress. Dave Lebow has been great at guiding us-- most of us were just starting out! Also, my good friend Brian has been helping me a lot-- from encouraging me to take the class, to taking me through step by step from the beginning. Check out his awesome art on his tumblr!
(each of the paintings are 3hr sessions)
