Derek knew Lydia and Stiles trusted Jeremy, he knew the man had been useful when the Pack was researching vampires and wanted to understand more about the Originals. The wolf had been there at the diner, had listened to his heartbeat while the Banshee spoke with him–Jeremy had not lied about his knowledge. Still, he also hadn’t lied about his hunting practices, Derek agreeing with Scott about needing to tread lightly around the hunter. He wasn’t Allison or Argent, they barely knew him. They didn’t know what ‘stepping out of line’ actually meant to him.
It was obvious however, they now had a bigger enemy to worry about. As long as Jeremy didn’t become a problem, it was possible he could be useful.
The wolf stepped to the side, allowing the hunter a better view of the rift, nodding to answer his question. There was little reason to withhold information about the events, considering how public everything had been and continued to be, Derek deciding to be honest with him. “Whatever that ritual was, it seems a gateway to hell was opened. They used supernatural beings and the full moon to summon demons.” He paused. “–And Lilith.”
...
jeremy stepped closer. he opened his journal to a blank page and began a rough sketch of the rift, trying his best to get any inscriptions or any other useful information without stepping too closely. “stupid question time,” he warned, putting the journal away for the time being. “have we tested what happens if something goes through there? not a person, obviously,” although he could think of a certain doppelganger vampire he wouldn’t mind shoving in there, “but, say. a rock. a plant. an evil vampire, maybe.” worth a shot. jeremy turned around, his eyes wide. “alright. i might not have been the best kid in sunday school, but you mean to tell me that a bunch of demons and lilith came out of that?” he glanced from the rift, back to derek. what the fuck. “cool. have you had any prior experience with demons in this town before?”
alicezhou:
Alice sighed, not exactly happy to be doing this, but trying her best to focus on her priorities. “Look, when my too-kind-for-her-own-good banshee friend told me she had something with a guy that I knew was a hunter, but she didn’t, I got a little suspicious. I doubt you wouldn’t be worried if one of your friends started dating a vampire.” She crossed her arms, uncomfortable with the whole situation. “But I know you’re working with the McCall pack and they trust you, so I just wanted to… Know where your head is, I guess.” With all the werewolves, banshees and other supernaturals she cared about at risk, Alice wasn’t willing to blindly trust a hunter none of them knew a few months ago. “You know, there’s a whole demon situation in town now, and I need to make sure they’re safe to focus only on that. I heard you only hunt vampires..? If that’s true, I can leave you alone right away, if the others are not in danger. ” Her casual tone didn’t make it seem like she was saying ‘I’ll stay out of the way so you don’t hunt me’. It was more of a ‘hunt me all you want, long as my friends are safe’.
...
jeremy’s eyebrows furrowed together as she spoke. she hated him because she thought he had something with nicola? and here, he was starting to think he was the irrational one for not trusting her just because she was a vampire. hm. “first of all, we went on a date.” not the point. “second, i don’t love that you’re comparing me to a vampire here.” full offense. he leaned slightly on the counter, though, because he was curious about what she had to say. was he working with them? he and lydia were keeping each other in the loop, sure, but . . . hey, whatever got him in good with this town. he would take whatever in people thought he had. “i’m figuring out what i know about demons as quickly as i can. here’s the deal. thanks to some freaky magic i barely understand, i’m the last living member of the five. you know, the guys created to kill silas? fun times. because of that, i’m hard-wired to kill vampires.” jer let that sit for a second before he continued. “luckily for you, my sister and co. worked very hard to make sure i only kill the bad ones. fish are friends, not food, you know? i’m good now. so as long as you’re actually a vegetarian vampire like you claim to be, you’ll be good too.”

Perhaps it was unusual to invite Jeremy ice skating, but he hadn’t been in forever and between the full-moon and the fact that Gabe was apparently alive once again, it felt like the perfect time to do something he loved and was actually good at - both a rarity in his mind. The rink was rarely busy during the summer unless the local youth hockey team had practice, and while the top twenty radio station that blared through the tinny speakers wasn’t the best sound objectively, it had a certain nostalgic quality to it that just added to the atmosphere.
Setting his skates beside him, he checked the time on his phone, cursing himself for showing up so much earlier than he and Jeremy had agreed. He didn’t like just…sitting around feeling awkward, but he didn’t want to step out onto the rink and lose track of time. His best compromise was to scroll through twitter and try not to be too disheartened by the state of the world, hopefully wasting enough time for the man to arrive while also avoiding unwanted conversation with strangers.
jeremy had never been a show up early kind of guy — hell, he was barely an arrive on time guy — but he tried his best when it was something that actually mattered. like seeing his friends. not to mention that having a well paying job certainly didn’t hurt his attempts at punctuality. in short, he didn’t want to keep a good dude like nolan waiting . . . but it looked like that was too little too late, considering he found nolan already there. he grabbed skates from the counter, said a prayer to whichever god was in charge of ice sports, and went over to nolan. “hey! sorry, i hope i didn’t keep you waiting.” jer set his stuff down, staring at the skates for a second to figure out how to put them on. “i don’t blame you if you end up getting tired of me hugging the wall. it’s been . . . ” eleven years? at least. the last time he remembered going skating, his parents were very much alive. “a while.”
littledeadhunter:
“Some lady, she..she said she was drunk, told me about some mob mentality. I tried leaving and..” He closed his eyes, shaking his head. “It doesn’t matter, I stabbed her but…I have to leave before she comes looking.”
...
none of that made any sense to jeremy whatsoever, but he had slightly more important matters at hand. namely, making sure the boy didn’t bleed out right there on main street. “okay. you’re gonna be okay, kid. what’s your name? i’m jeremy. i wanna help you, alright? can you come with me?” sorry alek if he got blood anywhere, but the tea shop was a closer spot to do triage than jeremy’s car. with his permission, jer led him a couple shops down to alek’s store, fumbling his key in the lock until he got it opened. “we got a first aid kit here, don’t worry.”
de-leons:
jergilbrt:
“yeah? if you have that kind of bond with her, imagine how tight i am with my own car. let’s think that through a little next time.” as he drove, jeremy kept glancing over at xander. probably more than he should have — alaric fearfully yelling ‘eyes on the road, jer!’ came to mind — but he just … needed the peace of mind. to make sure xander wasn’t some hallucination, or a ghost here to fuck with him, or … jer just needed to know that he wasn’t going anywhere. and he planned to keep it that way. he nodded, unsure what to say that wasn’t some half-hearted ‘yeah, totally’ or ‘i know what you mean.’ because he did, to a point, but jeremy had never had to dig himself out of the earth. whether it was the gilbert ring or bonnie, he always knew who or what had brought him back. he’d never just been plucked from the afterlife and plopped back on earth. “shit,” he finally said, always a way with words. subconsciously his hand reached out and found xander’s, giving it a tight squeeze. “we’ll figure it out. we’ll find out what brought you back and how to keep you here.” jeremy sighed, trying not to laugh at his final comment. “just you wait, xan. you haven’t seen the half of it.”
It was a stupid kind of relief to turn his head to stare at Jeremy and find him already looking back. It eased some of the dull ache in his chest at the very poignant reminder of their situation. He was alive, and his best friend would help keep him that way. The hand in his helped hide the tremble to them that he knew might appear if released. He didn’t have to be okay just yet. He’d settle for mostly alive. Squeezing back, he did his best to lighten the load with a slightly forced chuckle. “Oh, i’m sure. Can’t get rid of me that easy. Now that I know there’s way more to the world than I thought, I need a good year at least to figure out who had it right. Supernatural? Harry Potter? Aquamarine?” He let his eyes drift shut for a few moments, content in the knowledge he was certainly in better hands now than when he’d arrived. “Just get me to that promised holy grail of a shower, Gilbert. I’m gonna spend the rest of this car ride making a list of reasons I think you should join me in it.”
— End.

Derek wouldn’t deny that the books and documents the Pack had been researching were useful, their collection growing every day as they found more and more information that could help them at least keep their new enemies at bay until they could figure out how to defeat them. However, even if the written words were reliable and effective, there was a lot the Pack could learn from their surroundings, the rift in the preserve the first place the wolf wanted to inspect. He knew well enough not to get too close, not needing to test the thing to know it was dangerous. But maybe there was something at the site of the ritual that could tell them more, that could help them…
Footsteps.
The wolf turned quickly, a growl rumbling in his chest as his senses picked up the scent. The hunter. Derek waited for Jeremy to walk into view, inspecting the other carefully. “You shouldn’t be here.”
...
“yeah? by the looks of it, nobody should be.” jeremy wondered just what the fuck he’d missed that night. thank god for davina telling him what she knew. he shoved his hands in his pockets as he approached, checking out the rift for the first time. this didn’t look like any ritual he’d ever heard about, and there had been multiple just in mystic falls. what the fuck had happened here? “so . . . we’re dealing with demons now, huh?” why the hell not. beacon hills already had banshees, chimeras, whatever the hell a kanima was. why should demons be any different? “you were here after it happened, right?”

Kelsey usually tried to avoid certain places around town, and the store Jeremy worked in was definitely near the top of that list. Everything looked way too breakable, and she’d get way too distracted and shatter something belonging to a dead monk or spill tea in less than ten minutes flat. But she was restless, waiting on a call far too ominous to be good and in need of distraction and plus, she really did want to see if they hosted tea parties there. So making her way in, the brunette glanced around before searching him out, finding him alone. “So listen I know you had an issue before with teaching me how to – “ She mimes staking, and then fangs. “But what about teaching me how to smite –” Kels glances around conspiratorially, leaning in. “– Demons. Seriously, time to go full Buffy.” She’d never seen the show, but she’d guessed a lot of the premise, so. | @jergilbrt
...
it sure was a good thing that alaric had put him in touch with other hunters over the years, because the man certainly never said jack shit about demons. he was studying what he’d copied down years ago into one of his journals, trying to determine why the existence of demons was such a surprise. clearly there were no limits. “okay.” he closed the book with a laugh, appreciating her charades attempt. “okay, wow. first of all, i never watched buffy. i was too busy living it.” jer waved the journal in the way, slipping it underneath the register for the time being. “second, as soon as i figure out how to smite one, i’ll be sure to let you know.” demons. the fuck? what was next, angels?
jackscn:
…
“They have,” Jackson corrected. He was living a somewhat peaceful life in London when all this shit came crashing down. “Really now? You know some might say the same thing about me.” He didn’t know just how much Jeremy knew about him but it was a harmless information he didn’t mind sharing. “How do you know whether the things you hunt are innocent or not?” he asked. Jackson was more than familiar with hunters and their so-called ‘codes’. He was also more than aware of how easily said hunters can break them. No matter what Jeremy’s answer was, it’s not like Jackson could judge given the color of his werewolf eyes. But at least those deaths weren’t his fault. He realized that now. Jackson smiled. He was cute, thinking that he was match against Jackson, especially once transformed. “Okay tough guy. That’s good to know.” At his admission about not being able to leave, Jackson raised an eyebrow. “You’re no ordinary hunter, are you?” he asked. If any of it was previously divulged in the radio station, Jackson had no clue. He has Spotify Premium and Itunes.
...
jeremy sighed. it seemed like he’d been through this a hundred times with the people of this town, but he supposed he couldn’t blame them. if he was any less human and someone came by and said they were a hunter, he’d be freaked out too. but still. he was about two days away from putting together an informational pamphlet. “if i see it killing someone, i assume it’s not innocent. is that a sufficient answer?” jer was a little surprised the jackson didn’t know more about him. maybe information only flowed one way amongst the pack? it was interesting to think about. he’d have to investigate more another time. “technically a supernatural hunter. i won’t bore you with the details, but i’m basically hardwired to kill vampires. super fun times. i have no interest in killing werewolves or kanimas or fairies or whatever else is in your pack unless you start hurting people.”

This time, Alice went to Tea and Trinkets looking for the hunter. The pack seemed to trust him, which meant they were counting on Jeremy for information and help, and Alice needed to see for herself if they were in safe hands. With actual demons taking the town, she decided to try to get over her first (or second? maybe third?) impressions and focus on what really mattered: the people she needed to protect. “Gilbert? Hey, I come with a peace offer.” She said, walking into the store and looking for him.
...
he’d been in alek’s shop long enough that he was starting to ignore all the other creepy, mystical, probably-supernatural energy in the building in favor of the sensation that a vampire was near. and lo and behold — “what, you’re not going to threaten me this time?” jeremy arched an eyebrow. he’d heard about the ritual, he didn’t know if it had affected her too badly, but he was still on guard. “what do you want?”
hcpelessdevotion:

Of course the first person she would see would be Jeremy bloody Gilbert on his patrol. Her shiny red convertible came to a screeching halt beside him, the roof being down made it easy to talk to him without getting out.
“I need your help, Gilbert.”
...
well, son of a bitch. as if this night couldn’t get any worse. jeremy crossed his arms, staring her down. like hell he was going to help her, not if she knew anything about kol being back. but ignoring her wasn’t going to get any information, was it? “what?” he came a couple steps closer, just outside of the passenger side door. “what could you possibly need my help with, rebekah?”

When Gabe had broken free of the womans grasp his hand went immediately to his neck, it stung and was bleeding heavily. He managed not to cry out in pain as he just ran. He didn’t stop running, needing to get away from her as fast as possible.
Once he realized she hadn’t come after him he slowed down, stumbling forward. He’d forgotten all about his quest for food, instead now just wanting to get home and forget about this awful experience.
He had turned a corner only to collide with a solid form, looking up to find a strange man in front of him he flinched back, wincing when it pulled at the wound on his neck.
...
jeremy was trying to get in contact with elena. he hadn’t seen her all day and he wanted to make sure she was safe. he was just finishing his fourth voicemail whenever he collided with someone, and he nearly yelled whenever he saw the state the guy was in. “holy shit.” jeremy glanced around, making sure nobody else was near. there was no way this wasn’t a vampire attack. shit. “hey.” he put a gentle hand on the kid’s shoulder, trying to calm him down. “hey. look at me. did you see who did this to you? what do you remember?”
de-leons:
“She’s seen me through some shit, Gilbert. Me and her have that eternal bond. Don’t be too jealous now.” He murmured, eyes closed still and letting the air wash over him. He also hummed in agreement at the thought of a new gun, considering it a prize for raising from the dead. Consolation prizes or whatever you called them. At the question of his thoughts, Xan’s eyes flickered back to gaze at the other, contemplating. Taking self stock, in a sense. Words weren’t the easiest to find in that moment, but he’d try for him. His gaze roamed the man’s profile, searching for changes he’d missed, scars he’d accumulated over their time apart. “I don’t feel…right, I guess. I feel off kilter. Like whatever magic did this put me back together but tossed out half the screws and directions.” He flexed his hands, stretching them for the familiar callouses he’d had. Earned. “I don’t know if that means jack shit saying it to someone else but. I’ve done a lot of things, seen a lot of things. But it was never this. I never had to just crawl from the —” A pause, longer. “Seems stupid to let something that’s already over with fuck with my head but…I can’t shake that feeling, Jer.” It was easier to close his eyes once more, take a deep breath through his mouth and exhale through his nose until his heart steadied, just a bit. “And this town gives me the fucking creeps.”
