âNo, I do not have the capacity to not be weird. Deal with it.â She smiled at Scott, never losing a chance to tease him. It was so cute to see him blush⌠But the teasing would have to wait, because now Alice was focusing on Kelsey. âAlright, Kels. You do it in your time, and when you feel safe, but donât you ever think that itâs fair that anyone puts my safety before yours. What happened last night was a mess of an emergency, but, on any normal-ish day, youâre my priority, so youâre theirs, too.â She gave in, giving Kelseyâs hair another kiss.
The pack mentality was something Alice wasnât sure if she fully understood, or something she could properly be a part of, but she understood family, loyalty and responsibility. She knew that Scott would get what she was saying, as he also he his own Kelseys - kids who were no longer literal kids, but would always be someone you look after, someone youâd protect with your life as if they were your own babies.Â
She paid close attention when Scott talked about the Beta. If he was related to Derek and Malia, and part of Scottâs pack, he was probably trustworthy, but what was that in the Alphaâs tone when he said âfor the most partâ? âHe can be trusted as in, youâd trust him with my life?â She asked, slowly letting go of Kelsey to look Scott in the eyes. âDid he go there without telling you about it?â No way Scott would have told anyone to move Kelsey during a full moon. She could have gotten hurt physically, or even attacked someone, which would leave terrible emotional scars.
As the attention was turned on Scott, the werewolf realized he wished the ground could swallow him. Until he heard Kelsey mention the size of his pack. âPack is pack, the size of it doesnât matter,â he explained gently. âThe choice is only yours to make,â he clarified⌠He could never use his status to dominate another into submission, not out of ego or arrogance, not out of malice. It wasnât right. âAnd whatever you choose, I have your back,â he promised the werewolf with a genuine smile.Â
The more they spoke of Peter, the more Scott felt his stomach collapse into itself. He couldnât help it. Peter had come through in the end, and for what Scott understood, he was trying to be there for Malia⌠And then he left. Now he was back and throwing compliments behind his back and then showed up with Malia for the rescuing of their packmates and Henrik? What had happened to Peter Hale while heâd been gone? Yet, his hope was quiet⌠Instead, Scott felt suddenly tense.Â

âHe hasnât won that status yet,â Scott said as he raised his chin to look at Alice and Kelsey. âHeâs an Omega of my pack,â he corrected as his arms crossed over his chest. At Aliceâs question, Scott sighed softly. âI didnât even know he was back in town till we went to get you all,â he admitted with shame. âIâll speak to him,â he added quickly, looking into Aliceâs gaze, knowing it would probably not stop her from giving him a piece of her mind anyways⌠She was rather protective of Kelsey, after all. âHe wouldnât had harmed you,â Scott told Kelsey, but deep down insideâŚ. Scott wasnât too sure if he was telling the truthâthe same feeling he had around Theo. âHe was most likely trying to do me a favor to win graces.âÂ

Kelsey watched the two elders go back and forth, wincing at the words. Sheâd only been here with Alice for less than five minutes and she was causing problems. She placed her hand on the vampireâs arm, tugging her attention over to her. âItâs fine, Alice. I promise. He wasnât mean or scary or anything. He was just... new. I didnât expect anyone else besides Scott or Derek so my wolf freaked a little. Please donât be mad at Scott, he didnât know either.â
She turned back to Scott then, smiling. âWell, he brought me water and told me what was going on so, I guess he did alright. I was okay last night, thanks to you and Alice making sure I had somewhere I could turn without fear. So thanks, both of you. Everything may be kind of super crappy right now but last night...I didnât think iâd make it through a moon here in Beacon Hills. So that alone was enough.âÂ
Her words took a turn though, glancing between them once more. âI do want to know everything though. No kiddie gloves, no hiding for my benefit. What-- what happened? I know youâre okay now but for a while it really didnât sound like you would be.â I thought you were gone, youâd never be back. Please tell me how wrong I was. @alicezhouâ
