“TIME TRAVELLER” is a remarkable new collection of 16 epic original songs dramatically performed and written by Memphis born, pianist/multi-instrumentalist, singer-songwriter, arranger, and UK based Jerry Hull. “TIME TRAVELLER” as with all of Jerry’s albums, delivers up-front genuinely and comes across forthright with heartfelt integrity. It also promises unforgettably adventuress tastes for nearly everyone and promises a most pleasurable experience of musical quality and an undeniable resonance.

KINGSTON UPON HULL UK 17, Dec, 2021: JERRY HULL, illustrious singer-songwriter, pianist now releases his follow up to “They’re Looking For Me” (released just a year ago) with the freshly produced “TIME TRAVELLER”. This is a collection of impressionable song-writing containing experiential and dramatically creative story-telling all set to a clever backdrop of intricate arrangement and instrumentation accompanied by soaring emotionally charged vocals both in thematic raw and energetic nitty gritty bluesy or rock and roll moments as well as soft Bacharach style sentimentally felt smooth jazz and pop moments supported by orchestral ensembles.

Although primarily a pop rock set of songs, “TIME TRAVELLER” is an intentionally designed concept storyline fortuitously sung and arranged with a Broadway musical style and feel, with an intentional pop rock sound. Each of the sixteen songs on the album revolve around a central theme and backdrop story with each representing all the different experiences along his travels. Jerry portrays various personas, one in each song, either as the central character, “an eccentric Victorian gentleman travelling through eras in his time machine struggling through the ages to reunite with the love of his life” or otherwise one who lends to the storyline of each song individually. This main character of the title track, an early 1900’s scientific inventor, whose picture is on the cover artwork of the album, is a direct influence from Jerry’s admiration of the classic story by H.G. Wells’ “The Time Machine”.

While representing a grand milestone of reaching a 10th studio production, “TIME TRAVELLER” finds Jerry’s creativity bubbling with more passion and introspection than ever before with a drive for manifesting unique and infectious riffs seemingly out of thin air more prominent. With such emphatic songs as, Report Captain Medicine, a Beatle-esque style number which entails the life and times of a civilian British doctor whom joins the war in WW1 serving as surgeon for a specialized unit on the frontline returning to his practice in the famous Harley Street in London, Tomahawk Wild, an Americana drama tribute to the Cheyenne and Arapaho people in south-eastern Colorado Territory who were slaughtered in the Sandcreek Massacre of 1864, and City Man, where Jerry tells his experience being part of the stressful and abusive life portrayed in the co called U.S. corporate work-force of the excessive 1980’s set to rock and roll, it’s not surprising how one could be so emersed in endless entertainment and slightly overwhelmed with and spoilt with variety, but Jerry Hull would not have it any other way.

“TIME TRAVELLER” continues onward pit stopping at each experience along the way in songs of various colour and emotion knowing no bounds or limits whist transporting your mind and soul through the magic of time travel. From the 70s Bacharach style of Can’t Stop Falling In Love, to the pop rock, Pour A Little Sugar, whose tale takes you to the wild west as Jerry walks into a tent where a woman evangelist preaches rules of do’s and don’ts catches his eye winding up in a torrid love affair of moral decadence and religious abandonment, Jerry’s love for contrast never ends. Next you are suddenly transported to 1929 in Memphis, where Jerry meets Machine Gun Sally, (a funky blues rock number) whose story begins with a rough and tough Tommy-gun toting black woman from the wrong side of the tracks only to again change course to 1960’s California, where Jerry meets a hippy girl along the beach from Ojai in the pop rock romper called Lady Love.

Finally, you are brought to the end of this musical journey with a charming and enchanting orchestral piece, Soldier’s Homecoming Of 1918. This very heartfelt masterpiece is poignant, yet charming and then again, gut wrenching. Evoking the sights and sounds of what horrors, utter relief, and return home could only be imagined by what was experienced by the brave men and women in the British armed forces of the first World War who lived miraculously and perished sadly, this musical needs no words.   

“TIME TRAVELLER” certainly is not limited in just one direction and provides a variety of musical styles and engaging stories of old, new, true, and fable. Jerry uses a broad selection and combination of various styles and genres such as: Americana, soul, gospel, pop, rock, blues, jazz, boogie-woogie, ragtime, the Memphis sound, British invasion, 60’s & 70’s pop-rock, orchestral arrangements, heartfelt ballads, story-telling, and dramatic Broadway/West End style production.
