Rolf married Luna Lovegood, a fellow naturalist. According to Rita Skeeter, (a dubious source) he had an unforgettably shocked expression when he saw Luna’s wedding dress, made of rainbows, spangles and a tiara of silver unicorn horns, which was voted ‘Most Hideous Outfit of the Year’ by readers of Skeeter’s regular Daily Prophet column. ‘KUBO’ FLOPS AT BOX OFFICE, SOARS WITH CRITICS

Kubo and the Two Strings was off to a good start when the reviews began to pour in. The stop motion feature achieved a solid 96% on Rotten Tomatoes, becoming one of the best reviews animated films on the site, and beating out all the other films from the studio so far. It achieved a rating of “universal acclaim” on MetaCritic, and just below a 9/10 IMDB score. People had a lot of good things to say. The box office numbers, however, weren’t as stellar.

‘Kubo’ had the worst opening of any Laika film so far, pulling a little over 12 million over the weekend. It came in fourth place, with DC movie Suicide Squad getting its third week at first place. Seth Rogen’s R-rated animated venture, Sausage Party, made 15 million over the weekend in its second week, hopping two spots ahead of Kubo. 

‘Kubo’ tells the story of a young Japanese boy at odds with his grandfather, the unfeeling Moon King, and trying to learn about his warrior father, Hanzo. The film pushed the studio. Among their efforts included simulating a woman dragging herself in the sand, and building a nearly 20-foot-tall stop motion puppet for just one scene. 

But, Laika’s not exactly in this for the money. None of the studio’s releases have been major animated blockbusters in the way that Disney and Dreamworks have. The studio has yet to win a Best Animated Feature oscar–something that there has been buzz about since Kubo’s release. But, in a summer noted for its underperforming films from all genres and studios, Kubo’s numbers aren’t entirely surprising.

What remains, however, is a film that has been referred to by many as a masterpiece.

Pleaaase go see Kubo. It’s incredibly beautiful and good and very very touching. I think there was only about a 20-minute span where I was NOT crying. Very emotionally charged. Very good.

People. I saw Kubo last night and I’m STILL reeling from the STORY and the CHARACTERS and HOLY SHIT THE SUBPLOTS!!!!!!

And like… it’s just so GOOD.  It deals with mental illness, duty to parents, trying to heal from the loss of a loved one, the value of memories, the choice of violence or mercy… AND IT IS A HUGE LOVE NOTE TO STORYTELLERS EVERYWHERE! 

ugh. 

I had tears in my eyes 3 separate times, and was completely transfixed the entire film. 

Like, yes, the art is beautiful and stop-motion is always impressive in the sheer work put into it, but THE STORY it tells! <3 <3 <3 The world it builds and the characters that walk within are so lovingly crafted and genuine….

10/10 ABSOLUTELY RECOMMEND.

Rihanna, Anne Hathaway, Awkwafina to join all-female ‘Ocean’s Eleven’

Seven out of the needed-eight women are reportedly signed up to join the all-female cast of Ocean’s Ocho, the spinoff of Steven Soderbergh’s Ocean movies. According to Deadline, Rihanna, Anne Hathaway, Helena Bonham Carter, Mindy Kaling, and rapper/YouTube star Awkwafina are set to join the stars of the film, Sandra Bullock and Cate Blanchett.  The movie will be directed by Gary Ross, known for The Hunger Games, and produced by Ocean’s Eleven director Steven Soderbergh.“I think it’s a pretty similar tone,” Ross told Slashfilm about the upcoming movie in June. “This is very much an extension and a continuation… I’m in no way trying to reinvent the tone, and I’m thrilled and honoured to be extending it. It’s really fun to work with.”

One lead actor has yet to be cast, but here’s who many reports are naming as the frontrunner.

I'm pro-life. And I'm voting for Hillary. Here's why.

I’m pro-life. Because I’m pro-life, I won’t vote for Donald Trump. Instead, I’m planning to vote for Hillary. To many of my fellow pro-lifers, this seems confusing and inconsistent. I understand that. Hillary firmly believes women should have the right to abortion. In the earliest days of my blogging, I wrote that if I were to be a single issue voter, abortion would be that issue for me. So what’s changed? Nothing. Well, nothing in my stance toward abortion. I’m still opposed to it. But since Roe v. Wade, most Republicans have talked a lot about abortion while doing little to make meaningful change in that area of policy. Furthermore, they’ve opposed or even stalled measures that could prevent abortions by targeting the underlying causes, like poverty, education, lack of access to healthcare, and supports for single parent and low-income families. In fact, I suspect these reasons contribute to why abortion rates rose under Reagan, rose under the first Bush, dropped under Clinton, held steady under the second Bush, and have been dropping under Obama. As such, I’m not sure we can hold that voting Republican is the best thing for abortion rates in this country. That’s my nutshell answer, but I think this topic deserves a more detailed analysis. If you just want the summary, feel free to stop here. If you press on, please trust that I did my best to edit down my thoughts but you’ll still be wading through a few thousand words. I wanted to offer a comprehensive, thoughtful, and well-researched presentation of my stance, and I’ve never been one for brevity. So buckle up, y’all. We’re in for a ride…
