Here is the new number line I put together for my classroom. I have been unsatisfied with number lines that attempt to show even and odd numbers, as well as counting by threes fives and tens graphically.

An equilateral polygon is assigned to each prime and dots are placed at each corner (5 dots in the shape of a pentagon to represent the number 5). Numbers with factors are represented by radially orienting the composite polygons (15=5x3 or three pentagons forming a triangle). I attempted to emphasize exponents and smaller primes because they are easier to distinguish than larger primes. The line creates repeating patterns like fractals and tilings.

I was able to draw up a mold for the series last night. I hope to 3d print molds built from these forms and grow saplings on them. Hopefully the saplings' roots will occupy the framework. Ideally at the end of the summer I can simultaneously kiln dry the plants' roots and melt off the mold. Thereby growing an ultralight wooden structure.

Bird Bone Honeycomb

This is the third iteration of a 1/3 ratio self-similar alternated cubic honeycomb. This form is inspired by bird bone. The space between the beams on the inside is exponentially larger than the space between the beams on the outside. The cuboctahedron, shown above, is one of many shapes I hope to make with this space-filling tiling.

I finished the assembly in Autodesk Inventor earlier today. I hoped to get a 3d print out this evening. However, the design did not translate well to the printer (I think the tool path was too complex). Perhaps I'll have better luck printing the constituent parts next week.

Today I was finally able to render part of the series in Autodesk. This is the 4th iteration of the pyramid aspect of the series. I hope to crank out the 3rd iteration of both the pyramid and the tetrahedron tomorrow.

I found a youtube video describing a traditional thai palm leaf ball. I reworked the concept to weave 12 strands. I was a more complicated, but it yielded a tighter construction. I think the color coding helps too.
