By all means plz talk to me about jetaang. I have many aang ships but jetaang is one that I just legit consider to be lowkey canon. Aang was just unquestionably exactly as caught up with Jet as Katara was, and while I think Jet doesn't show as much sign, it is Aang and Katara who convince Jet to change, and it is Aang he wants to help, and it is Aang who believes in him unfailingly, even after him nearly flooding a town and slamming Aang into a tree, and even after Jet was brainwashed and attacked him. Aang has always believed in Jet and I just need that to be acknowledged. If Jet had survived, you cannot tell me he would not be lowkey competing with Katara and Zuko for "#1 Avatar Fan"

Like c'mon man, your crush's boyfriend compliments her, and what's your first reaction? Pout that he didn't compliment you too. Honestly that scene was what made me ship the ship. IT'S JUST TOO CUTE !!! Though I'm not so sure about the Jet competing with Zuko and Katara part. I don't really see Jet as the type for being jealous or caring about these things much. “Watch me,” he said, like it was a challenge. Like it was something Jet wasn’t already doing. Like was something Jet wouldn’t otherwise do. And he did, no further incentive needed than an understanding of how beautiful it was to watch someone capture freedom the way he’d spent so long dreaming of.
He three himself off the edge of the wooded landing and Jet’s heart stalled at the sight of him disappearing then started again twice as fast when Aang‘s glider flapped open, he lifted up, and flew.
Aang alone is an especially captivating person, nevermind everything else about him. Nevermind what he can do.
The sight of him took Jet by surprise even though he’d known what to expect. The knowledge of who Aang was and what he was capable of seemed nearly irrelevant. The truth of it having yet to fully sink into his bones. The reality of how real Aang was filling him with amazement over and over. Aang the Avatar. Aang the airbender.
Aang the embodiment of freedom in all ways. In the horrible ugliness and incredible bliss of it. He was free and Jet felt so much jealousy because he himself could only claim a fraction of it and the desire to claim more was as overwhelming as the wave he wished to flood the village with.
Leaves are rustled by Aang’s presence in the air, so much like a bird in his graceful movements.
A terrible urge to yank Aang out of the sky flickered between his fingers while his hands gripped at nothing. He wanted to claim it, claim him. Claim the freedom which Aang bent to his own will.
He wanted to be bent too. Be used in those hands, be purposeful the way the wind which carried Aang through the trees and helped him streak across the sky was. To be capable of painting his face with flush the way giggling through the sky did. To be capable of bringing him pleasure and fulfilling his soul.
But he couldn’t be.
Aang was not like him and he not like Aang. Their ideas of the world conflicted, allowed only for that moment. That moment wherein Aang challenged him to watch as he flew through the trees without the ropes and machinations Jet used. But with wings and power of which came naturally threaded into his skin and muscle.
When he did eventually pull Aang from the sky it wasn’t for the reason he’d desired to do so before. Instead of hugging the younger one to his chest the way he’d wanted to previously he threw him into the dirt. So the roots of the trees could embrace him. The flat of the earth could steal his breath. There had been a sort of irony in that. In seeking to rob Aang of the very thing Jet wanted to embrace him for.
The image of Aang on the ground struggling to breathe let alone stand stayed with Jet long after Katara stepped between them. Long after Aang recaptured the air and quietly expressed hope that Sokka could manage to undo everything Jet had planned. Long after Sokka proved the Avatar’s trust in him worth something.
Long after his family split apart and he was left with only two of the giant group of orphans he’d brought together.
He considers that specific moment of longing for Aang as he lays underground. Layers and layers of earth blocking his view of the sky. View of the surface that he’d watched Aang capture all those weeks ago. No— not capture. Aang had never wished to conquer anything the way Jet had.
Aang simply enjoyed it.
He was free and he always chose to indulge the beauty of such a thing instead of sink into the ugliness that was inherent to having a choice the way Jet had.
He hadn’t seen it then, how being capable of choosing to do right by the freedom fighters, by his family was a freedom too. That many, in villages conquered and turned into slave towns or colonized, didn’t have that. Could’ve benefitted from his freedom fighters actually fighting to gain freedom for the living.
Perhaps it wasn’t as vast as the sky nor as pretty as Aang’s grey eyes. But it didn’t have to be lost. It didn’t have to be incapable of growing. He didn’t have to be incapable of growing.
Turning his head slightly, he watches Aang watch him. Feels like the tables have turned and the one threatening to fly away is himself and now Aang is the one wishing to capture but incapable of grasping anything. Jet can see the desire, recognizes it because he himself still feels it. Even here. Even now he wishes he could claim Aang. The person. The heart. Not to own but to love. To protect.
But he can’t. Can feel it in the way his breaths shallow and his heart strains to beat.
So instead he tells Aang he’ll be fine. Watches Aang watch him. Watches the doubt on his face as he speaks a lie. Not the first he’d told Aang, but certainly the last. Aang knows as much and the look of pain it causes him fills Jet with something light. A little like air. Akin to happiness.
The Avatar will remember him. There’s comfort in knowing that even if there is so little of it in anything else he’d done with his life. He regrets his failings to Smellerbee and Longshot the most.
Jet wonders for a second what might have happened if he’d kissed Aang like he’d wanted to that day instead of betray his trust. If he’d hugged him to his chest and taken a place in Aang’s life at his side. If there’s a version of his life where he made those decisions. If it changed this ending. If it made them both happy and by extension, Smellerbee and Longshot too.
These ponderings don't last, but watching Aang does. He doesn’t hear Smellerbee crying or the quickened breaths coming from Longshot. All he sees is Aang, grey eyes glinting with grief in the low light.
“Watch me,” he’d said. And that’s exactly what Jet does.
Amy. ILU, but Jet wanted to kill innocent people and he wanted to use Katara to do so. You have been amazing with Katara-centric headcanons about why killing Yon Rha would have been horrible for her, and yet you ship a guy who was going to turn her into a WMD with Aang?

thirdly (lmao im really making a list here like an old lady 😂), it's just a fanon ship! like zukaang, like azulaang, like mailee, like maikka, etc. arguably, some of those pairings are "worse" than jetaang (i mean, zuko tried to kill aang, and azula did kill him rip), but i've never heard such anger towards them through my blog. is it something about jet that's different? (if so, perhaps consider what.) again, totally okay if he squicks you - you are more than welcome to unfollow/block the tag/etc. nonetheless, maybe consider why you feel such strong opposition to jetaang but not zukaang or azulaang. alternatively, if you're squicked by all three, remember this: it's fanon! i ship jetaang in a fanon context. i ship jetaang following forgiveness and a redemption, as a matter of fact continuing the redemption developed for him in ba sing se. and if there's anyone who believes in second chances and redemption and forgiveness and love for those who have fucked up in the past... isn't it aang?
Jet decides to go to the store, because Sokka and Zuko have been frequenting the place. He meets Aang and in order not to look suspicious because of his nerves, he asks him to make a piercing in his mouth.
Aang sets things up, holds Jet's chin firmly, and even runs a thumb across his lower lip to find where to pierce.

For this one, I gotta say my Jetaang fic I wrote for ARW. Reading it back now I realized I did not include as much of Aang as I thought I did. In my head I built up this whole relationship and eventual romance for him and Jet, and now going back and reading it, I thought, "This is definitely just a Jet lives!character-study with a smidge of Aang being his wonderful, wise self" and I didn't actually write in any of the romance lol. So in the spirit of the event, I wish I had focused on that more, even if I am generally pleased with the result.
As for my other fics? Does deleting them so no one can perceive them count as a major change? haha

He never thought to meet the legend, he was not a powerful figure or full of wisdom as he thought; he was a child, he was a child younger than him. “Breathe.” he says and Jet tries, tries against the sensation of his ribs constricting. Pushes himself to fill his lungs despite the way his windpipe seems to close against his will.
“Breathe.”
The word is so soft, spoken so kindly, a gentle directory and yet Jet can’t seem to do it. And he wants to — more than anything he wants to do as the voice instructs. But his body fights the simple gesture of filling his lungs with air and so too does a part of his soul.
This part doesn’t wish to linger, to hurt people anymore. To hurt the owner of that voice anymore.
This part of him doesn’t want to face his mistakes, to continue living with the burden of failure upon failure laid over his shoulders like layers of bedrock. The ache of which he doesn’t feel in this place before the spirit world.
“Breathe.”
So much of him wants to fulfill this request but at what cost?
“Jet, breathe.”

Hello! I'm actually one of the "wanted to read zutara but couldn't bc anti Aang" and I was a little disspointed when no one rose to suggest any safe ones, but I just stumbled across one! I was actually looking for jetaang, but found this fic and it's very cute. It's kinda silly and exaggerated, but I thought it was cute. It is a little anti-Jet at first, heads up, but then he has a talk about why he's being like that and it's actually kinda nice. Also, Aang being a good friend!
And, of course, the highlight is Zuko being a father to a baby dragon and Katara being deermined to protect both him and the dragon from the world (read as: mild teasing nsndksnd)
Zukaang and jetaang going hand in hand makes me laugh because they're both just Aang being betrayed by the bad boy figure only to turn around and almost immediately accept them into the team because they were hot because they were sorry
Aang is great because almost every ship you can put him in instantly becomes top-tier.
Like:
Kataang- they literally make me cry every single time I think of them. Their love story is wonderful and genuinely heartwarming. It symbolises healing and peace for both of them and the literal world. He showed her the world and he's her biggest supporter and she always defends him and they find solace in each other because they understand what it's like to be the last of their respective kind. And they're each other's hope and just... ahhh. They're so much more than the vanilla hero gets the girl ship people paint it as. Haters stay mad or smth.
Zukaang- the symbolism? They're the actual Ying and Yang of the show! The Rozin parallels? Them standing in a vortex of rainbow fire as two dragons (the blue one like Aang's tatoos facing zuko and the other one, red like Zuko's general colour scheme facing Aang) forming a heart shape around them? Zuko was literally searching for Aang and found his redemption in Aang and Aang made him a better person and Aang is literally the only person who genuinely experienced Fire Nation culture before the war and he clearly values it and he's helping Zuko bring peace to the world and the nation...
Taang- The og tomboy x soft boy dynamic. He's literally the person that helped her free herself from her parents and Air is the element of freedom? And she teaches him when to stand firm like the Earth? And I love when they do synchronised earthbending it's so satisfying and they work so well together. Toph having lost her face in one of Aang's nightmares is also a nice parallel to Ummi and Kuruk. (One caveat though: i hate taang being used as a "get Aang out of the way" side ship to Zutara)
Sokaang- they kinda come out of left field for me but the more I think about them the more obsessed I become. It's all about a teenage boy who has been forced into a role that demanded way too much of him finally learning to trust and rely on others. It's about Sokka finally living out the childhood that he was forced to grow out of. Sokka also has such a cute bond with Momo and more importantly, Appa, Aang's animal soulmate. The fics write themselves.
Sukaang- ok, I know Suki and Aang barely interacted in the show but like Hear me out.Suki is so connected to one of Aang's past lives. And she saved Appa, which would totally bond her and Aang (genuinely distressed that this was never discussed in canon). And they both value a sense of community so much, and Aang was one of the people who inspired Suki to leave Kyoshi to help others. Plus, there could be some amazing Rangshi parallels if Suki became Aang's bodyguard instead of Zuko's, which could be very plausible.
Azulaang- I adore this ship because I genuinely think Aang could really help Azula find her redemption. Hell, he was so nice to her in The Search and she literally killed him. Plus I've already laughed about how it would absolutely kill Ozai. The mental crisis Azula would go through due to fallingin love with Aang would be hilarious, and also the guilt over everything she's done, as Aang's kindness makes her realsie she was on the wrong side this whole time. He's one of the only people who can beat her at her prime and he doesn't seem to fear her at all, which is rare for her. Aang could give her the unconditional love she so desperately craves and needs.
Maiaang- genuinely adorable to me. Other than the obvious grumpy x sunshine trope, Maiaang has a lot of potential. Mai seems to genuinely like Aang in the comics, which is really cute. I also think Aang would be able to help Mai express her more positive emotions, other than just anger. Also something about the girl who was forced to remain silent and passive her whole life learning to finally let go and allow herself to just live with the help of probably one of the most active and expressive characters of the show has me by the throat. Plus, he got along great with her lil bro!
Tyaang- They're so similar and cute and bubbly! They'd have tons of fun together and I just know Ty Lee would teach Aang some gymnastics and he really enjoy it! I think he can also find Ty Lee's chiblocking very cool, since it is essentially a great way to deal with a conflict without causing permanent damage. Very airbendery. Speaking of which, Ty Lee is also very airbendry herself. I can genuinely see her finding herself in Air Nomad culture and be excited to help revive it.
Onjaang- i just find this ship so funny because imagine being a random schoolgirl in the fire nation and not only rizzing up a demigod but rizzing that demigod up successfully. This ship can also go so many ways depending on On Ji's reaction to that random cute guy who threw a cool dance party is actually the Avatar, so it's certainly interesting.
Yuaang- the ultimate cinnamon roll x cinnamon roll ship. But more than that, there's of course the Yue becoming the Moon Spirit and Aang getting lowkey possessed by the grieving Ocean Spirit. There's Yue appearing when Aang needed her most, while he's stranded in the middle of the ocean and helping him. They both understand sacrifice and responsibility, and maybe they could comfort each other through it. Also Aang being the bridge between the spirit worlds and Yue being a Spirit could lead to a very interesting romance, depending on how much the Avatar could interact with the Moon Spirit.
Jetaang- ok, Aang was just as infatuated with Jet as Katara was, right? And I think Aang was heavily affected by Jet's actions and behaviour. Also Aang really not wanting to hurt Jet while fighting him (twice!) was really cute. And Aang helping Jet snap out of the Dai Li brainwashing could be a really cool ship moment the more you think anout it.
Teoaang- Honestly their little one sided rivalry at the beginning of the episode was really cute. And I think there could be some interesting symbolism between them. Aang symbolising the old and Teo symbolising the new. They compliment each other like that. Teo comforting Aang by showing him that the critters of the temple are still alive and well is also sweet. And Aang admitting that Teo has the spirit of an airbender is so sweet.
Kuzaang- they're adorable. I loved the comic about them. Aang calling Kuzon "Hotman" is really funny. Aang helping Kuzon make a bigger flame with airbending is also really sweet. I especially like this ship in combination with Zukaang. It's such tasty symbolism.
Aang may just be the most shippable charater of this franchise, argue with the wall. He's so filled with love I have no choice but to multiship.

Thinking abt Jetaang and, the funniest thing for me, is that my otp is, obvs, zukaang, and I've always liked the meme that Jet and Zuko were totally a thing.
If you take all this together Zuko and Katara have the same taste in men. And that makes me cackle.
And then, and then, if, after all that, Jet and Aang end up together, it's like the perfect romcom. Add in zutara and it's opera.
