Something something Keeley doesn’t ask how the match went, she asks him how he’s doing, and all Jamie can do is rapid fire list off his stats in the game. It comes across as arrogance, showing off a little about his performance to try and get back in her bed. But it’s actually a sign of how poorly he’s doing in Manchester, because the sliding scale of his well-being has become entirely dependent on how many minutes he’s getting and how well he plays during those minutes. You know. Something something.

Dani: Awww…

*Meanwhile, in the coaches office*

Roy: And then I kissed him.

Roy: Yeah.

Trent: Cool.

back here again and i have So Many Thoughts

a lot of jamie's problems come from the fact that he's like. terrified of showing any kind of weakness or vulnerability, because his father has hammered it into him that being "soft" is unacceptable. as he says himself, he's made a vow to be so tough that he can't ever be called soft again.

but then ted comes to richmond and pretty much flips all jamie's ever known upside down. ted openly encourages vulnerability and showing that "weakness" (even though ted might not practise it himself), and he doesn't let jamie off the hook when he acts up — and jamie can't handle that. he hates that ted expects him to show the kind of "softness" that he's spent so long trying to unlearn, because for jamie being vulnerable has never ended well......... so naturally he takes that out on ted and acts like an even bigger asshole.

it's not until two aces that we (and ted) actually get to See jamie's walls come down. his monologue at the curse fire is the first time he's truly allowed himself to open up in what has probably been a very long time, and the next day he immediately gets sent back to man city seemingly out of nowhere. which obviously does a number on him bc it's the first time jamie has actually trusted somebody enough to let his guard down and then he's just . sent away as a result of being vulnerable (and he never gets to believe anything otherwise because nobody ever told him it was rebecca who engineered his recall!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

this is where all the "Fucking Mind Games" shit comes in too. jamie thinks that he was sent away Because he was vulnerable, so he puts that wall right back up and thinks ted is gaslighting / mocking him when in reality, ted truly does want to help him!!!! and this distrust of ted because of the recall gets even worse when jamie is abused by his father after deciding to trust ted one more time and make the extra pass. to jamie trusting ted will only ever get him hurt, and THEN when ted walks past the window and sees james tartt hitting jamie, he makes eye contact with jamie and fucking walks away. in hindsight we know this is because of ted's trauma with his own dad and has nothing to do with jamie, but for jamie it's yet another instance of somebody he trusted and looked up to abandoning him which makes me feel so insane and ill

i also think about this particular shot a lot bc........ jamie is at such a low point in his life that he looks to ted for help, despite that deep-seated belief that trusting ted has only ever gotten him hurt. he STILL trusts ted, even despite all the misunderstandings, because deep down he sees ted as another father figure that also abandoned him. but what makes this shot so crazy to me is that The Dartboard is in the background. the same dartboard that ted uses to win at darts against rupert while talking about his own father. and to me the fact that the dartboard in the background kind of makes me wonder if ted feels like he failed jamie, the same way that he feels his own father abandoned him. yeah . almost all of ted's panic attacks in the show are triggered by either jamie or henry (sometimes both) and to me it seems like ted thinks he failed them both as a father (he very much did not but again!!!! miscommunication!!!!!)

anyway i'm feeling very insane about tedjamie as a father-son dynamic and what it could have been if somebody Told jamie that ted never wanted to get rid of him
