I
forever feels weird to me to be depressed and for it not to be like, soul crushing misery, but just a perpetual feeling of dullness. i spent years at school being so terribly upset on a regular basis because of bullying and other stuff and just hating specifically that, but not hating life, and then years later i don’t have any of those issues to deal with and problems are much less intense but more generally soul destroying, and so i end up just feeling a general sense of resignation at best, having to accept that things are just shit and will always be shit, that if i let myself explore fully leads into a resignation that the best solution to things is just to not be around any more. and it’s such a disappointingly un-dramatic feeling. i don’t know if that really makes sense, but it just feels so stupid to want to be dead not in the sense of wanting to hurt myself, or crying and sobbing and wallowing in deep misery but just sort of looking ahead and thinking “oh yeah, living to 40 sounds impossible, why would i want to do that? another decade of this? i just cannot imagine it”, and then finding myself just sort of passively knowing i will at some point end my life. and i found this list i made when i was 16 of all the things i wanted to do with my life, like not even big aspirations and grand plans but just little things i figured at some point in the future would be fun and then i look at that now and can’t understand any more what it was like to be a version of myself that was capable of thinking that way, and simultaneously feeling like i in some way let my younger self down, but also feeling like my younger self was just naive to the world and had an optimism that’s maybe only possible for a teenager. maybe there’s just something inside other people that lets them exist in the world that’s missing from me, like i so often think that there’s something other people have that let’s them function as a social being that i just never had, because i know other people don’t feel this way all the time. but i lately feel like every close relationship i’ve ever had has ended for the simple reason that i am just not equipped for life, and i both expect too much and too little of people around me, and like many things in life i can never find a balance and can never be just functional in any real way. there’s just a limit to how much longer i can coast by feeling so disappointed by everything and everyone and by myself too, before i think i just have to accept that i am just not made for life and give myself the peace of just letting it end
i always love when a horror movie is like ohh we are a group of people from various backgrounds stuck together in this motel/gas station/roadside diner/grocery store/shopping mall/warehouse/underground bunker/fallout shelter/research facility/military compound/prison/police station/office building/apartment building/school/hospital/church/bar/music club/amusement park/resort/boat of some kind. the baddies are coming. quick! let us organize into some sort of social commentary
words cannot describe the relief of going to pay my taxes for the year terrifed i'm about to drain my bank account to pay them, and realising i overpaid ahead so much last time that they actually owe me money now 😭
just hosted a dinner party for friends, and it was a very very fun night, great time had by all i’d say given no one made a move to leave until 2am… but also i’ve never cooked that much food for people who didn’t show any enthusiasm for it - like that was a three course italian meal, and served family style with so many options, everything cooked totally from scratch, and not once did anyone actually seem particularly enthused about food that took days to prepare. and then one of my friends who brought a bottle of wine as a gift took it back home after no one touched it (i had plenty of wine on offer so no one’s instinct was to drink the room temp rose they bought), but it’s such a shame when i just feel like I put a crazy amount of effort and money into a meal to treat friends and it went totally unappreciated
i don’t want to blame everyone else, maybe i just disappointed with the cooking. might have just seemed more impressive as a menu plan than it turned out to be. but i spent more on one meal than i do on multiple weeks worth of food for myself, spent several days prepping and cooking food, and then it just didn’t live up to what i thought it would be. i just love my friends and really wanted to cook a meal that would be restaurant quality and they’d love, and feel like i managed to miss the mark so badly i just feel like if we’d ordered takeout pizza the evening would have gone better
anyway this was the menu, sounds more impressive here than it turned out i guess

Hot take: I don't care if someone "contributes to society" or not. They are a person and still deserve human rights, food, and shelter.

feel like my life is just increasingly going to shit… income going down and rent going up meaning i soon won’t be able to afford to keep living alone, fallen out with my former best friend and now barely talk, can’t even visit parents any more without my dad starting some argument, savings dwindling and most of my time spent just lying around depressed and miserable,
just saw a sign on the side of the road that said “you misunderstood: bring back my lawnmower” that six word story goes crazy
"the best way to screw jkr over is by making her characters queer!" actually. The best way to screw jkr over is to stop engaging with the property she still profits off of and read a different fucking book
Bacteria do have souls, but binary fission doesn’t produce new souls 99% of the time, so most single celled organisms share these sprawling souls that just get bigger every time they divide. Over time they compact down into these big mats of soul get compacted into geological layers that gradually accrete to the world soul. Sexual reproduction creates new souls but they’re much shorter lived as a result, and rarely make it into the bedrock, so most of the world spirit is from the Proterozoic.
but do viruses have souls?
No. Some people think that this is because viruses have no metabolism and can’t reproduce on their own, and therefore do not qualify as life. In fact it is just because they are too small. Pneumatons, the constituent particle of soul, have a wavelength of about 1 micrometer, and so can’t be contained in cell membranes or protein envelopes smaller than that. This also means the smallest bacteria also don’t have souls. This includes mitochondria and their immediate ancestors, which was a major impetus for their symbiosis with eukaryotes in the first place. The eukaryote cell got a source of energy, and in return the mitochondria finally got to directly apprehend a portion of divine eternity.
this is super useful information, thank you!
