Ex-governor Rick Perry (R-Texas) has just been named the Energy Secretary. Perry is on the board of the company that is spearheading the Dakota Access Pipeline. Our current government may have stopped the building of the pipeline for now, but come January, that could all change.Â

Cayce and I are moving to California at the end of the month. With our moving truck booked and some solid leads on getting on our feet there, weâre starting to feel the reality of our impending move. Some of the items on our Utah bucket list will have to wait until we come back to visit (which we will, often).
Cayce has yet to catch a fish on her fly rod. I have yet to visit Bryce Canyon. My pickup truck is still yearning to know more of the red rock desert wilderness.
Utah is a place to get lost in. Soon, California.

Digging through archives as I prep my book for NY. Somehow I missed this one. I sold this camera today. Nostalgia emerges.
Hit me up if youâre in NYC and want to meet up. Iâll be in town September 14-21.

US olympic runners Galen Rupp and Matt Centrowitz training for Runnerâs World. Rupp won a bronze medal in the Marathon, even though it was his second marathon ever and Matt is the first US runner to win the 1500 in over 100 years. It was brutally hot on the track the day we photographed them as they did speed work. Yuck.
I ran alongside Mike as he was shooting this. The monolight on a monopod that I was carrying fell apart from the bouncing of our feet hitting the ground trying to keep up with Rupp. Seriously intense runners, these guys are.Â
IÂ donât know how Mike ran a mile keeping up with him, but I certainly couldnât have in that 100+ heat.

Some bay-porn. Makes me excited for the move Cayce and I have been planning for 2017.
Newsweek:Â SEEKING RADIO SILENCE IN WEST VIRGINIAâS QUIET ZONE
It was quite a pleasant surprise when Jared, whom I had met at the Newsweek offices last year, emailed me about featuring some of the work I had shown him on Quiet! He mentioned that my the book for it had sat on his desk ever since and that he had looked at it often.
Very happy to see this work go up somewhere (at the link above), and to see the nuance of the long form article that some of the photos also went with, out on newsstands next week. You can see Chris Stokel-Walkerâs article here now.
