There are many reasons I think strong women can be intimidating. I think it’s even more rare to show the complexities and vulnerabilities of women that are initially perceived as strong. And it’s kind of lovely to play someone like Peggy who tries to explore that in a still very male dominated world.

“We like to go out and go dancing. Other times, we like to sit at home and eat Thai food and watch House Hunters International for four hours,” she says. “And we’re interested in each other’s worlds. He’s interested in my weird, alien entertainment world. It fascinates him because it’s so different than what he knows. And I like to go to art openings with him and talk about art and emerging artists with him. That’s his passion.” – Scarlett Johansson

It’s clear that there are a lot of elements of masculinity that go farther than just being an emotionless and aggressive macho. For me, it has to do with the confidence to be who you are. Once you start acting in a way you think others will respect, that is when your essence and honesty are in doubt. Obviously, we have evolved as a race. There is more equality between the genders and everybody understands that masculinity does not only belong to men or femininity only belongs to women. Do you think what I am saying makes sense? Do you see? I am not confident. I am not macho enough? (laughs)
I fell asleep [on a flight], and when I woke up the man next to me asked, “Excuse me, are you someone important? I’m asking because the stewardesses came over and were watching you sleep.”
