intruder! || ki-ja & jae-ha
Kija’s attempts were futile; after picking out the shells from one, he attempted yet another, only to achieve the same result. Again, and again. There were so many shattered shells, one couldn’t tell where each belonged, or just how many had been broken any more. Frustration steadily became apparent in the form of complete fluster. His inadequacy to assist was tormenting him, but he wouldn’t waste this opportunity to prove himself.
Though, lost in those thoughts; it wasn’t until Jae-ha’s hand reach past him that he noticed the other man had realised what was happening over on the other side of the kitchen. His eyes widened a little as the other offered advice and demonstrated casually—expertly, even. It only served to make Kija feel even less competent; he was so confident he could at least do this without help, it really can’t be that hard if done so easily. Technique… clearly Kija didn’t have that.
But he was sincerely grateful the other hadn’t gotten mad; however that was no reason for him to simply disregard his own mistakes.
Glancing down, his head bows slightly. “Sorry for the trouble.” he mumbles, “and, uh, thank you for helping.” he adds, albeit even more sheepishly than the apology. He’d always been told he was rather heavy-handed, despite his delicate looking frame. Then again, it wasn’t as though defending himself was strange; be it because of his slender frame or the hand he kept mostly hidden beneath bandages—though his family and his village had looked after him, there were still many difficulties.
“You’re right.” he laughs a little, “I can make simple meals, usually with rice or noodles… I guess eggs just aren’t really my speciality.” he lets out a long sigh, “I’m sorry for not saying so before; I had thought this a much simpler task in my mind. Even you can make it look so easy.” Kija picks up one of the eggs and cautiously rolls it in his palm—careful not to drop it of course. They’ve clearly used enough, for now. “Next time show me your technique again so I can practice. I’ll be sure to master it eventually!”
Jae-ha blinked, and peered into the other’s face. It wasn’t a bad thing to not be good at cooking, in fact, Jae-ha was more than happy to help out. “Don’t worry about it, Kija. Not everyone is perfect, but you were pretty close ♪.” Seriously, hopefully Kija wasn’t taking it too hard on himself. He took a mental note to further discuss their skills later, but first they still needed to finish making breakfast.
At his words, Jae-ha simply smiled, “Well there you go! Perhaps Lunch will be on you next time then? I’ll be looking forward to your dishes ♪.” That was for another time, though. Hopefully he was being more honest with himself, and to Jae-ha as well. Eggs were probably not going to be handled by Kija any more, so Jae-ha took the bowl, and with a whisk from the drawer, started to mix it thoroughly, adding a bit of cream, and tossing it into the pan, letting out a brief sizzle.
“Aaah... I’ve had a lot of practice, not to mention have been cooking as part of my job as well. Think nothing of it.” He added, starting to tossle the eggs in the pan. But as he did, he kept glancing back at Kija, smiling as he saw the other gently handle the egg, “Oh? I’ll be waiting, then ♥.”
“But first, we should really get to eating, shouldn’t we? Most of the food is already done. Let me finish off the ggs, help yourself to set the table~.” It was nice to have someone around, it made everything less lonely and more productive. “Cups and plates are in that cupboard over there.”
