✦ A Mother's Love...
(art commissions are back open! Have some happy personal news to announce soon)
The fact that the bulk of this conversation is taking place while she's on his lap!!!!
I personally felt like it made sense for Mo Xiuyao to both trust his wife enough to have her treat his legs but also be suspicious of her and betrayed by her arranging her own kidnapping/assassination because he knows she's Chaotic Good but he just didn't calculate the full extent of the chaos
Saw someone complain about the main leads' romance being boring and LET ME TELL you, i want it to be even more boring, both of them have so much shit going on outside and sooooo much plot happening. I am very much happy with them being each other's safe harbor, each other's anchor. In fact I don't want a singular thing to change about the way they are acting towards each other. No fake divorce scare, no Dowager attempting to put in a concubine. Nothing. Let them do this forever. I want the last episode to be just them for 35 minute loungeing together.
I really loved that Mo Xiuyao didn't read the intel on his wife until she talked to a non-existent person right in front of him and then he was like, "Oh this is more serious than I thought"
"I thought it was just quirky"
This is like a take down of the Manic Pixie Dream Girl trope in some ways
BWHAHAHAH I LOVE HER
Bonus, his amused face:
莫离 | The First Jasmine E9 ° I heard from the servants that you're hiding here at my house because you're scared and can't beat someone in a fight.
The First Jasmine has engineered a male love interest who is stalking his girl and it's unequivocally the healthiest and most necessary thing he could be doing
so far the first jasmine has been
mo xiuyao: nighttime secret meetings with the boys, staring menacingly in the distance, broodingly copying sutras, having a break down or two, scolding the emperor, wondering what's wrong with his wife (affectionate), having war flashbacks and back pains, thinking how to get to his enemies subtly but lethally---
ye li: aaaaand KILLED. next ✌🏼
and i think it's beautiful
The way she matter of factly plops herself on his lap!
The domesticity of it all...
The way he covers her hand!!!
And the maid thing again, ooof. But it's actually great that he's now by her side keeping her warm - a real person and not a hallucination. (Think of that shot of two pairs of shoes by the bed unlike in the earlier ep when she's on the bed with the maid and there is only one pair. It's quietly symbolic.)
The way this is the SECOND time she's fallen asleep holding his palm under her cheek!
The very very gentle forehead kiss aaaaa
And the way he puts his arm around her.
The way she’s had enough of his self-torture and goes and does a giant bonfire of all the documents/evidence he uses to torture himself with!
Yeah dude, she ain’t gonna stop. Bai Lu is always gonna domme, only question is whether she will do it gently and caringly or psychically and luckily for you, it’s the former in this one.
I loved her refusing to back down.
Of course he rages, he’s a mess and a half.
This is “get cared for, idiot!” in action!
Honestly, I love her so much!
She is so very not OK.
I do love how she sees him as her safety.
That's a face of a man who's realizing things are NOT ok with cheerful wife.
This really hits.
The way he orders this anyway, on the off chance she's right and to reassure her (just as he later pays off all monkey trainers to leave town.)
Reason 800 something went way wrong on that mountain.
Emo prince: take one step further and I will jump and drown. FL: steppity step step.
😂😂😂
I love her!
but also dude if this woman sees you as an insect, there ain’t no hope for this love to bloom.
The scene where he first stands up and he's so terrified to hope but takes those first few steps aaaa and the little things like her putting his hand on the railing thing because she knows he's scared to do it himself.
And he does walk, however haltingly, and his faaaace!
But I also love that it's not easy or instantaneous - after this sequence we see him practice for days still with the walker, and have to take meds and what not, and here when he tries to walk by himself, he can barely take a few steps.
I love how they care for each other!
The little servant girl expresses everything she can't, doesn't she? She's her comfort but also her outlet.
He kept the paper she wrapped the cakes in back then, the ones that saved him from starvation!
I love that he's a smart person and a proportional one and so it's clear he knows multiple things are off with her, but he can also see that she means him nothing but good so while he doesn't trust her in terms of everything, he trusts her to be a good person who means no harm to him.
Also, her sneaking sugar is so once again an echo of interrupted childhood (it's so interesting how it isn't just any good but sweets that figure in this story as emotional food stuff - cake for him, sugar for her.) But also he made her a meal, awwww (just as well he can cook something at least, if the trailers of going back to the mountain at some point are correct.)
I love that she's both so open with him and yet not because while I don't know if her having honey is accurate (may well have been), her brain is refusing to process the rest of the story and so it's a story of communal privation not whatever hell it actually was.
She adds sugar to her soup - shudder. He MUST be in love to be able to chew it with a straight face (but the matter of fact intimacy of her feeling him from her own bowl and utensils!) But also the way she shuts down any discussion of the Ye fam and he is noticing more and more how not OK she is.
