Recently, I found my new interest to draw a new object. It was a sudden, I wanted to draw a Smeraldo on my Sketchbook. The Smeraldo flowers was appeared in BTS I Need U MV, BTS Highlight Reel, BTS Fake Love, and many more but I didn't realize and remember it that much 😂
I searched about Smeraldo, and I found it was really beautiful. Also, I found it has a really deep meaning and story. My interest was getting bigger to know about Smeraldo.
I read Indrachapa J's article about 'Legend of The Smeraldo Flower' in Medium.com, and I tried to re-tell about Smeraldo's story.
Smeraldo in Italian means 'emerald'. Smeraldo is a fictional flower. But this non-existed flower is quite symbolical.
Smeraldo flowers stands for:
‘Non potevo dire la verità’ or "The truth I couldn't tell".
Smeraldo is a flower with a heart-breaking story. According to the story, there once lived a man. He lived in a castle in 'La Citta di Smeraldo'.
There were so many rumors about it. Based on the story, the man hid himself alone in the castle because he was so 'ugly'. He wore a mask everytime. He was 'ugly' so he received jealousy and hatred in his life.
He shut himself and his heart from the world.
It says his only joy was only to grow flowers in his garder. It made him happy and peaceful.
Until one day, a girl appeared in his castle, and stole some of his flowers. At first, the man was mad so he spent his night to guards his flowers. The girl picked up his flowers and run away.
After passed several nights, he was curious about the girl. The man pretends to be asleep, and watched the girl go. The man followed the girl to a village, and realized the reasons why she stole his flowers every night.
He found out that the girl sells the flowers because she's very poor and she got no choice left except sells the flowers. The man felt very bad for her, and he really wanted to help the girl.
He wanted to teach the girl every method of how to grow beautiful flowers. And he was slowly falling in love with her.
The man started growing so many flowers. He made sure the flowers at their best quality.
He wanted to show up in front of the girl and tell her about his feelings. But he knows that she would be scared of him.
He decided to hid himself from the girl too. He was ugly, and she wouldn't love his ugly appearance.
He never got the courage to confront her.
The only thing he could do was: to grow the flowers so that she keep coming to his garden.
He decided to grow the most expensive flower for her to sell. That was the only thing to show his sincerity for her. The flower called Smeraldo.
He locked himself in the castle to grop up the Smeraldo. He succeed to grow the Smeraldo. The flower was very beautiful. It was a flower that never existed in this world. He filled his garden with Smeraldos, and waited till nightfall for the girl to return.
He waited the girl everynight, but the girl didn't showed up in his garden. She never showed up anymore, no matter how long he waited for her.
After that, he visited the village he followed her before. And unfortunately, he found out that the girl had died. He never had a chance to tell her about his feelings.
The heartbreaking story behind the beautiful Smeraldo about being scared to show true self. In the story, the man didn't love himself and shut himself from the world. If he had loved himself, he could have showed his face to the girl and helped her before she passed away.
This story's connected with BTS 'The Truth Untold' song. They're produced the song featuring Steve Aoki, from the viewpoint of the man. 'The Truth Untold' was in the Love Yourself: Tear album. The song teach us about loving ourself first before loving someone.
