I was going to get all hot and bothered and share how running just 1 miles has become extremely difficult for me. {pause} But then I remembered....I’ve completed THREE HALF MARATHONS. That 13.1 consecutive miles without stopping THREE TIMES over. That’s almost FOURTY miles. Not including the other long races I’ve done or the miles in training I logged. We all have to start somewhere, and it’s always with that first toughest mile. Growing up Dominican we had just a few simple rules Be better than you were yesterday Make the ancestors proud Remember la patria. La Bandera had 2 meanings: 🇩🇴 & 🍛 Start the day with plátano y salami Cafecito is enjoyed any time. I’ve followed the rules doing what I could to make my parents proud. Unsaid, it was my responsibility to prove to them emigrating to the States was worth it. We go the extra mile for our parents, getting close to perfect; a successful & productive citizen of society. Sometimes that meant being a “good” American & understanding the privileges we were granted simply because we were born with a blue passport. I’ve felt guilty & been feeling like this for some time. {Imposture Syndrome much} I can yell it off the rooftops, I can wear it on my chest but at the end of the day I WILL NEVER be Dominican enough. I remember the EXACT day I lost my Spanish-Spanish. I was in high school & two women I worked with made fun of me because; “you sound so Dominican jajaja” They were Ecuadorian and felt my Spanish & culture was inferior because I spoke fast and sometimes forgot to end my words often skipping the “s” if it ended with one. Today I have a weird twang😕. Spanglish, an accent sprinkled with Spanish learned in school, lathered in Dominicanismo who sometimes sounds like they were raised by Colombians🤷🏽‍♀️. When speaking Spanish I think & form my sentences in English. Forgetting simple words like goma or almohada. I have many brain farts where I picture the thing I’m talking about it, think of the word in Spanish & can’t remember the word in English. I prepped my lunch bowl this morning before getting ready for work and was done by the time my coffee finished brewing. How to make a Nutrient Rich Salad Bowl in 4 Simple steps 1. Choose a base and add to bowl - my go to is Chopped Romaine - {BUDGET HACK} buy a bag of 3 heart of Romaine in a bag. Chop one at a time and save in a large mixing bowl until ready for use. Store the other 2 in the veggie drawer in the fridge. 2. Add color - chopped Bell Peppers are easy. {BUDGET HACK} Chop them yourself - buy a pack of four - red, green, orange and yellow. Wash & chop and store in a Tupperware until ready for use. 3. Add Protein - Protein will keep you full longer. Grilled chicken is always 👍🏽. Another hack - invest in a panini grill or George Foreman, grill your protein for dinner and have the left over for lunch {#piensalo} 4. Accessorize: add more color, more protein, some crunch & even some grains. 😉And of course don’t forget the dressing ...SIMPLE RIGHT?! Growth is painful Change is painful But nothing is as painful as staying stuck somewhere you don’t belong. 6 months can erase years of progress. The right mindset can place you back on track in 30days or less. {SWIPE LEFT!} I was teetering with my heaviest AGAIN! I’ll blame it on the 🐼-moniam but in reality I threw caution out in to the wind and ignored the fundamentals and healthy lifestyle system I worked 2years creating for myself. I also allowed the things I couldn’t control, control me. Motivation is bullshit - discipline is everything. I won’t lie, but motivation to look cute on the beach in a few weeks got me thinking, discipline is what got me moving. So what did I do... 🤜🏽I got disciplined enough and delete UberEats app from my phone 🤜🏽I got disciplined and concentrated on gut health. 🤜🏽I got disciplined and started to move more. 🤜🏽I got disciplined and made Sundays my self care day. 🤜🏽I got disciplined and quit 2 jobs one reluctantly and the other which no longer serving me. Discipline doesn’t have to be hard, restrictive or dreadful. It simply means trying a little harder than you did yesterday. And today, I am 7lbs lighter than I was last month. With a clear head. No fogginess or lethargy and I’m waking up before my alarm goes off with actual energy. 🤯 The second half of 2021 has commenced. Write down your goals, makes them more real... ⭐️Run 3x/wk ⭐️ Hir 30min 5ks! ⭐️ Reach Pre 🐼 weight ⭐️Continue with Clean•ish Method Fundamentals ⭐️Get rid of this imposter syndrome ⭐️Make more time for the side hustle ...tell them off the rooftops so The Universe can hear and keep you accountable. Full disclosure: I’ve gained the Panimonium 15...and then som’😑 Half of the “and then som’” sits idly on my chin hidden under my mask. ... I noticed back in December as the scale gradually crept up. I mean what did I expect?! Eating more •ish than clean and I completely stopped running?! I’ve been strategically trying to hide behind masks, layers, oversized clothes, a desk, a computer, a steering wheel, filters, distance, memes, just about anything. ... Am I embarrassed; OF COURSE. ... Have I learned something - YES! ... I have absolutely no sense of work/life balance. I quickly fall into the work work work mode because its the simplest escape and easiest to blame. Everything else is hard! Work! Let’s be honest is easy. {now this is WORK itself only not the BS that sometimes comes with having a job} There’s no real challenge in a 9-5. You report to work. Complete your duties and call it a day. Some of us become really good at completing our duties and move up in the ranks and that’s cool, others just chill where they are, which is cool too. Entrepreneurship, weight loss, exercise, and leading; that’s challenging. That requires energy, resilience and to tap into parts of our brains and soul we’re sometimes too afraid to touch. The challenging we leave for last and somehow🤷🏽‍♀️ just never find time to do. ... Guess what else I learn - I DO HARD THINGS! Challenge accepted.
