58% of female runners under 30 are harrassed on their runs
Too often, I see females running alone without taking any safety precautions. They often don’t feel the need to because they won’t be gone long, they are running in a safe neighborhood, or they don’t live in a big city. More than half of ALL female runners are harassed on their runs.
I live in the middle of Wyoming where the crime rate is significantly low. Just a few months ago, I read an article about a woman who was attacked on her run on the same path that I use for my long runs. Females need to take safety precautions while running alone.
Invest in some pepper spray. Keep others informed. Switch up your running routine. Be careful running at night. Pay attention to your surroundings. Most importantly, do whatever you need to do in order to feel safe while running alone.
