Okay, I had a darker thought. This was probably not Yukinobu Tatsu’s intention, but Rin’s new power is starting to feel like commentary on the idol/entertainment industry.

So Rin’s whole gimmick is that she’s a pop idol. When she first gets her powers, she is given this really tacky, sexualized costume that she hates. This was her main costume for several chapters until her idol power increased, which unlocked her ability to change/upgrade outfits. So now Rin’s new costume is this respectable black suit that is far less sexualized than the original one. Also, it’s black because, presumably, it represents Rin’s love of dark romance (aka vampires).

You see where I’m getting at? When Rin was first “starting out” as a pop idol superhero, her costume was super tacky and sexualized. The original costume wasn’t her idea, the idea came from her manager Mai. Then when she got more “idol power” (goodwill, fandom, negotiating power, wealth, notoriety, etc), she was able to change her costume into something she actually likes and is far more respectable than the original outfit. Because with more power, you get more freedom.

I feel like no one understands better than me the feeling you get when spend time in a fandom and realize there’s a fanfic that’s universally known there.

The amount of excitement and anticipation I’ve receive from that information only cannot be replicated with any other thing in life.

Like there is no other fan fiction, in the fandom, made in the whole damn Internet that is better than that fic.

Doesn’t matter if another fic fulfilled your headcanon or did your favorite character justice. Or fleshed out an aspect you really like. The fic I’m talking about 98% of the time, either has it all or wrote something you never knew needed to read.

Especially when everyone agrees that whatever the content is, could have been done better. Or that there was something left to be desired.

Alternatively, if a certain part fandom universally loves a fanfic and you are included in that part of the fandom. (This is usually just ships/people who love a specific aspect) Get ready to read the best fic you’ll ever read in that fandom.

Because those fanfictions genuinely beat some of my favorite movies, series, and books. And ofc half of the time it also beats the original content but usually not if it has less than a 60k word count. Like that shit is unrivaled.

They literally embody the purpose of fanfictions and what I love about them so it isn’t that much of a shocker but my excitement for them is probably what hyper fixation looks like at its finest.

Even without her memories, Momo trusts Okarun so easily and completely. She leaps to protect him, tries the ogre club without hesitation, uses her grandmas spell (which without her memories she would be totally embarrassed of), hangs upside down over a seemingly infinite pit, instinctively she asks for him to grab her and knows he won’t let her fall!

Chapter 215: A Feeling of Distance Between Them

MVP of the arc goes to Miko and Kei, not that they're not already MVPs for Momo and Okarun's relationship lol. They knew just what to do to get them talking and hanging out. I was totally into ancient Egypt as a kid, so I'm pretty excited for this "mummy man" fight, though neither Okarun nor Momo have their powers... Maybe Momo's powers will awaken here, or she will use the "crime prevention whistle" she got from Sanjome. I've got my eye on you sir!

But back to their date, they're as cute as always 😭 Momo may think she's not interested in the supernatural, but when Okarun explains the theories, she's all ears. The way Okarun explained how aliens use human bodies to live on earth reminds me of the Kito family. Are there other connections like this?

And we have Okarun's confession of love 🥹 He just can't hold it in anymore, poor boy, he needed to answer the question honestly! In Japanese, he says "めっちゃ好きっス" (meccha suki ssu), meccha being slang for really/very/extremely, so the use of totally fits well.

Momo, you can't say you didn't feel anything from that confession. I want to believe somewhere in her subconscious, she still remembers Okarun and how much she likes him. That's why her heart skips a beat around him or she feels upset when Aira acts close with Okarun 😭

seeing how far he’s come in all this time just warms my heart. okarun started out as someone who was so shy and unsure of himself, and even though he’s still an awkward guy, he is so much more grounded with the new support system he has now.

the thing that makes momo fall for him is that he is just so unabashedly himself. when he’s not trying, he’s charming and sweet and caring and kind. in this chapter, we SEE that!!! when he can just be who he is, we see how interested and intriguing of a person he can be. we see momo engaging with that, smiling at that, listening to him speak.

this is what gives him the courage to come clean about his feelings. he LOVES her, and that’s not something that he feels ashamed of or has to hide. even if it’s scary to admit something like that, he is so secure in who he is and who MOMO is that he’s not afraid to be upfront about it. he DOES love her, and he knows that she loves him, too.

if she’s going to ask, he’s going to be honest. he doesn’t dance around it or try to deflect; he’s being himself. it’s something that’s just so beautiful about okarun as a character. the thing is that he’s never been afraid to tell it like it is, especially when it comes to momo (hence their bickering).

i LOVED this chapter. it really goes to show how much okarun has grown, AND it shows that when he’s able to just be himself, he and momo really do hit it off. their chemistry was insane, and everyone should say thank you to the GOATs, kei and miko (god BLESS). i cannot wait for the coming chapters. i get the feeling that we’re going to see even more growth soon (OKARUN FIGHTING NO YOKAI POWERS!!!)

ok i've been thinking about this all night, and like can you imagine what this has been like for Momo? She probably knows she has some gaps in her memory based on what jiji and her granny are telling her, but for the most part she's ok. She remembers most of her life, and she still has her friends and family. But there's something there in the back of her mind, something that feels like she's missing something she can't even figure out

and then it's even worse at school, when seeing that backdoor in her classroom seems to fill her with some emotion she can't quite place...it's not dread exactly, but it's something almost like anxiety...like there's something she's missing. Some part of her that doesn't quite feel complete. At times it's almost like anticipation?

Then she sees that boy, the one with glasses and wild hair who seemed very sweet and a bit shy that morning. The minute she saw him she felt a tug, a connection, something that made no sense to her until Jiji told her they had been good friends. Surely that was what it was.

and yet seeing him at the classroom door seems to make complete sense. It seems to fill her with a sense of relief and comfort. But that in itself doesn't make sense, does it? Either way it's the calmest she's felt in a bit and she's hoping he'll come talk to her and it will all make sense but then he disappears...only to basically stalk her all day (as if she wouldn't notice???). So she has to take matters into her own hands, and he can't even look her in the eyes and it's all messy and weird but also feels familiar and exactly like this is the way things should be

I think the thing I love most about this chapter is that it's clear that Momo and Okarun aren't starting from zero. She still remembers that he's important to her. They even have some of their trademark squabbling An acquaintance just described this arc as a possible metaphor for reconnecting with an old friend you haven't seen in a long time but still care about, and I think that tracks

nothing about the latest dandadan chapter makes me cry more than the fact that okarun definitely could've outrun momo (especially since she doesnt remember her powers) but he didn't

heartbroken, nervous, unsure of what hes doing; he still didnt run so fast that momo couldnt catch him....
