My favorite part of Blue Eye Samurai is the revival of fucked up homoeroticism. Stories used to contain plenty of guys who aren't explicitly gay but do gay things. Some of this was intentional queer coding and some of it was the logical conclusion of writing fucked up men who are close and weird about it. This fell out of fashion as gay representation became mainstream and acceptable. I'd thought it was a lost art.

Not the case with Abijah Fowler and Heiji Shindo. These men have sex with only women and somehow manage to make their relationship gayer than some actually gay couples in other shows. They have dinner together every night. Heiji wanted to hang Abijah's painting in his bedroom. Abijah called Heiji his "right hand and two feet on land, fondest heart" while threatining him. They got sucked off while sitting next to each other. Heiji wanted Abijah dead. Heiji sat fully clothed next to Abijah and talked business while Abijah was being pegged, all while watching a woman be groped by an octopus. Abijah pinned a flower to Heiji's clothes and Heiji canonically kept it on for three days. These two are moving in such a way that I have no choice but to give them my respect.
