I have not had the chance to post this until now because I have been busy studying for an exam. But while I was at the CSW, I thought that it was very hot because of all the people that were in the student center ballroom at once. Overall, I saw some really good projects that...

Celebration of Student Writing
I had a good time at the Celebration of Student Writing. Our table seemed to be very well thought out and involved a lot of different aspects that other tables did not have. For example, our table had posters, interactive activities, and social media. Other tables did not have a large variety like our table did. In addition, our projects were all very different from each other, which made our table interesting because there were so many different types of activities and projects. Our table had colorful posters, word searches, and fun games that a lot of people at the Celebration of Student Writing seemed to enjoy.
A lot of people at the Celebration of Student Writing seemed to enjoy our table and were very interested in our interactive activities. I was standing by the monopoly board and the pin map and a lot of people wanted to leave their mark on our class project by placing a pin where they are from. I feel like the pin up map was really cool, because I was surprised that a lot of people who attend Eastern Michigan University are from a lot of different places around the United States and even around the world. I also noticed that our class was well prepared when people came to our table because we provided a lot of information about the theme of our table, our hometowns, and even classmates hometowns sometimes.
The one thing that I wish could be different at the Celebration of Student Writing would be the temperature of the ballroom. I wish we could have brought fans into the ballroom because it was really hot in there. It was really nice that we only had to be at the Celebration was of Student Writing for half hour shifts though because I was happy that I got to be at the Celebration of Student Writing and tell some people about my project, but I am glad that I did not have to be there the whole time because I would not have liked to stand there for an hour and a half like some students in other classes had to do. Overall though, I liked the Celebration of Student Writing.

Okay so after today discussions I think that the monopoly board game was a very good idea as well as the maps idea. However both of those ideas I found to be more possible after they were tweaked a tiny bit.
I really liked the monopoly board idea too! I think it would be cool if the monopoly game was life sized and people at the CSW could actually play our hometown monopoly game.
CSW Table
I really liked the idea that we talked about in class today about involving maps for our table at the Celebration of Student Writing. I think it would be a good idea for each person to print out a map of their hometown and put it near their project so that people at the Celebration can have a visual image of what our hometowns look like. Other than this idea, I also liked the idea of having a large map of the world. With a large map of the world, our class could use push pins of one color on the map to mark where our hometowns are, and guest at the Celebration of Student Writing could use push pins of a different color to mark where their hometown is. I think that this is a good idea because guest at the Celebration of Student Writing could interact with the map. If guest at the Celebration of Student Writing can interact with our map, they will have a fun time at our table and be more interested in viewing our projects. I feel like the map of the world is also a cool idea because we will be able to compare where people in our class live to other people at Eastern Michigan University.
Joanna, I thought it was cool, and really unique how your high school was bold enough to develop all these different groups based of their racial background. i thought it was cool because of how many their were. and also i liked how all these students were proud of where they came from was awesome

Joanna, I thought your topic about the racial clubs at your high school was interesting because my high school didn’t have clubs like that. It is a neat way to show racial diversity. Do you find the clubs important, and did you join or support any of them?
I think the clubs are important because they expose different cultures to students and open students up to explore a new culture that they may not have previously thought about exploring. I supported the Indian American Student Association the most because I had a lot of friends in this club and eventually they convinced me to join too. I really enjoyed my time in this club because I love to dance and I got to try Bollywood dancing, which is a type of dance that I've never tried.

I really like this story too! I also liked how she leads readers on a journey through her life with a story about her shoes.
Genre Transformation
I read the EM-Journal article “Converse Chuck Taylors: A Personal Artifact,” by Sarah Brethen. I was attracted to this article because I love converse sneakers so I thought it would be interesting to read about them, and I’ve been thinking about getting a new pair. I am so glad I chose to read this article because it ended up being a touching story about a girl and her shoes. This story was good because it took me on a journey through her life and how the shoes played an important part in almost every part of her life through boosting her confidence, to making new friends, spending time with family, and getting through school.
Instead of just telling a story about her life, the author told a story about her life by using the most important item to her, and how this item helped her throughout her life. This technique was helpful because it allows readers to see how the shoes changed the author and her life. The author’s deep and lengthy descriptions of events also helped readers understand her life more, because she described every detail in regards to what was happening when she wore the shoes. In addition, I like how the author broke the story into separate parts for each new pair of shoes she got, because it showed how each new pair of shoes represented a different chapter of her life.
The whole time I was reading this story, I was thinking about how I can relate to her story because I do the same thing the author does, but with necklaces instead of converse. Friends and family have bought me necklaces at different times in my life for different reasons or occasions. My favorite example is my wing necklace. My wing necklace is my favorite because my aunt bought it for me after my dad died. This necklace is important to me because it makes me think of my dad as an angel. I wore this necklace for a long time and every time I put it on I thought of my dad, but eventually it broke in the washer so I needed a new necklace. I then moved on to a different necklace with a different meaning, that I wore for a different stage of my life just like the author did with her converse.

A source I used is http://www.drugabuse.gov/publications/drugfacts/high-school-youth-trends . I chose this source because the information seems to be true because it states statistics. I do agree with the information in this source because their are facts presented.
That's a good reason to agree with the source, since it's facts are proven to be true.

I am using this post in my research paper to demonstrate how racially diverse clubs at The Park bring students together who would not usually hangout with each other. It seems hard to research about my topic, but it’s one that seems to fit with my city. I’ve found several sources that are useful and am trying to figure out how to put them in the perfect spots of my paper. Research papers are not my strong suit for sure, but hopefully this one comes together.

My research project is going well. The only problem I am running into, is not finding enough information on the subject. If anyone has any suggestions I will gladly take them. So my project is on the fire that happened in my town. I have found information on the insurance company and what the community thinks about what has happened. But, I can’t seem to find any information on what actually happened… I don’t know if the problem was ever figured out.
Maybe you could try checking newspapers from your community for information about what happened.

I found the source “Plymouth-Canton High School Students Celebrate Diversity,” online at the website plymouth-mi.patch.com. This source is about the diversity show that was held at Salem High School by PCEP’s Diversity Counsel on February 12, 2011. This event united the three high schools as different clubs at PCEP all performed on stage. Every club represented a different culture and a different race. People attending the event got to experience and learn about different cultures. The diversity show was also a good event because the students in the show got to experience new cultures and hangout with people that they would not usually hangout with at the same time. This source demonstrates how racial diversity affects students socially at The Park because the article describes how the diversity brought students together.

I had a difficult time finding sources for my paper. I thought it would be a lot easier finding sources about diversity at PCEP since there is a school newspaper and a newspaper for the city of Canton, however, I could not find any articles about diversity in these two newspapers. I ended up finding all of my sources online. Only one out of the three articles I used involved students at PCEP and I was hoping to find more, however, I am happy with the other two articles I found. One of my articles involves how teachers can help racially diverse students communicate better, one is about a diversity show at PCEP, and the last article is about a diversity show for the city of Canton.
