I was a BIG DREAMER! I was the kid that would lock myself in the bathroom “beat my face” with my grandmother’s makeup, put a tshirt on my head as my “hair” LOL turn that boombox on and GO FOR BROKE & have a FULL FLEDGED concert! I gave MYSELF life! I just knew that I was going to be a teacher by profession and a extravagant performer/superstar at night (I dont know how i was gonna balance that) lol! The thing is that no one ever stifled and extinguished that dream! Years later we can CLEARLY see that i’m no singer or teaching elementary as planned. But am I living my life the best way I know how? YES! It came back full circle..do I teach? YES! I teach people how to fight for their dreams and to go after their visions with zeal and force! Am I on stage performing at the Wembley in front of thousands of people? No. But I work a dream job with some of the best and on the best who do perform in front of thousands…I say all of this to say, those dreams once activated turn into visions. Never kill the joy you had when you were little…that lil Meika inspired the woman I am now. Don’t assassinate that girl/boy with dreams for that person will be birth into an adult with a vision. #faithactivated #encouragement #visions #dreams

Janes of All Trades #SmartestJanesonTwitter

Recently Fast Company released an article entitled “25 Of The Smartest Women On Twitter” which immediately gained the attention of women on Twitter. Upon review of the list something stood out to Fast Company's readers and Twitter, the list did not include women of color or women under the age of 30. This sparked women of various groups to create the following hashtags, #SmartBlackWomenofTwitter, #SmartAAPIWomenofTwitter, #SmartLatinaWomenofTwitter and #SmartTransWomenofTwitter to highlight the plethora of women on Twitter who could easily be on this list. Here at Janes of All Trades we have a network of phenomenal women that we feel should be highlighted as well which has sparked our feature entitled Smartest Janes of Twitter. 12-step recipe for growing a small business

1. Ask yourself why am I in business? Is it to be a financial success? Is it to create financial independence? Is it to give myself a job? Understand your motivation , because that will determine your effort, and ultimately your bottom line. 2. Pursue your passion (purpose) instead of a paycheck. It is more fulfilling when you’re doing what you enjoy doing most. Purpose plus passion equals profit. 3. Be “You”-nique. Do something that no one else is doing, and do it well. If you do something that someone else is doing, do it better. That is how you create a brand. 4. Adopt the ideology that the customer comes first. A happy customer will be a repeat customer, and refer other customers. 5. Know your business. Who is your customer? Who is your competition? What are others doing in the industry (right or wrong)? What are the industry trends? 6. Have an expansion plan, write it down and don’t forget the dates. We have all heard the old adage: “Failure to plan is planning to fail.” Don’t be afraid to grow. 7. Work the plan. If it works, work it. If it doesn’t, change it. 8.Reach out and touch. Achieve your expansion plan by collaborating with others. Complement your business by offering products and services of others in the industry. Entering into new markets is a sign of sound business practices. Join women auxiliaries (local and national), and acquire the wisdom you need from those that have paved the way for you. 9. Ignore the critics and dream killers. Follow your dream. You’ll be surprised where it will take you. 10. Invest in yourself first. You can’t grow your business if you are wearing your profits on your feet. Pretty shoes are great. However, a retirement account and a rainy day fund are must haves. 11. Don’t quit your business. Stay true to you. Many opportunities will be presented. Treat them as distractions, and invest your time, energy and money into your own venture. 12. Lead by example. Inspire and empower your team to become leaders. Surround yourself with people who buy into your vision, and are able to move your business agenda along.
