For my emulation of a cyanotype image I found this website very helpful.
http://www.infoparrot.com/cyanotype-portraits-in-lightroom/
I mostly followed the procedure that this website recommends, whilst also baring in mind advice given by Suzanne and my peers. The website recommends to use the cyanotype preset to begin with, which is a great start but also quite pale and more must be done to make it look right. Things like editing the white balance correctly, and upping the exposure and contrast really do help make it more bold. Adding a film grain also helps give it an old look, evidently. In order to make the blue stand out more, the best thing to do is to edit your tonal curve, select channel blue and adjust it to a backwards “S”. The last thing to do to successfully achieve this emulation is to reduce sharpness and clarity to have a more, traditionally blurred effect.

Tish Murtha’s work is breathtaking. It depicts a working class lifestyle in the 70′s in Britain. Her work is appreciated worldwide, as I initially found her work in a NY Times article. She has a clear message in her work that Britain was in a deficient state at the time and her use of young subjects helps make it clear that it is going to effect the next generation of brits.

Dragos Ioneanu is a photographer based in Copenhagen who specialises in B&W. His work is mostly landscapes but with a more visual-art based approach. I really like his work mostly for his composition. Everything he shoots has symmetry in it, and it particularly shows in his rural landscapes and seascapes.

Although this is not credit given strictly to one person, nor is it photography, the work in Misery (1991) has inspired my photography massively. The credit for this masterpiece of a film and the amazing shots achieved should be credited to Rob Reiner (director), Barry Sonnenfeld (cinematographer), and Stephen King (Author).
This film is one of the most immaculately shot films I have ever seen. From start to finish it is jam packed with compositions that please the eye. The cameras used to film the movie have given the film a slight grainy look, which I feel is needed and works very well. The way the film really caught my eye is the fact that there is hardly any footage in the film outside the house, yet the director and cinematographer have managed to make such a pleasant viewing despite this.
Just to clarify, I have made the film out to be way more pleasant than it is, and in fact, it’s actually disgusting. None the less it’s my favourite film ever and I could not recommend it more.

Atiba Jefferson’s work I love because it has creative intentions whilst also generally being sports photography. His images capture moments accurately whilst also including interesting compositions and uses of light. He is an inspiration to me purely because of my love for skateboarding: he gives me ambition to photograph skateboarding more than I do at present. His work isn’t only great for the skateboarding content but also the areas/spots where he captures images.

Another fashion based photographer whose work I adore is that of Ron Leighton. His work started in the 1970′s but what initially got me into his work is Stussy’s advertising campaigns that date back to the 80′s. He was a huge part in establishing the brand throughout the world, through his artistic and bizarre approach to fashion photography. I will always have a lot of respect for this man , if someone were to emulate his work in this day and age for a new fashion brand, it would be very successful. The fact his work with Stussy hasn’t dated even slightly in 30 years just shows you clear his vision is.

Terry Richardson is a photographer who has unintentionally inspired me through the years of his work with Supreme. This is a brand that I have been following for a number of years, and the work they have released has grown on millions of people, regardless of whether they have any interest in skateboarding. His work is fashion based, and at times can be quite sexual. His engagement in celebrities has made his work go from good to great, having done work with supermodels that date back to the mid 90′s.

John Farnan’s work is one of, if not the most inspiring things I have ever seen. He can successfully portray Glasgow in a way that not only defines it, but also in a way that allows the viewer to feel the raw, gritty-ness that the city has to offer. He allows me as a young adult from elsewhere in Scotland, to see Glasgow in the way it should be. The fact some of the locations in his shots are recognisable to me makes the images that little bit more special.

I love Martin Seans work because of the diversity he has to offer. He shoots a wide range of subjects and styles, anything from fine art, to wildlife, to commercial projects that are still creatively inspiring. His wildlife in particular really inspires me because he captures moments in animals routine that are more engaging than others, and still seems to get the light and composition right.

@Astrodub is a photographer and artist who I regard very highly. She has an urban feeling to her images without reaching out to your typical urban landscapes. She uses, light, composition, colour and symmetry perfectly to create a very unique style of work. Her images not only inspire me but they also motivate me, as my work is lightyears away from being this high quality.
