I found letter U very hard to play. A work in progress...
Rhythmic Fundamentals (3X)
Letter X is easy to play. And hey....it's Xmas, so I filmed it at a march for peace on Christmas Eve here in Eindhoven.
Our place was all W-hite from snow. W-inter… Enough reason to jump to letter “W" of this Rumba Clave project.
To discover -(and someday hopefully master)- how the ‘Ternary Letters" from Benny Greb’s “The Language of Drumming” relate to a Rumba Clave /Heartbeat ostinato takes a lot more time and effort than the “Binary Letters”. For me the first step was: Turn the tempo way down, and surround yourself with nice/fun company to practice with :)
Not Rumba Clave… but Son Clave. Published here to demonstrate the difference between 3-2 and 2-3 Clave. The clave pattern itself never changes. Renee has to start singing the first song on the three side of the Clave, but the second song has to start on the two side. And finally the ending back on “one” of the three side again. Seven years young at the time, Renee switches between 3-2 and 2-3 clave flawless , with these two songs from K3 (A Dutch vocal trio, especially for children)
