Something about Riders of Berk and Defenders of Berk is just so... comforting to me.

I enjoy Race to the Edge. I was there at every season drop anxiously awaiting Hiccstrid to get together. However, even though the animation is of lower quality, seeing the kids in their original designs, on Berk as their home base, will just always warm my heart.

HTTYD got me through spinal surgery. It’s a comfort franchise to me, it’s home. And the first film/ ROB and DOB will always be the heart of that. I’m not sure if this is an unpopular opinion, but I will always prefer to CN series to the Netflix one for this reason. It’s closer to the home and roots of the franchise–that first film which I fell in love with. 

does anyone in the fandom have any thoughts on this? Which show do you order? I’m curious!

I absolutely agree with this. I also had this series as a distraction from my spinal surgery, and I absolutely love it. There's something about the animation that feels like home.
