Remember, the fight for progress and change is a marathon, not a sprint.
Don't give up, it is working. The people with the power always seem invincible until they start to crumble.
For those who have missed it, a tourist in Hawaii decided it would be fun to chuck a rock (a BIG rock) at a monk seal. He missed, but he was captured on video, and when told it was illegal to interfere with them, said "I'm rich, I can pay the fine."
Is the best part that he got doxxed? No.
Is the best part that he got tracked down by a local and beaten? No.
Arrested on state at federal charges, looking at up to 5 years and 50K? Nope.
The best part is the local city council's reaction.
And the best part of that is the look on the attorney's face.
More of this please, everywhere.
After the incident, another video went viral showing what appeared to be that man getting a beating. The Maui Police Department said they had no record of any reports of disorderly conduct or assault related to the monk seal incident.
Even the local police are being cool about this.
Some people only listen to the fist
I hate how entitled bicyclists here are.
The sidewalk is for walking. Pedestrians. It's in the words.
In a bike-friendly city with bike lanes on both sides of the street, I should be able to walk on the sidewalk safely away from vehicles. A bicycle, which is a vehicle, chasing me off the walking path. It does not matter that the vehicle is powered by a human instead of gasoline. I should be safe and not afraid someone will come up behind me demanding I move because they deem me to be in their way.
If the cyclist is afraid of motorized vehicles, perhaps wearing a helmet and maybe something reflective or illuminated is a good idea. Running me off the sidewalk is not the way to do things.
And having someone tell me it's not an electric scooter so it's not that bad is also not cool.
Stay in the bike lane. Let pedestrians use the sidewalk. Stop pretending laws only apply to cars.
Fuck bikes.
Ah someone else who gets it.
Sidewalks are for walkers (and those who use wheelchairs). If you have to bike on the sidewalk, slow down when passing. I've almost been stuck dozens of times by people who fly down at 20+mph without concern for who else is around.
You can slow down for a moment, and no, your bell isn't adequate. In a city you have to take a moment to isolate that noise and recognize it. By then, the cyclist is right on top of you.
Yield to pedestrians
Some of you are probably wondering how this USA election could be so cursed. Media will offer countless excuses or reasons other than to state the obvious; our nation is still driven by racism, bigotry, misogyny, and greed.
It isn't complicated, and it's the truth.
You can't hope to win an ideological battle unless you understand your foe's ideals and motivations. Unfortunately, this means accepting some ugly truths: a lot of people are either profanely ignorant at best and actively evil at worse.
But despite all that, there is hope: for evil to triumph, good must do nothing.
Be good, do something, no matter how small. You won't change everyone's mind, and sometimes it takes years after the fact for your actions to pay off, but it does help.
It won't always be easy, but never give up, that's what they want.
Btw you can be intensely critical of the Democratic party and recognize that it is full of aged out of touch moderates who are refusing to meet the urgency of the moment,
and also recognize that voting for Democrats is extremely important because it allows things like the confirmation of Justices and prevents the literal fascist party from gaining more power and that harm reduction is an important end in itself
These things can coexist
Politics is a long game. Being disappointed and angry today does not obviate your responsibility to participate
Finally, someone who gets it.
American doomerism needs to be studied
“It is literally impossible for us to build trains” - person posting from one of the most wealthy and powerful societies in history
this is a misunderstanding of the tweet so silly that imagining it's purposeful is the most generous option -- oop is obviously not arguing that it is physically, logistically, industrially. &c. impossible for the usa to build high speed rail (clearly false), but that it is politically impossible (which you could debate, if you want, but i think is plainly true and is more plainly an obviously legitimate viewpoint and not 'doomerism') -- it doesn't matter how wealthy and powerful your society is when the people with the wealth and power don't want something to happen!
My reading of the word “impossible” is that it means “not possible.” If the OP post said “neoliberalism has made it far more difficult to muster the political will necessary to break through bureaucratic deadlock in order to build large-scale infrastructure projects,” it would be correct. But when I see the word “impossible,” I assume that people use it to mean “impossible”
Classic case of semantics.
thinking about making a rap song rapping about the dimensions
In the 1st dimension there was just empty space. With a single dot, it don't even got a face.
In the 2nd dimension, we begin to blow your mind cause now we got dots on a line.
In the 3rd dimension we just go insane, because now we can rise up from the plane.
The 4th dimension is a favorite of mine because we get explore that which is time.
I hate euphemisms so much. What purpose do they serve but to hide the truth.
The truth is blunt, sometimes it's ugly, other times it's unpleasant. Rather than make feeble attempts at hiding the nature of things, we should perhaps do something productive about them. Instead of covering up the truth.
The AAA gaming industry's obsession with making everything as photo realistic as possible is insulting. They continue to bamboozle people with "the graphics" while skimping on everything else.
Terrible gameplay, piss poor narrative, remarkably short single player campaigns, game breaking bugs, lack of optimization, all for the low price of $60 to $70.
No art direction, so every game looks like shiny tripe. Dlc, not because the devs had more game to give us, but because the game isn't finished.
Constraints breed creativity.

Honestly fuck this. Yeah, I get it, trolls exist but this is just worse. Thanks to social media everyone is just screaming opinions out into the void. We've just watched the death of discourse in real time.
I miss forums. They were hilarious archives of discussion. Sometimes you found an ancient one that upon reading gives you a glimps into past. Old rivalries, unending shenanigans, terrible fan-fiction, or forgotten knowledge.
