heavy is the crown
[lyrics from Step by Vampire Weekend]
A small green dragon who's always hungry, loves cuddling Hiccup and picks fights he can't win? Close enough. Welcome back, book toothless đ
How To Train Your Dragon (2010)
The scene between Hiccup and Snotlout on the ship in book eleven is one of the best depictions of a person self destructingâ and explicitly vocalizing the thought process behind itâ that I have ever seen in media. PERIOD. And the fact it comes from a childrenâs book? And the character is shown getting out of that self destruction through the support of a loved one they had been denying they had? And is followed by reconciliation and a newfound purpose?
Of course it makes what follows absolutely gut wrenching and brutalâ like, genuinely difficult to listen to (if youâre like me and read via the audiobooks). But Iâll de damned if Cressida Cowell isnât a gift to this world for what she puts into it through her stories.
Just relistened to all of the HTTYD audiobooks, and if I had to sum up the thesis of this story, and Hiccupâs character, in one quick observation it would be this:
Hiccupâs opening narration does not end in âthis is the story of how I became a kingâ. It ends in âthis is the story of becoming a hero⌠the hard way.â And that just speaks volumesâ about the character of Hiccup himself, about the incredible life lessons Cressida Cowell presents in these books, and to how gosh darn good the adaption is in that it captured that essence and just⌠bottled it for a movie format.
IâM GONNA EAT THEM âźď¸

Remember that one episode where the twins send Snotlout on a wild goose chase obtaining a laundry list of items just to get into their exclusive shelter before the Flightmare comes?
I think about that sometimes. Donât let people use you when no matter how much you do itâs never enough. Also if I recall correctly at one point they ask for a sturgeon dressed like Stoick, their chief. Donât remember if Snotlout somehow finds that one but either way, that is hilarious but also kind of concerning.
My favorite part of HTTYD is when Hiccup narrates how on Berk it snows nine months of the year and hails the other three, meanwhile on screen it is a beautiful sunny day.
Hiccup Haddock you are the level of melodramatic I aspire to be.
HAPPY 15 YEARS TO THE MOVIE OF ALL TIME!!
u gotta be shitting me

âHiccup & Toothlessâ
The HTTYD movie is now the same age as Hiccup was in the first movie...
And Toothless!
I hate this so much.
Astrid and âdragonâ? Bitch her name is Stormfly and she knows her worth, have some respect.
The worst part of this previous holiday season was Gift of the Night Fury not being available on any streaming platform.
I need my baby dragon fix. And Hiccup calling Astrid milady. And to cry when Toothless comes back and destroys that new tail.
