eleanor guthrie did not go from wearing cravats and vests to corsets and gowns just for people to say she always dressed like a femme. don't worry ms guthrie I saw you cut away pieces of yourself to achieve acceptability in rogers' eyes and be accepted back into the english upperclass and then die anyway the same way your mother did before you.
But I hear other voices. A chorus of voices. Multitudes. They reach back centuries. Men and women and children who’d lost their lives to men like you. Men and women and children forced to wear your chains. I must answer to them, and this war, their war, Flint’s war, my war… it will not be bargained to avoid a fight to save John Silver’s life or his men’s or mine.
BLACK SAILS, XXV
james flint's most endearing trait is that he understands women to be inherently three-dimensional, complex and deserving of respect (especially for the positions of authority they occupy). in contrast, he is barely convinced that most men have brains.

do u ever think about eleanormadi. like. here's your childhood best friend you thought was dead! you're both on opposite sides of the war now. despite it all, you rekindle the friendship slowly, if only for an afternoon. then, you die fighting by her side, and your LAST words are about her. "I tried to save her, madi. I tried to save her."
just saw a tiktok (sorry) saying its gonna be pirate romance summer over clips of will/elizabeth and some other straight couple and then. eleanor/vane. with the caption "watch black sails". and like whatever gets ppl watching but i cant help and imagine whatever straight girlies turning on black sails expecting to see vane be some hopeless romantic to eleanors self insert and instead seeing them immediately punch each other followed by max/eleanor extended lesbian sex scene. pirate romance summer indeed
“Well, I’ve heard of him myself, in England,” said the doctor. “But the point is, had he money?” “Money!” cried the squire.

XXVI. When you told me this was to be, I was upset by the thought of having lied to Anne. I was devastated by the certainty it would unavoidably lead to her death. For the moment she realized that Jack was not there, that she had been crossed, and that she would likely never see him again, she would attempt to kill anyone she deemed responsible. Eight? You could have sent a thousand men. It would not have deterred her. And now you are saying to me that she knew she had been crossed and chose to walk away to save herself?

“It’s the wrong river, and the wrong woman, but perhaps to get even this close to a fantasy is something.”

In a scene between Jack and Teach, Teach says of Vane, “I knew right away he was different from the others. He was so like me when I was a younger man. And that somehow he and I were fated to matter to one another.” Jack looks moved by the confession.
In a scene between Max and Marion Guthrie, Marion says of Eleanor, “I held out hope from the beginning that someday she’d seek me out. That a woman who reminded me of myself when I was younger would arrive in Boston. And I’d walk the Charles with her and teach her the things a woman can do in this world.” Max has a look of sadness in response.
