oh the nostalgia of being 16 in the les mis fandom and finding so much comfort in les amis, dreaming of the day you too were in your 20s and had 9 extremely close friends, who were basically your family, and who you lived within walking distance of. You would all have the energy to meet up daily, to do fun things, to do serious things, to just live together, to be yourselves together.

This fandom is really showing it’s extremely limited views on divorce today, huh. Acting like Scanlan and Pike divorcing was some one sided act of betrayal against a relationship you liked, or devalues their love, previous romantic relationship, or Scanlan’s growth, is stupid. Fun fact, people I know’s amicable divorces have made them happier and closer, it isn’t always some horrible heartbreaking scenario. Pike and Scanlan canonically had a great relationship after they divorced, it just wasn’t a romantic one. Relationships are complicated, they won’t always turn out one way or the other, and acting like they will, or them changing devalues what happened previously, is fucking stupid.

and by the way this isn't me saying "greek culture was fucked up"-- obviously the greeks did some fucked up stuff (and obviously that is reflected in some of their stories) but a LOT of what happens in greek myth is stuff greek culture did not endorse. we use stories to process our lives-- and our lives are sometimes unpredictable and difficult, and sometimes people do shitty things we don't like. sometimes we do shitty things we don't like. greek myths explain and explore that. it's not "fixing" anything to sidestep that, and it's not "feminist" to sanitize or romanticize stories about women's trauma.
