Red Card Portrait Pen Sketch 09/08/15

Scarlett Johansson

 Scarlett Johansson is a actress, model, and singer. She has appeared in such films as 'Ghost World', 'Lost in Translation', 'Match Point', 'Vicky Cristina Barcelona', 'Don Jon', 'Her', and 'Under the Skin'. She also has an album titled 'Anywhere I Lay My Head'.

Of course like most of my followers I know her best for playing Black Widow in the marvel films, 'Iron Man 2', 'Avengers', 'Captain America: The Winter Soldier', and 'Age of Ultron'. She is also set to appear in 'Captain America: Civil War' next year. Also like probably a lot of my followers, I'm looking forward to the day that Marvel announce a stand alone Black Widow movie.

W.I.P. SCARLETT JOHANSSON

 So the story of why it's taken me so long to do this portrait goes a little something like this. So several months ago I was working on this sketch, and I was understandably nervous, as always. When I found out that I would have the chance to meet someone who's portrait I would later be sketching in this project. So that's when I made my first mistake. I jumped ahead, just so I could get the person to sign my sketch of them. My second mistake, was that I then rushed said sketch, too get it complete in time. Drawing in pen by the way is something you should not rush, because the likely hood of you making a mistake and not be able to correct it increase. So I basically messed up that sketch so much I tore it out of my sketchbook and threw it away. I had such a bad experience that I just didn't work on this sketch again until now.

So what did I learn? 1) Never jump ahead of the cue again, and 2) Never, rush these sketches. That being said it's good to be working on them again. This portrait is going surprisingly well (so far). When the Scarlett Johansson card was first picked I think a lot of people expected me to draw her in a sexy pose. Although I think the pose that I've drawn is sexy, it's not in a stereotypical way. You'll see what I mean when the finished sketch is uploaded, which should be sometime soon. And after that's finished and upload I can start work on the Zachary Quinto sketch.

Winterman Doodle 30/07/15

 I did this doodle a while ago. It's taken me a long time to upload it because.....well if I'm honest, it's because I'm Lazy. Anyway the story behind this is image is one day I sat down to draw a new doodle and I had no idea what to draw. So I just decided to draw a cartoon of me thinking "What should I draw?".

Now the doodle is un-true. I know what to draw. I have plenty of things to draw. There's that commission I got to finish, and there's my secret project, and of course I'm working on the Pen Portrait sketches again. Also since this drawing I have worked on a couple new doodles.

However as much as I think an artist should draw what they want, I also think it's important to think about the desires of their audience. So to my wonderful viewers I ask this: What would you like to see me doodle in this A6 size sketchbook next?

 This is the first sketch I've done in a while that I'm actually happy with. From start to finish I had a lot of fun with this doodle, and it looks pretty much how I imagined it. Hope you guys like this sketch as much as I do.

Winterman Doodle 05/07/15

'Breaking The Rules'

 So I've decided from here on out, to ignore the rules that I made up for this doodle project. The rules about not using anything but a pen, and no using reference images. Ye forget all that.

I originally put those rules into place so this project would differ from my old daily doodles. And even though I'm a big believer in persevering even when things aren't going the way you want them too. However I'm also a big believer in realising when the thing your doing isn't working, and realising that it isn't the thing you need right now.

What I need at the moment is more doodles produced at a quick rate, and I can't do that with these rules I've created for myself. While I work on my portrait, and other secret projects, I need doodles that are quick and easy to produce. So I hope to be uploading a lot more stuff in the future.

Winterman Doodle 20/06/15

 Yes you get two uploads today for the price of one. I'm trying to make up for the lack of them, these past few weeks.

Couple of weeks ago I went to MCM London Comic-con. Bought a few things, including a Top Hat and Driving Goggles, and the reason that I did that is because I wanted to, that's why! I also decided to do this doodle based on those purchases.

Winter-man Doodle 17/05/15

 'Broken'

Before I get any messages or comments. No! There is no intended deeper meaning, or hidden message behind this image. You are welcome to interpret any idea, message, or meaning for yourself. Heck if you (the viewer) have some connection with this image, that is fantastic! But for me this is just a cool drawing I did.

So no I am not the broken silhouetted person in this image. I am not secretly damaged, nor do I have a case of a broken heart (at this moment in time). And maybe my fear that people will worry about me, after seeing this image is unfounded. But just to be clear. I thought up the image, and it's very obvious title. Drew said image, and am currently uploading it to the internet.

Winter-man Doodle 13/05/15

 Yep. Told you I was going to be drawing some pretty weird stuff. Tells you a little of how my mind works, to go from me wanting to draw something with a spiral, too goat man.

Red Card Portrait Pen Sketch 28/04/15

Matt Smith

 So for those of you who don't know Matt Smith is a British actor, who has appeared on stage, and TV and Film screens. He is set next to appear in the films Terminator Genisys and Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. Of course like everyone hopefully reading this I best know him as the eleventh actor to play the Doctor in 'Doctor Who'

In my opinion I enjoyed Matt Smith portrayal as the Doctor. He easily captured the joy, energy, and the adventurous side of the doctor from the start. Although it wasn't until later into his first series that he managed to capture the aged and tired side of the doctor. For me his doctor will always be the old man who has seen many things, and not all of them good, in the body of a still young and adventurous man. And he was the Doctor in the episode 'The Doctor's Wife' hands down still my favourite episode.

Next time Scarlett Johansson! Also I've reached my 500th post on tumblr woo. But I have of course got to finish this post with this quote.

"We all change. When you think about it, we're all different people all through our lives, and that's okay, that's good, you gotta keep moving, so long as you remember all the people that you used to be. I will not forget one line of this. Not one day. I swear. I will always remember when the Doctor was me."

Winter-man Doodles 28/04/15

 So at the start of this year I said I had three unfinished sketchbooks that I wanted to complete before the end of the year. The first being my Red Card Portrait Sketchbook. The second being the A6 sketchbook that I used to draw the Daily Doodles in.

Now I'm not bringing back Daily Doodles. Instead I'm completing this sketchbook with a new project called Winter-man Doodles. There are 3 rules that I have to stick to until I complete this sketchbook.

Rule 1) Like Daily Doodles I can draw what ever I want in this sketchbook.

Rule 2) I can only use pens. I'm not even allowed to use a pencil to do a rough sketch first. I can use photoshop but only to enhance, not alter.

Rule 3) I can't use references or draw anything that's in front of me. I therefore can not copy an already existing image. All these doodles are going to come from my deranged mind.

These are probably going to be terrible, and I'm going to make a lot of mistakes, but I don't care. This is going to be a sort of new challenge for me. Hopefully some good will come from it.

W.I.P: Matt Smith

 This sketch has made me relies how on edge I get when I'm drawing someone's portrait. That might have something to do with  me thinking that when I started this portrait, if I do a bad job, the Doctor Who fan base will kill me.

First it was a mistake to think that. It's a insult to Doctor Who fans, who are generally speaking, great. I should know cause I'm a Doctor Who fan myself. Second I get nervous no matter who I'm drawing. Will they see the sketch? Will they like it? Will they hate it? Third, I want to do the best that I can do. If I can finish a sketch with that achieved, then I'm happy with that sketch. Just need to have a little faith in my art work.

Red Card Portrait Pen Sketch 30/03/15

Angry Joe

 For those of you who don't know. Angry Joe (real name Joe Vargas) is a youtuber, gaming critic and journalist. I first saw him in the crossover films on the guy with the glasses channel. I especially enjoyed his entrance in the film Suburban Knights. I of course went on to watch and enjoy his main body of gaming critic work. W.I.P: Angry Joe

 So far this sketch is going really well. As I was telling a friend the other day, this sketch's progress is the complete opposite of the last drawing I did. Where as the Mary Elizabeth Winstead pencil sketch took ages to do. Mainly because most of the first sketches I did of her, did not look anything like her. The sketch of Angry Joe on the other hand has gone smoothly.

Not to mention the image I'm drawing from isn't that high a quality. Which kind of forces me to improvise a little bit. I'm really happy with the pose, I knew I wanted to draw this guy being angry. I mean he's called Angry Joe, how could I not draw him in this pose!

Next up after this, it's the 11th Doctor, the mad man in a box, Matt Smith!
