HEARTSTOPPER (2022)
I'm not entirely unconvinced the casting was more of an interview where the casting director went "Do you like ramen?" Followed up with "If you went to space, what would you pack?" And Ryan answered both questions appropriately
Is this a safe space to say that I found the scene from PHM where Grace is running for his life kind of funny? Like obviously internally it’s all desperation and trauma, but all I was thinking was like, what’s the end goal, my man? You’re literally running from earths hottest new onetime dictator and all of her minions, how do you think it’s going to go?
What I adore about Ryland Grace's character is that his story and development is the complete opposite of what you'd expect from the genre. Usually, there is a tough guy who needs to learn compassion in order to develop as a character and fulfill their mission.
Grace, however, already has these qualities. He doesn't need to change fundamentally because he already has the qualities needed to complete his mission. He just needs to form into the best version of himself. He needs to start believing in himself and learn to navigate through fear.
Grace doesn't need to become a tough guy to complete his mission. He just needs to get over his coward nature in order to reach his full potential. To let his already pre-existing qualities shine brightest. It was essential for the mission to have a character with great compassion and curiosity and patience at the hem. I'm sure if it was somebody else, they might not have been able to work together with an alien as efficiently.
Because at the end of the day what saves all of humanity isn't being tough, it is being kind and gentle and compassionate.
And the reason many of us resonate with him is that deep down we aren't though. We are afraid of so many things. But we need to do it scared, do it crying because if we don't, we may never morph into the very best versions of ourselves. Otherwise, we'd deny the chance to explore who we can become if we stop letting fear dictate our everyday lives.
A navy tie would look better than this one.

day 36 || gi-hun is so Loud about everything in s1 and i deeply adore it
#i personally think its super important that gi-hun killed dae-ho in such a violent and purposeful way#i think that gi-hun doing that‚ sinking to the lowest depths a person can#but he still.. comes back from that.#i think it proves the mentality of “once you get your hands dirty you can never go back” that so many characters hold to be WRONG#especially for in-ho#i also just enjoy that gi-hun isnt just “inherently better”#he falls for the manipulation that the games put everyone through#but what is important i think is that he is still able to be kind after it. hes able to find some form of recovery in finding >#> something else (jun-hee and her baby) to fight for#gi-hun will always Try. that is whats special about seong gi-hun#he wasnt a great son; he stole from his elderly mother‚ but he returned to the games for her sake#he wasnt the best father‚ but the desire to stay in contact with ga-yeong was his original reason for joining the games#he was so furious with sang-woo; he almost killed him‚ but at the last second he instead gave him his hand and begged him to leave with him#he falls into the darkest place he's ever been in after episode 2. but he still resolves to help jun-hee and her baby#and he keeps his promise to protect jun-hees baby#UGH. what an amazing character. i will never ever get over him#the show explores the complexities of human nature thru gi-hun and its so beautiful (via OP)
I don't usually do analytical posts/essays cause who am I? I'm a fucking idiot. And because I'm an idiot I will say the kinda obvious which is that The Bear is following the journey of growing from passive nihilism to active nihilism through showing Carmy being highly successful yet deeply unhappy, losing his brother and having other family trauma on top of his overall life being a shit-show where everything goes wrong thus rendering it meaningless -> to then slowly start to realize (and we're here now for next season, I believe) that the meaning has to come from within, from the things he builds and the people he builds it with. And all that can only come from healing and being around the right people and the right person who will show him and inspire him to do more and to do better instead of just accepting, someone who's brave enough to start over again after everything fails miserably and most importantly someone who believes in the meaning of what they are doing together.
And yes, this can all come from a platonic place, that's very much a possibility. But also, love is a beautiful thing and an essential part of the human existence that can make us better and more rounded as people when it's right, so that's very much a possibility as well, don't ever let anyone tell you otherwise. How it will end? That we're gonna have to wait and see and enjoy the journey, but also put in a little hope that it's not written in stone and that it will be allowed to breath and live and evolve to where it's showing us that it wants to go.
