me: iām just working at a gas station :( im not doing anything w my life :(
my foremothers bc iām not working in a field or pregnant:
I think the hardest part about addressing child abuse is getting people to acknowledge, not just intellectually but actually responding accordingly, is that the biggest threat to children, the biggest risk of abuse, is family and parents.
it is of course most often parents who are crowing about needing to protect children (often against far smaller threats than family), and pointing out that they are, statistically, the biggest threat to their kids is not gonna be received well.
tbh I feel like most of societyās rhetoric around āprotecting childrenā comes from the same place as deep-patriarchy rhetoric on āprotecting womenā, where the idea is that theyāre sacred and valuable but also treated essentially as property, and the the desire to protect them is largely experienced as a desire to ensure that those property rights are sacrosanct
Wow thats it
Hey I don't know who needs to hear this, but kids who were never taught about a subject acting like the subject they never heard about doesn't exist aren't active participants in its erasure. They are the people the erasure has been done to. Of course you know what's been done to people like you, but attacking kids about it is like beating a dog for being domesticated.
If it's "not your job to educate people", then I'm curious to know what exactly are you doing in the activism you say you're doing.
š Regular reminder that while Hozier has amazing love songs, he is ALSO very outspoken about his leftist politics, specifically anti-fascism, anti-racism, reproductive rights, Palestinian rights and more.
Take Me To Church and Foreignerās God are scathing critiques of organized religion, specifically the Catholic Church and the colonization of Ireland.
Momentās Silence is about oral sex but itās ALSO about how that specific sexual act is often distorted to a show of power rather than that of love.
Nina Cried Power is an homage to various (mostly Black) civil rights activists from the US and Ireland and a call to follow their path.
Be criticizes anti-migrant policies and Trump and his ilk.
Jackboot Jump is about the global wave of fascism and about protest and resistance.
Swan Upon Leda is about reproductive rights and the violent colonial oppression of Ireland and Palestine.
Eat Your Young is about the ruinous way the 1%/capitalism and arms dealers prioritize short-term profit over everything else to the detriment of the youth/99%
Butchered Tongue is about Irish and other indigenous languages being suppressed and erased by imperial powers.
If any of the above surprised you, please, please delve deeper into Hozierās music, youāre missing such an important part of his work.
- cherry wine is about domestic abuse. itās now called a cute proposal song.
- too sweet is about seizing the day and ignoring healthy habits in favor of having more fun with unhealthy ones. heās actively critical of himself in the song. itās now called a song about thinking youāre superior for drinking black coffee.
- take me to church is about worship as a metaphor for sex. itās called a religious song.
- eat your young is a song about war and political greed. itās called a song about sex.
- now, the strongly political message of nobodyās soldier is being ignored in favor of calling it a metaphor for hozierās relationship with his fans.
when are we going to stop simplifying hozierās music down to cute little cottagecore bogman forest music? maybe you dont want to hear this but i donāt care. quit listening to hozier for the aesthetic. thereās a reason why empire now, foreignerās god, butchered tongue, etc. songs with unignorable political messages are among his least popular songs.
bro your whimsy. you forgot your fucking whimsy. your solemn and somber attitude is scaring the hoes
Incels accuse women of being shallow and then refuse to date anywhere close to within their league. Like no, of course the millionaire supermodel does not want you. You might have had a chance with the sweet girl who works as a cashier at the 7/11 if you didnāt call her a ābutterfaceā and a āroastieā but your personality is so repulsive that you ruined that as well.
we need to make using chatgpt embarrassing bc sorry it really is. what do you mean you canāt write an email
hiā¦i just have to say if youāre questioning your gender and you think you might be trans but youāre a gay guy/lesbian and you feel like transing your gender is some sort of betrayal to the gay community well just know that itās not. you are who you are, i know itās hard to go from thinking youāre gay all your life to realizing you may be straight but, but itās okay. being straight isnāt wrong, you arenāt wrong for loving who you love.. you donāt have to censor and closet yourself to please other people. you deserve to be happy you deserve to be who you are
