Citadel Fashion Weeks 2022 (Sept 5th - Oct 2nd)

Hello Fashion Victims!

It’s that time of the year - hosted by @rawliverandcigarettes​ and @bronzeagelove​, Citadel Fashion Weeks are about to begin!

Over four weeks, we’re going to be looking at several types of Mass Effect fashion. Do you have headcanons about various races? What are the differences or similarities between them? We encourage you to let your imagination run wild, both in the Milky Way and in Andromeda!

For those who want, we’ll be providing all of you with free-to-use base models for some of the Mass Effect species. Don’t see your favorite? Don’t worry! These weeks are open to any and all races you wish to use.You can use your own characters, in-game characters, you can make text posts, in-game edits, moodboards, playlists, we accept all forms of creativity! Of course, this includes accessories like tattoos, jewelry and makeup!

These are themed weeks, which work for both the Milky Way and Andromeda species. We added in some questions to spark creativity, but feel free to go as far outside the box as you want:

Casual Week (September 5th-11th) - Clothing can be a powerful form of expression. How do people in the Mass Effect universe dress when they’re off duty? Do styles mix among those living in places like the Citadel or the Nexus? How has it changed from before and after achieving space travel?

Work Week (September 12th-18th) - The workplace doesn’t have to be dull. What do suits, lab coats, armour and uniforms look like? Do working dress codes differ between the races?

Gala Week (September 19th-25th) - We all want to dress up every once in awhile. What does formal wear look like in the galaxy? What kinds of fabrics or embellishments are used? How is formal wear used to make political statements?

Free Week (September 26th- October 2nd) - This week allows any and all kinds of creativity and fun. Ever wanted to draw a hanar in a bunny costume? See how the vorcha rock satin ballgowns? This is the week for you!!

Normandy Showdown: Pandoro vs Panettone

Every Christmas, in Italy, a war that has consumed generations erupts anew. It‘s the endless battle over supremacy between Pandoro and Panettone. Quake in fear, mortals!!

So last night, @sexy-salmon and me discussed who from the Normandy Crew would prefer what. This is our incomplete list:

Miranda, Zaeed, Ashley, Mordin, Wrex are firmly Team Panettone.

Kaidan, Thane, Liara, Joker are Team Pandoro.

Tali likes all kinds of sweets so she‘s rooting for both.

Grunt and Jack would both go for Pandoro with Nutella.

Samara‘s meditated over the issue and embraces both.

Garrus would pretend not to like either, but in the morning all that remains are suspicious traces of powdered sugar which he blames on Tali (but look, there’s sugar behind his mandibles!)

And Javik would „feel“ everyone‘s memories from their slice of Pandoro/Panettone and call them primitives.

So yeah, have more crew member suggestions for this? Let us know!

Guess what; You’re invited to our Mass Effect costume party!

It’s the start of spooky season! So, we want to see characters in costume; any OC or canon character of any species. Monster costumes, Victorian garb, 70’s getups, we want to see it all! Be as creative as you want!

You’ve got all month, so take your time and have fun! The official posting week will be Halloween week; October 24th - October 31st (Sunday to Sunday). We’ll post costume fun throughout the week as one massive week long costume party!

You can tag us in this event using #CitadelHalloweenWeek or #CitadelFashionWeek. But, since hashtags aren’t super reliable, you can tag us @citadelfashionweek to ensure that we see it! Have fun, and we can’t wait to see your costume choices!

I like the idea of something different from the epic stories written in history books and narrated by bloody heroes.

“Mass Effect: Initiation” Asari Fluff

This isn’t a comprehensive list.  I’ll add to it as I come upon more information.  Page numbers are from the iPad version of the book.

According to “Mass Effect: Initiation”, asari:

Flash their biotics as a display of postured aggression

“Their version of krogan headbutting, or turian mandible-clacking, or human and batarian fist-clenching.” (Page 16)

Aren’t all the same height and build (they can be tall and muscular)

“Plan things to death” and then “plan it some more”

Especially as Huntresses

Combine physical and academic/spiritual/philosophical training as Huntresses

Are still considered children in their 20′s

Huntresses are still considered “babies” experience-wise when they’re “only a few centuries old”

Prefer cooler climate-controlled environments

View Maidens as promiscuous

So asari do have an idea of promiscuity among their own species

Maiden promiscuity isn’t viewed in a negative light, but among asari is considered a Maiden trait

They tend to assume Maidens who are close friends are also sexual partners

View their biotics in a spiritual/philosophical way

“We are living weapons, we huntresses.”  Nisira’s deep, night-soft voice came into her head again.  “Your race is only beginning to understand what eezo can do, what the mass effect truly is, the potential of dark energy, but you came to Thessia to learn as we asari learn, so I’ll tell you.  We are gravity bound by will.”  (Page 19)

View their biotics as a natural part of their biological selves

View biotics of other species as a fusion of organic and synthetic due to the implants and amps they require

Move together in groups and at a uniform speed, leaving more personal space between each other than other species do

“She’d read somewhere that their version of politeness meant a slightly wider zone of personal space, just beyond easy melding distance.” (Page 11)

Don’t particularly mind other species coming to them to learn their customs, Huntress training included

Eat two meals a day

Hints at Thessian ingredients used in asari dishes being exceptionally calorie-rich so that these two meals contribute more to their diet

Sometimes practice polygamy

One asari has two husbands of two different species, one krogan and the other turian - the book says “husbands” specifically not “bondmates” and doesn’t mention a distinction

Are said to display some emotions and expressions with their scales

Mesh biotic fields as a practice of emotional and personal bonding, establishing a feeling of closeness and togetherness

Combine dancing and martial arts - described as being like “capoiera or tai chi”

Keeps them limber and makes them more capable of quick and deadly biotics-assisted strikes

Expounded upon in the text “Light From the Shadows” considered the asari version of “The Art of War”

This text is sometimes given to members of other species working with Huntress and Commando squads so they can better understand asari military doctrine

Cora half-jokes that asari strippers perform this martial art while dancing - they are more than capable of defending themselves without a bouncer

Sometimes dye their scalp as a fashion accessory

It’s hard to get shampoo on Thessia

This is said jokingly in reference to Cora’s hair, but it might hint that asari have other hygiene practices related to their crests that don’t involve liquid soaps

Other asari-related trivia:

Some humans call asari fetishizers “bluepies” - a play on the word “groupie” incorporating asari skin color

The word has a negative connotation

“Tranto” and “pinchesa” are asari words that indicate divisions of sections of an asari text, like “stanza” and “verse”

Cora has learned to assume all asari are referred to in the feminine after living for four years on Thessia

The idea of Liara as a broker makes no sense for me: she was an archaeologist and the key to understanding the Prothean language of Mars datacache (Mass Effect 3).

Of course, Shephard would have to pass the cipher to Liara through some ancient asari ritual (Mass Effect 2).

I always imagined my Shep to be more diplomatically inclined so her diffusing a situation using her passion for knowledge and communication  before she was really good at it was a fun thing to showcase

and I really wanted to draw a turian with a cane since forever ago when I saw the concept art for Saren lol
