Uh, good question.

shit, i love that, and yet pushing Light into a place where he felt he had nothing left to gain by playing for sympathy in spite of being in a position of no power would be so hard to sell within the bounds of his character.

you have to accelerate him through a bunch of different gates of crazy than he passed through in canon, to get him to rip off the mask and cackle where people can see him. he doesn’t even let the cackle surface where Misa can see. the freedom of expression involved here is antithetical to his whole system of existing as a person around other people, which in turn is one of the primary forces driving his villainy to begin with.

and yet at the same time he does want to be seen, that’s the force behind so many of his dramatics. there’s a tension there that you should be able to make tip over, somehow, with the correct application of forces.

but he only wants to be seen for what he is when it’s a power move, so it would take…a particular sort of anger in a very particular type of context, where twisting the emotional knife on his dad was the only sense of power he had left and for some reason there was no long game left to try to play–like he already had a death written in the Note for tomorrow or something, though he wouldn’t have arranged that this early in the game, that would be his very last-ditch get-out-of-life-in-prison option if he resorted to it at all…

ooh, maybe Misa grew her original personality back and turned on him? if Rem went after him for Misa’s sake, she wouldn’t give him a day to further incriminate her, so that can’t be it. but i like it being Misa, her extraordinarily convenient spontaneous devotion was always one of the most bullshit parts of the plot to begin with.

i kind of want to try to write it now for the challenge alone.

I really wanted to do a drawing comparison from the beginning of the decade to the end that I've been seeing on Instagram and i finished with just 2 1/2 hours to spare! so i redraw one of the first digital pictures i’d ever drew, i remember being hella proud of it lol
