Your date wasnât going well. Maybe it was doomed from the beginning or something, after the girls wouldnât stop talking about Sukuna. Maybe you were never supposed to go out with the guy at all. It started off well. But then somewhere along the way he kept talking and talking and talking and slowly veered into misogynistic comments and girls who wonât put out but expect their food to be paid for and before you knew it heâd given you the biggest ick. Youâd retreated to the bathroom, unsure what to do. Your hand tapped on your phone and you found yourself looking at Sukunaâs texts from earlier.Â
Before you could overthink it, you hit the call button, and waited.
âYou okay?â Sukuna answered.
The sound of his voice made you instantly relax.
âIâm okay,â you assured him. âIâm hiding in the toilets.â
âIâm on my way,â he said. âSend me your location.â
âIâm not in danger,â you said, sending him your location anyway. âI donât think.â
âYeah, thatâs not reassuring at all,â he scoffed.
You sighed, rubbing your hand on your forehead. How had it all gone so wrong? Youâd thought he was nice. Was it all just a lie to get into your pants?
âBrat?â Sukunaâs voice was soft and gentle.
âDid he hurt you?â There was menace in his voice, and you knew if you asked him too, Sukuna wouldnât hesitate to hurt this guy.
âNo, justâŠâ you trailed off, sighing. âHe started talking and talking and talking.â
âYeah, and somewhere along the way he got real nasty.â
âAbout women in general,â you explained. âAnd how girls that wonât put out but still want their food paid for are the worst and on and on and on.â
âExactly,â you agreed. âAnd now I just donât⊠feel safe.â
âI am five minutes away.â
âYou live twenty minutes away from the restaurant, Kuna.â
âAnd safe,â you urged. âPromise me you are being safe.â
âIâm being safe,â he promised. âI will not fail you.â
âThatâs not what I am afraid of, Kuna,â you murmured. âI donât want anything to happen to you.â
âAnd you are out with a strange man and you do not feel safe,â he replied. âI know which one I am more worried for.â
âAlright, Iâm gonna go and end the date,â you told him.
âYeah, may as well do it now, when youâll be here any minute. Hopefully youâll pull up just as Iâm leaving,â you said, stepping out of the bathroom.
âDo you want me to stay on the phone?â He offered.
âNo, itâs okay, the waiterâs been really nice and has been keeping an eye out for me.â
âGood. Call me if it gets worse, I am minutes away.â
You said your goodbyes and hung up as you made your way back to the table.
He was still there, looking impatient. He looked up as you appeared by your chair.
âFinally,â he said. âThis kind of behaviour wonât fly on our next date.â
You raised an eyebrow at him in disbelief. Did he seriously think he was going to get a second date? After this disaster of a one?Â
âThe waiterâs bringing the bill,â you told him, hovering uncertainly by your chair.Â
âGood,â he said. âWhatâs wrong with you? Sit down.â
âNo, thank you,â you said politely. âIâll just wait for the bill and then we can go our separate ways.â
He stared at you for a moment.
âIâm not gonna pay for you if youâre not gonna put out.â
You sighed. âI can pay for myself, thanks.â
He looked you up and down before turning away dismissively, but you didnât miss the way he clenched his jaw and his fist. âWhatever.â
You stood in silence for an uncomfortable minute.
The waiter approached your table finally.
You tried to settle up your amount, but he had other ideas and began arguing with the waiter about the bill. You tried to get him to stop, but he turned on you and the waiter shook his head and sent a waitress over to escort you out. Just as you stepped outside, Sukuna pulled into the parking lot, the roar of his bike drowning out any sound. He yanked his helmet off, leaving it on the seat and rushing to your side. His hands went to your hips to steady you, and you leaned your forehead against his chest.
âThank fuck youâre here,â you said gratefully.Â
âIâm here, princess, Iâm here,â he said, pulling you into his arms properly.Â
âHeâs in there yelling at the waiter and I kept trying to pay but he kept getting angrier and I just-â
âItâs fine, Iâll sort it, donât worry,â Sukuna assured you.Â
He moved back, his hand coming out to grasp your chin gently, tilting your head so he could meet your eyes comfortably.Â
âTell me the truth,â he ordered. âAre you okay?â
You let out a huff of air. âIâm fine physically. A bit shaken up. Really glad youâre here, Kuna, and now I just want to go home.â
His red eyes met yours, and there was a steady, comforting warmth in them that had you relaxing properly into his embrace.Â
âAlright, Iâll sort this and then weâll go, okay?â
You nodded. âThank you, Kuna.â
âAnytime, princess. Anytime.â
Sukuna strode into the restaurant, yanking open the door and looking for your unfortunate date. Unfortunate, because he had upset you, and Sukuna would kill for you. He didnât have to look long, the yelling alerted him to the guy, who was screeching at the waiter, trying to be threatening and failing. Sukuna didnât bother speaking to him.Â
âThe woman he was with,â he began, before he was interrupted by the asshole.
âHey! I was here first!â
âShut. Up.â Sukuna glared at him, over six foot of solid muscle looming over him. He turned back to the waiter. âThe woman he was with, Iâm here to pay her part of the bill.â
He settled up your bill, and was about to leave when the asshole accosted him. It was like he didnât know what was good for him.Â
âSo she sends her boyfriend in to take care of it,â he sneered. âShould have known she was a whore.â
Sukuna took a couple of very deep breaths.Â
You would be upset if he hit the guy. If he pressed charges it could mess up his hockey career. As long as he kept his mouth shut and didnât say anything else, Sukuna could control his temper.
He turned back to the asshole.
âCall her that again, and Iâll make you regret learning to use that lump of muscle you call a tongue,â he warned, his voice a low growl.Â
The asshole took a step back, intimidated.
Job done, Sukuna left the restaurant.Â
He found you waiting anxiously outside, the moment you spotted him you ran to him, and he wrapped you in his arms. He always felt better when you were close, and he felt the last of the anger draining away.Â
âYou okay?â He checked.
âBetter now youâre here,â you told him.Â
He smiled. âCâmon, letâs get out of here.â
He helped you put the helmet heâd bought you months ago on, before climbing onto his bike. You climbed on behind him, arms wrapping tightly around his waist. He took off, and you let the wind rushing by whisk away the last of your fear. You were with Sukuna, and that meant you were safe.
He took you back to his place, despite the frat house being occupied by a lot of guys, you felt comfortable there since you knew everyone and had been there plenty of times before. Sukuna took you up to his room, and you sat on his bed after kicking your heels off.Â
You sighed. âWhat a waste of a dress.â
Sukuna took you in properly.Â
He hadnât been looking at what you were wearing, too busy making sure you were okay. But now, now he got a good look at you. He was suddenly glad he hadnât taken in the full effect of your outfit at the restaurant. He definitely would have hit the asshole. He gets a girl as beautiful as you to go on a date with him, and you turn up looking like Aphrodite herself and he has the audacity to scare you?Â
Yeah, he would not have been able to stop hitting him.
âYou look beautiful,â he told you.Â
You smiled at him, the one you reserved for only him. You never smiled at anyone else like that, heâd noticed. Soft, and warm, and only for him.
âThank you, Kuna,â you said. âTurned out to be a waste, but hey, the food was good!âÂ
He chuckled, coming to sit beside you on his bed. âIâll take you somewhere next time you decide you want good food, okay?â
âIâll hold you to that,â you told him.
âGood, you do that, pretty girl.â
He watched as you ducked your head and he grinned.
Heâd make sure your next date was so good you forgot all about this one.
I love this chapter, its one of my favourite things I've ever written. I may be a sucker for protective guys that are assholes to everyone except their loved ones đ€ this scene popped into my head almost fully formed, I had the image of sukuna coming to Reader's rescue in my mind when planning this fic so writing it came super easy.
Let me know what you think!
