Mother’s Harrowing Ordeal Revealed: Cassandra Vonnegut Speaks Out on Digital Harassment, Custody Disputes, and Personal Injustice
Ballston Spa, NY – July 28, 2025 – Cassandra Vonnegut, author of the memoir Alexanna’s Tree, is breaking her silence about a years-long ordeal of emotional turmoil, digital intrusion, and legal heartbreak linked to her former partner and father of her child, Mikhail. Her experience shines a light on the devastating consequences of unchecked harassment, unjust custody proceedings, and the emotional manipulation that can exist within failed co-parenting relationships.
Cassandra's story began in 2023, shortly after moving to Ballston Spa, NY, with her 9-year-old daughter, Alexanna. Hoping for a fresh start, she purchased a mobile home and tried to build a stable life. Mikhail, her daughter’s biological father, soon became engaged to a woman in the same town. Despite their past marked by domestic disturbances Cassandra continued to support his relationship with their daughter through regular visits and communication.
However, early 2024 marked the beginning of an alarming chain of events. Cassandra began receiving threatening and explicit text messages, including private images that were only accessible through her personal digital accounts. Her email, iCloud, and Samsung accounts some of which were connected to her daughter's devices had allegedly been compromised.
After reporting the breaches to local law enforcement, Cassandra claims a sheriff’s deputy discouraged her from uploading the evidence to an official portal and instead extracted her entire phone drive to his personal device. This left her feeling more exposed than protected.
As harassment escalated, Cassandra attempted to obtain a restraining order. Her request was denied, while Mikhail was granted one an order she says has been used repeatedly to incarcerate her over non-threatening messages. One of the most painful moments was discovering that her daughter had received impersonated text messages appearing to be from Cassandra, further straining their bond. A phone carrier later confirmed that a spoof texting application had been in use.
Cassandra also discovered through a court-ordered evaluation that a school counselor had previously filed multiple reports with CPS regarding Mikhail reports she was never informed of. Despite this, she was flagged in the CPS system without ever being shown evidence. Her fair hearing request was denied, compounding her frustration and emotional distress.
Adding to the trauma, Cassandra states her personal medical records were accessed and distributed without her permission. Emails containing mental health information and false accusations were allegedly sent to Mikhail, further damaging her legal position and emotional well-being.
Cassandra believes that systemic failures, privacy violations, and the manipulation of legal procedures have unjustly separated her from her daughter. 'It feels like I’ve been erased as a mother,' she says. 'I’m not just fighting for myself I’m fighting for every woman who has been silenced, dismissed, or digitally violated in plain sight.'
Her memoir, Alexanna’s Tree, documents these lived experiences not just as a narrative of survival, but as a call to attention. Cassandra uses her writing to provide insight into the challenges mothers face when the legal and digital systems fail to protect them. The book is available on Amazon and serves as both personal testimony and public documentation.
