Hamartia comes from the Greek verb hamartanein, meaning "to miss the mark." Aristotle used the word in his Poetics to refer to the error of judgment which ultimately brings about the tragic hero's downfall.

smallville clark crashing out after lex's death (which leaves behind a corpse because i say so) and he's pushed away everyone he loves to be superman 24/7, only stopping to return to the fortress of solitude, where he keeps lex's corpse in suspended animation to keep it from rotting. he wraps it in blankets while he's gone and plays music so lex doesnt get bored. shares a bed with lex's corpse every time he sleeps, because he doesnt want lex to be cold or lonely or touch-starved. he completely ceases to be clark kent and becomes superman because being a person get him hurt too badly, having connections just means getting emotionally gutted, because he feels like it was all his fault for fighting destiny for so long. the only time he's clark anymore is when he's in the fortress with the corpse, and even then sometimes he's more superman than clark.

but like his friends and family that he's pushed away dont know about lex's corpse. they think he died, his corpse went missing, and then clark went insane on everybody in a fit of grief, and now they need to find him and convince him to come back to them. and break the news that he both missed lex's funeral, and also the funeral happened with an empty coffin because they couldnt find the body. they decide they need to, essentially, hold an intervention for him, not knowing that he has lex's body

and they find him and corner him to talk to him, and someone gently tells him not to freak out because they couldnt bury lex cuz they couldnt find the body. and he's like "no i know where lex is. lex stays home with me. ok now leave me alone i dont want to talk to any of you" and they all go ohhhHhhhh ok. ok. this is. this is Really Bad. oh god this is Really Really Bad
