I want them to argue. I want them to be sad. I want them to worry. I want there to be tension. Because that’s what a relationship is. They can love each other, but that doesn’t mean they get along or are happy all the time. It’s perfectly normal for people to be sad and worried or fight. Gloria is the leader of the Spanish Harlem (seen as a mother figure by them) and she runs the kitchen inside of Litchfield Penitentiary. She is doing her time for committing food-stamp fraud in the store she owned. When she was a free woman, she was a victim of domestic abuse perpetrated by his boyfriend, but after he hit her son she decided to run away with the money she had saved, and failed. In prison, she became strong-willed and determined; Gloria doesn’t take anybody’s shit and has made clear that she doesn’t want a part in any organized crime inside of Litchfield. She is a mother of four, and an expert in performing santería.
