I think it should be considered a form of degendering to try to divorce trans people from their gendered histories. My gender doesn't make sense without the fact that I was a little boy, or something like it, before I was a girl and a woman. If you were always a girl, thats awesome, but a lot of people project their dysphoria onto me when I try to talk about my own fucking life. If you think talking about having been a boy makes me less of a woman, that is degendering.

It is the most blatant type of transmed bullshit to be like "there is only one valid kind of trans experience and it's the one I feel," and this discourse should have been left in 2014.

Like yes, obviously for cis people who are still in gender 101 it's fine to say "trans people have always been their gender"

But obviously the more complicated thing you learn in gender 102 is that trans people define their own experiences differently. Some are comfortable describing themselves as "I used to be x, then I became y." Others feel they have always been one gender. Some others feel they choose their own gender, or have multiple transitions. NONE of these descriptors are trans people misgendering themselves.

Gender is fluid anyway. If a trans person says they used to be a different gender, then they used to be that gender. You are not actually helping by insisting people are wrong about the gender they are or the gender they said they were.

both trans men and trans women are punished for our proximity to both feminity and masculinity. people decide when we are men or women based on what is the WORST option at the moment. we both get treated like women only when someone needs to infantalize us or call us bossy, bitchy, stupid, vapid. we both get treated like men when someone wants to demonize and paint us as violent, predatory, abusive, perverted. This is the type of post I've been waiting to see. It's really frustrating to see all this discourse around our experiences. When you get off the Internet and into your real life community, what do you want to see? What I want to see is solidarity, because we've all been unfairly villified. I'm the proud boyfriend of a trans girl and I love her, I would never ever wish ill upon her or anyone within the transfem community. I see her struggles every day, right alongside my own. She has the same empathy towards me. This needs to be more common in my opinion. We are stronger together, and our unique perspectives build a stronger community and should be respected.
