this was simply meant as a way to say "you need dysphoria to be trans." yes, i understand that people without depression can take anti-depressants, for anxiety and such. yes, i understand that people without asthma may need to use an inhaler. yes, i understand that people may go to rehab to visit people with addictions, and may not have one themselves. this all makes sense in my argument, since some people also may need to take hormones who are not trans.

stop trying to be creative by using any of this as an argument, because i understand all of it. i was simply pointing out the various things listed as doing their main purpose to someone who doesn't need that main purpose. this was mainly just an argument against "non-dysphoric trans people."

no i wasn’t depressed, i didn’t show signs of it yet. my doctor prescribed me anti-depressants to treat my ANXIETY. most anti-depressants are fda approved to treat anxiety. anti-depressants can also treat ibs, neuropathic pain, insomnia, bipolar disorder, and adhd. it’s almost like many forms medicine…especially the popular ones… are used to soothe and treat multiple disorders… i’m pretty sure my doctor wasn’t “stupid” considering i would think he knows more about medicine and mental health than tumblr user just-a-simple-trans-ally.

However, that doesn’t mean I’m shitting all over people who identify as non-dysphoric. I ain’t here to shit on anyone else or tell them how to identify. Why? Because misinformation is a big factor in why some people think of themselves as non-dysphoric.

What I am here to do is expell the myth that dysphoria = self hatred, because it doesn’t.

Dysphoria IS:

The mismatch between your sex (what you were physically born as) and your gender (how you identify/see yourself)

That’s it. That’s all dysphoria is.

Dysphoria is NOT:

Feeling miserable in your own body

Self hatred

Something that everyone experiences in the same way

Dysphoria CAN lead to feelings of hopelessness, self hatred and feeling miserable, and - despite being a common representation of dysphoria - this is not the only way to experience Dysphoria.

Not experiencing dysphoria in this way doesn’t make you non-dysphoric, it just means your experience with dysphoria is different from that of others, and that’s okay.

If you have a disconnect between your sex and your gender, you are dysphoric, you are trans.

If that mismatch makes you miserable, you’re dysphoric, you’re valid, you are trans.

If that mismatch makes you experience gender euphoria instead, you are still dysphoric, you’re valid, and you’re trans.

Literally the only thing that makes you non-dysphoric is not having the disconnect between your body and how you perceive yourself. And without that, you aren’t trans, you’re cis.

You can’t be trans without dysphoria - the disconnect between your sex and gender. You can’t feel like a boy/girl/enby in the wrong body if you don’t have Dysphoria/the mismatch between your sex and gender, because that’s what would cause that feeling.

It isn’t a hard fucking concept to grasp. If you don’t have that disconnect, you wouldn’t feel like a man/woman/enby in the wrong body.

Where do you get the definition that dysphoria is a mismatch between sex and gender? Because the DSM says dysphoria is the distress caused by that mismatch. Distress doesn’t have to be selfhate, and it does vary between different people.

But i think the DSM is a good enough source for the definition of dysphoria.

there's a lot of confusion on what that means, but to sum it up, it's feeling like the gender inside your brain doesn't match your body. distress can come along with it, which is why many get those two confused.

Why I’m a “Tucute”

This post may get hate, but whatever. I don’t think you need gender dysphoria to be trans. However, if I found enough reliable resources showing otherwise, I would change my opinion.

Gender dysphoria is a mental illness. It has diagnostic criteria, just as any other mental illnesses. One of the most important diagnostic criteria is significant distress and/or impairment. So, there is no such thing as “minor dysphoria”. I also don’t believe that there is one right way to be trans. Everyone has a different upbringing and experience, so expecting all trans people to be the same is absurd. From what I’ve seen, the majority of truscum/transmeds have a very toxic and harmful outlook on being trans ( as in implying you must suffer to be trans ).

However, if you are a transmed, I won’t hate you. We might disagree, but that’s okay. As long as we both don’t harm people and push our beliefs down each other’s throats. At the end of the day, it doesn’t matter to me where you stand, because you are allowed to have your own opinions.

it’s feeling a disconnect. you don’t feel like yourself. you feel like the person in the mirror is not you.

now. why do you need it to be trans?

if you feel this level of distress, discomfort, and disconnect, you will certainly want to change your body, through hormones and surgeries.

if you don’t feel this level of distress, discomfort, and disconnect, why would you want to change? it’s just a hassle. it’s not fun from what i’ve heard from every trans person i know. it’s expensive and dysphoria makes them hate themselves.

if you only feel mild distress, you are not trans. this distress will wear off in due time. if you jump the gun and transition and get on hormones right away, you will be given actual dysphoria, and you will regret the entire thing.

non-dysphorics (aka cis people) need to stop spreading this lie that dysphoria is not required to be trans. this will lead to the government not funding surgeries, which will very well lead to suicide rates rapidly increasing within the trans community.

this is why non-dysphoric “trans” people are very harmful and toxic to the trans community. you need dysphoria to be trans, and if you don’t support this ideology, you are doing a lot of harm.
