whit: "i just always remember, being in pittsburgh, like 'richards put a boycott on the media.'"😭mike tells the story about how he gave one word answers to the media after they put out a piece saying the flyers were partying too much even though they were on like a ten game winning streak (55:05).
whit re the trade: "i remember talking to my buddy and saying, 'oh man, richie went to LA and his boy went to columbus,'" (jfc whit (1:01:04)
mike's agent told him about this pending trade to LA the night before the 2011 draft, and was like "we could probably fight this if you want." and mike re that: "i was just like, you know, it is what it is. if they don't want me, that's fine. i'll move on, and going to LA wasn't a bad thing either. so i called jeff, and was like, 'well, good news and bad news. good news is, i don't think you're being traded. and the bad news is i'm probably getting traded to LA'. so i think it was the next morning i got traded, it was official. so i called him and was like, 'i got traded to LA,' and got off the phone and within like, maybe two minutes, he called me back and i was like, 'yo what's up?'. he's like, 'i just got traded to columbus.' i was like, 'shit. sorry man.'"(1:01:45)
mike when asked if dry island debacle could've been a factor in the trades: "yeah, yeah it could've. i know laviolette and i didn't get along very well. he always thought of prongs as the captain, even though i had the C... and that dry island thing was such a joke." (1:03:42).
"i won't comment on that," when asked about dean lombardi and him now (1:08:40).
talks about how he knew about jeff potentially getting traded to LA a week before because he got approached by lombardi or hextall doing a background search, asking him like what's jeff like, etc. (1:11:00)
"so i called jeff, and i think [lombardi or hextall] asked how he would feel playing the wing. and before i even got it out of my mouth, he's like 'yes! yes, anything. i'll play goaltender if you get me out to LA'. yeah, so i knew a few days in advance, and then when it actually happened, he lived with me for the rest of that year. so we were roommates for a bit, and obviously it worked out. re the 2012 scf: "we played jersey in the finals, but jersey beat out philly. so like, jeff and i were like, kinda nervous that we were going to be playing philly in the finals, because it just would've been like, awkward, and like tough." (1:17:29)
biz tells a story when he played with mike on the manchester royals that mike had this hoodie where he would keep m&m's in the front pouch all the time, because they had an m&m machine in the training room (??) and mike would eat like 6-7 packs before games (???) and mike: "i have a sweet tooth, everyone knows that." and he would just grab a couple every time he walked by and the m&m budget that year probably "tripled or quadrupled" (1:27:04).
when asked about "The Shift" and if he gets asked about that a lot: "i get a lot of comments on my instagram about it, or like tagged in it a lot. yeah, to be honest at the time, i didn't even think anything of it and then when you watch it again a few years later, kinda get chills." (1:31:23).
