Mermaid’s Breath Spell  💋

a spell for the ability to survive in emotional or situational circumstances a bit out of your depth or comfort zone, like a fish out of water.

💋  gather: sea water, stormwater, aventurine, a seashell, and a blue candle

💋  embed the candle with the aventurine and light it. 

💋  mix the sea and storm water, and fill the seashell with it

💋  blow the candle out and pass the seashell through the smoke. chant:

“ Aquea pulmonem there: Come winds of the Caspian Sea Demersi sunt in aere, tenere spiritum, La spiritus to me.”

💋  place the seashell somewhere safe to hold the water until the spell is over.

A Setback

I have to give major props to the nurse practitioner I see for weight loss counseling. I had a significant weight gain (over 5 pounds, I’m not really sure exactly how many as I was afraid to ask) and the first thing he asked was if I had any difficulties going on in my life. I told him yes, my depression is increasing for the first time in 12 years and I’m dealing with separating from my spouse. And he told me that since my sleep is erratic and my body is giving off cortisol due to stress, my ability to lose weight is pretty much shit right now. So, he said to do my best to maintain until I see him again, but to take care of my depression and personal issues and not focus on my weight right now. This is the same nurse who talked me down from a bad anxiety attack in his office. He rocks.

Homemade General Tso's chicken. It's a pretty healthy recipe. I'm trying really hard to get back on track. Last week there was 16 boxes of free GS cookies in the house. The lap-band does not deter me from eating those. I also ate dinner out every day. I ate a lot of junk. Today I meal planned and went shopping.

A bit of a hiatus

I haven't posted anything weight loss related or any recipes in quite awhile. I am dealing with serious personal issues right now so everything else in my life is on the back burner.

one word spells

As long as you can focus your energy and set your intention your spell should work, so I’ve designed these 5 spells using just one word for a Witch who needs a quick fix.

Mariquil

Pronounced mar-e-quil

Used to calm a temper or an upset person. From the latin word for sea, mare, and the english word tranquil. Essentially you are calling the sea inside them to be still. For better results cast with wet hands.

Univert

Pronounced Uni-var

Used for faster transport. I use it at the train station to have a shorter wait time but really its designed for traffic lights. By combining uni from universe and vert,the french word for green, you’re essentially asking the universe to make your path green.

Visididen

Pronounced Vis-e-did-en

Used to go unnoticed or invisible. Taken from the english words vision and hidden. For best results chant it softly while visualising yourself turning transparent.

Lapagna

Pronounced Lap-ag-na

Used when you just need someone to shut the f**k up but are too polite to say so. Taken from the Latin words lapis and magna, meaning stone and voice. For best results hold a stone or some earth while casting, if they’re really pissing you off just throw the stone or dirt at them.

Bavarignis

pronounced Bav-are-ig-ni

Used to strike up a conversation or to continue a conversation. Taken from the French word bavarder, which means chat, and the Latin word ignis, which means fire. Basically you’re asking for the conversation to spark or catch fire. For best results flick a lighter in your pocket or light a match.

A Midnight Ritual if You Cannot Sleep Because You Are Worrying About a Confrontation or Crisis in the Morning

You will need:

A dark-blue candle

A small bowl of salt

Paper and a pen

A bowl of soil

A small, lidded plastic container

A blue pen

Timing:

Midnight, called the time of the dark sun, indoors or in the garden.

The spell:

Light the candle and, looking into the flame, say: “The dark sun across the word does shine, but let all be peaceful in this place of mine.”

Sprinkle a few grains of salty into the flame, saying: “The sun will rise again at dawn, ‘til then I consign all fear ‘till morn.”

On the paper, write over and over again the fears and the worries that are troubling you. Tear off just a corner and singe it in the candle flame. (Have a bowl of soil ready in case it catches fire.)

Extinguish the candle, and put the folded paper and the singed corner, burned or not, into a small plastic container in the freezer.

Dispose of the plastic container and its contents the next morning.

Over the slump, I hope

I am down 4.5 pounds from my last visit so basically I lost the weight I gained at my last two appointments. This is very encouraging. I don't feel quite so hopeless anymore. I found recipes for slow cooker meals to freeze and make later. It took two hours and I was exhausted afterwards but it will be great when I don't have to cook during the week. Also I'll be less tempted to go out and eat unhealthy food because I don't want to cook.

Coming up on a year

Ugh...dreading my appointment tomorrow. I'm also sick of people's advice. When I say I'm struggling with weight despite having lap-band surgery, inevitably the next thing out of their mouth is, "well have you tried X?" Gee, no, thanks for the tip. Having surgery and going to weight loss counseling isn't working but I'm sure you have the solution. I'm sure the millions of obese people out there would be fit if they just listened to you.

Shit My Husband Says

I came back from my annual exam at PP today. He asked if they gave me the condoms for having a PAP. I said I just had a breast exam. He says, "some strange guy touched your breasts?" I said no, it was an old German lady. "Oh. Cool!"

A Little Perspective

Looking back at last week's meltdown, over a two pound weight gain, I've come to realize that this is a huge trigger for my depression and anxiety. That's something I definitely need to work on in therapy. The shooting yesterday in Orlando made me think. I haven't talked much about it and I've avoided much of the media coverage. And then it occurred to me- I used to go dancing at a gay club in Pittsburgh all the time. Like weekly, for the last two years I was in college. I could have been shot and killed just for being there. And even though attitudes have changed a lot in 20 years, there are people in my life who have no idea I'm bi, and I'll probably never tell them, either. I'm just not that brave. I have enough problems without creating new ones, so for now I'm on a need to know policy.

Another Setback

I am feeling so frustrated right now! I just had another appointment at my surgeon's office for weight loss counseling. I'm up 2 pounds. I didn't have a meltdown like my last appointment, but I was still very upset. I see the nurse practitioner and he's aware of my mental health issues and does a great job being mindful of it. Still, these visits are uncomfortable. I was in a bad mood when I got home and my husband when into critical mode immediately. I told him he's not being supportive and that I didn't want to discuss it with him. He only left me alone for about 10 minutes then brought it up again. I told him again I was not discussing it. He said not to blame him, that it's all on me. At this point I left the house. I never once blamed him. I said he wasn't being supportive, which is true. And he DOES sabotage me, all the time. This has been a hard week in general. I got attached to many of the students I work with and had to say goodbye to them. My therapist is out of town and I don't feel like I have anyone I can talk to.
