The birds were chirping at your bedroom window. You laughed at that, knowing Yae would have a blast chasing them around once she was up. The melodious chuckling that left your mouth caused Yae to stir, she normally wouldn’t wake up to random noise, but she knew it was you. Should there really be more questions?
You found it adorable, the way she stretched her limbs, you likened it to a puppy. And she noticed you staring, so with a teasing look, she whispered “My, my, little one.. your gaze is quite too intense this early in the morning.”
Yae stared at you, her arms coming to wrap themselves around your torso. She pulled you in by the neck to give you a slow, sweet kiss. Nuzzling her forehead to yours afterwards. She gave you tiny pecks all over your face, adoring how your eyes held nothing but love for her.
She giggled at your lovestruck face, booping your nose as hers scrunched.
“What do you want for breakfast?” You asked, Miko didn’t reply. Squishing your cheeks with two of her fingers, she made her teeth click against each other,
“Your cheeks look delightful, how about I get a taste of that,” you were about to roll your eyes when she whispered, “Up to you to decide which one though,”
“Miko!” You groaned with a blush. Stark crimson spreading to your cheeks as the fox envoy laughed at your flustered state. Her hand coming to rest near her lips. You continued to glare at her, she gave you a kiss to lift your mood, her ears folding in delight.
“I hate you, you know that.” She caressed your cheek, relishing in your current embrace. “I hate you so much,”
“Mhm,” you could only agree. Finding the way her legs tangled themselves with yours ironic.
“No I do, because you gave me something that’d be so painful to lose,” she snickered with a sly smirk. You giggled as well, looking at her piercing violet gaze.
You nuzzled your nose to hers, scrunching them. “You always tell me that,” you laughed, eyes crinkling at the ends. “And you were right.”
A snap. “What?”
“Wake up Miko.”
The head Shrine Maiden jolted awake. Chest chasing heavy breaths, beads of sweat racing against each other down her porcelain face. Her delicate fingers touched her cheek only to find herself startled at the presence of silent tears that continued to cascade from her reddening irises. It couldn’t be,
It was all just a dream,
She reluctantly turned to your side of the bed with dread, her worst nightmare catching up to her. You were gone. Y/N, her sweet Y/N, had left her. With terrible damage to her already broken heart that no one could ever mend.
As her eyesight traced the sheets where you once slept, she was reminded of the day where her life came crashing down.
You were part of an enormous village fire while visiting a different nation. And instead of saving yourself, you, her selfless love, chose to rescue the others first. There weren’t any casualties, only you.
And that day she found out, that moment, Yae felt like she could destroy the entirety of Tevyat with a wave of her hand. And she wanted to. A huge wave of electro surged from Mt. Yougou, they’ve felt different wavelengths of electro before considering it’s Inazuma, but the one that reverberated throughout all the islands was nothing they’ve ever seen before. Windows and glass from the Grand Narukami Shrine shattered in a blink of an eye, and a bloodcurdling scream was heard echoing from the mountain's peak.
Thankfully there weren’t any visitors, and the shrine maidens were ushered to safety while the shrine itself was closed until further notice. That never happened before in all the generations since it’s been there, there hadn’t been a good enough reason to. Only now, only you.
Yae found it so bitterly ironic. But she had no one to tell it to now, her incessant teasing and playful laughter came to a halt the moment your existence in this dull world did, you were the one who brought joy to anything she did after all. But no matter. You will forever flourish in her heart and in the novels she wrote for as long as Yae Miko ever lived, and as she’ll always love you, the hatred she holds for you will also remain tenfold. For how cruel were you to take the one thing she couldn’t live without.
