Trouble || AU

Damn the man for toying with his emotions like that! Eren felt distant anger rise in his chest and he clenched his hands by his side as he stared at him, narrowing his eyes. It had been his own fault for losing that bracelet and he thought he’d been over it until he’d spotted the stranger earlier. There was no way he could buy it back, that much was certain and every time he would subconsciously reach for his wrist to toy with the leather he jolted as he remembered he no longer possessed it. The raven-haired had probably traded it for food or money already anyway.

“Fine!”, the teen huffed and reached out for one of the cards. For a brief moment he mulled over the idea of grabbing Levi’s wrist just as he had done the day before and loudly demand his bracelet back. It had been stolen after all and even if he didn’t get it back, he could get the other arrested. The word of a respectable doctor’s son against a street rat’s weighted a lot more after all.

The bitter thought was dismissed immediately after; Eren wasn’t like that. He toyed with the idea but he felt bile rise in his throat at it.

“What do I do now?”, he quietly asked, voice wavering slightly at his inner turmoil.

                   It was when Eren pulled out the card, he focused on the back of it. It would be hard for most to see, but for each card, there was a little spot on the pattern that would tell what it is, based on the card he picked out. 

                                          Counting in his head silently, he offered the deck of cards once more.

                                       "--Put it back."

Once Eren had done so, his hands worked at the cards, shuffling them quickly, eyes focusing on finding the same pattern, when he did, there was a movement far too fast for the eye to see clearly.

       Holding up the card, it was the exact one Eren had picked out. Along with that -- his bracelet dangled around both Levi's hand and the card.

                                       A smirk filled his face.

"Are these yours?"

                               Levi was trying his best not to chuckle, because he knew if he did, he could cough. Not only that, but with his own pale skin, beads of sweat were forming on his face. -- It seemed he was getting worse; yet he couldn't allow himself to cough in front of others.

If he hadn’t known better Eren would have gone as far as saying that Levi seemed genuinely surprised at his reply which made his smile falter just ever so slightly as he blinked in confusion. He almost wanted to take back the words that had been spoken with rushed excitement but the brunette thought better of it; it was the truth and there was nothing wrong about having looked forward to this day. For as long as they’d known each other they had been tip toeing around each other, not quite admitting that they valued each other’s presence but not denying it either. Funny if one remembered the first time they had met.

“That seems like a really good idea.”, the green-eyed grinned then and gave a small laugh that almost sounded like a giggle. Which was nonsense because Eren definitely didn’t giggle, not even from the giddiness bubbling in his chest and making him feel slightly dizzy. He was just too excited to be spending the day with Levi that he wasn’t able to keep his anticipation in check.

“Ah- yes, of course.” Feeling his ears grow hot Eren reached for the bunch of roses and looked at them properly this time. He’d been too distracted by the way the other had dressed up for their ..date? Well, now that he thought about it, this was probably what it was.

“I’ll just-” He turned around only to realize he had closed the door behind himself and with a quiet but embarrassed moan he knocked on the door for someone to let him in. Luckily it was neither his father or sister that opened the door and as he shoved the bunch of roses into his mother’s arms, he quietly told her to put them in a vase and that he’d be back tonight. Curious glances were thrown at Levi but to Eren’s relief that was about it and the woman retreated back inside. He quietly thanked her for not being to nosy though he would have bet his favourite everything that she would watch them through a window.

“Okay.”, he sighed and turned around, offering a brief grin. “Lead the way.”

It was when the boy turned to go give his mother the flowers, as she glanced at him, he glanced back at her. There was a small nod, hopefully telling her something along the lines of 'I'll return him safely'.  But it was when Eren had his attention back at himself, Levi offered a small smile, taking a couple of steps and expecting him to follow.

"I hope you don't mind that we have to go through the shitty underground city...But, it'll only be for a bit. -- And of course, I'll make sure no one will as so touch or hurt you." There seemed to be a waft of protectiveness in his voice, but he coughed to try and cover that up.  Humming to himself for a moment, he kicked a lone pebble and tried to think.

"Hey Eren -- Wanna play a game? Its were we just stupidly ask each other questions...Or just talk about ourselves. -- Nothing too personal though." The grey hues looked over at Eren, staring into the beautiful pools of green. Idly, this was just so he could get to know Eren more, after all, its a start. Right?

Like it or not, Levi started off this little game. "You don't have to ask; I am just stating this boring quality of mine -- But I have asthma. Unsure of how, probably due to the shitty air conditions and that...Or I was just born that way. Who knows." Breaking his glance away from Eren, a shrug lifted from his shoulders.

"Anyway. My question for you is -- What's your favourite colour?"
