"I hope you aren't planning to leave without breakfast!" MJ calls from the kitchen where she's making coffee when she sees Bob trying to sneak quietly down the stairs in the morning.
@mj-watson-parker
Bob freezes mid step, suddenly feeling so very nervous. Not that he did anything bad... But it felt like it, for some reason. He slowly turned around, closing the door again. "I... I didn't want to make any trouble." He replied, approaching the kitchen with the most scared animal expression possible.
MJ turns from the counter, holding out a mug of coffee she just poured to offer it to him. "No trouble all! Here. I'd hate to see someone leave on an empty stomach. Unless you have somewhere to be...?" She's in a long silk robe over a maternity nighty, looking fresh faced. MJ is a morning person in all the ways that Peter isn't.
He stares at her for maybe moment too long. Not in a creepy way. It's just... Nice to put a face to a name finally. Of course he still didn't catch her name but he assumed there was only one pregnant lady in the house.
Okay Bob focus.
He carefully took the mug from her, finally lowering his gaze to focus on the coffee. "No, I don't..." He started, shifting a bit. For some reason he felt caught red handed. Even if he was not doing anything bad. "Peter wasn't able to fall asleep... We just cuddled, I promise, sorryâ"

Peter sends Bob a portal to come join him in his bedroom. He's sitting at his computer that's on his workbench, though, still tweaking a simulation experiment. The glow of the screen is lighting up his face, the only other light in the room is a lamp by the bed.
@bstandsforbabydaddy
Bob stares at it for a moment before finally stepping in, dressed all comfy, like usual, this time with addition of fluffy socks.
"you're still working?" He asks with a small yawn, stopping just behind him, peeking at the screen. Maybe he doesn't understand much from it but he's still curious about what keeps Peter up so late at night.
Peter blinks up at him, then smiles apologetically.
"Uh. Yeah. Sorry. We have these super powerful machines on campus, I can VPN to them and run experiments but it's hard to get time during the day...so middle of the night is the best work, sometimes..."
He clicks and types a few more things. "I'm shutting it down now, I promise..."
Bob just rests his chin against his shoulder, watching the screen. He felt quite clingy.. but can you really blame him when they agreed to have a cuddly sleepover?
"VPN to them?" He repeated, tilting his head, brows furrowed. "What are you working on right now?"
Peter smiles when Bob rests his chin on his shoulder. He likes how comfortable it feels. He leans his head to the side slightly so their temples bump, but he's still looking at the screen.
"Yeh. It's like a portal to another computer. So I can control the supercomputers on campus from here. I'm coding a multiverse simulation. We're trying to calculate the actual number of universes...so far we've gotten to 10 to the power of 7,369 before the simulation broke. Now think I know what variable I need to tweak next..." He grins excitedly, like this is the best thing that's happened all week, then stops himself and looks up sheepishly. "Oh, sorry. That's probably way too much information."
He smiles at the feeling, pushing his head more into the other's neck. Nice.
"portal... You seem to really like these. There's no negative consequences of using them too much, right? It's always a thing in movies..." He hummed, more to himself than to the other, though with how close they were, he could be easily heard, probably. "It kinda is, I don't understand much. But you clearly enjoy talking about it so I don't mind listening at all." He replied with a small shrug
"Hehe..that tickles..." Peter flinches a little but doesn't pull away when Bob hums, he can feel in on his neck.
"I don't think it's dangerous. I'm not giving anyone portal cancer, anyway. I do worry about mental effects, but I've only really seen that with prolonged exposure to the multiverse field, like with Steven..." He sighs, a little whistfully, then blinks and shakes it off.
He clicks a few more boxes, then nods, satisfied, and turns the screen off.
"what mental effects? What happened to Steven?" His face expresses some obvious worry now as he pulls away a bit to look at him better. Once the screen is turned off, he straightenes up again, looking over at the bed, then at Peter. "You can tell me all about it once we lay down, okay? I think we both could use some rest"
Peter stares into space, blanking out. His brain is choosing this moment to reply the conversation with Steven, where he told him about the divorce, and then they kissed... terrible timing.
He shakes his head, trying to clear it, but the joy has left his face, his eyes look a little more hollow.
"Yeah. Yeah. You're so right." He goes to pull the sheets down and climb in, leaving a space for Bob that he pats.
Bob notices the shift but doesn't comment on it yet, moving towards the bed, taking up space next to him. He's clearly not entirely sure about the position yet so he just lays on his back, staring at the ceiling for a moment. "Do you want to talk about it?" The question comes out quieter as he shifts to face the other, look him in the eyes, as if he was searching for something.
Peter sighs and rolls onto his side toward Bob, resting his cheek on his shoulder and pulling himself close with an arm around his chest. It feels kind of safe and warm and quiet, intimate in a nice way, like they could tell secrets and no one else has to know. It reminds him of sleepovers when he was a kid, or maybe a young teen.
"I guess so. I feel like I'm always prattling on to you, sorry. Wait, are you a back sleeper? Or do you wanna spoon? Let's get comfy here."
Bob stared at him for a moment. Those big, unblinking, somehow always lost or panicked eyes. He didn't share the bed with anyone too often, last people being his exes he had no longer contact with. Or Yelena. But they usually just fell asleep during movies so the position was never a definition of comfort.
"spooning could work. Or like... Resting against shoulder? You know what I mean. Yeah, whatever you're comfortable with I'll probably will be comfortable with as well" he gave him a small smile
"Ok, here." Peter lifts Bob's arm and tucks himself under it, so he can snuggle back in with his cheek on his chest and one arm wrapped around him. "Is that comfy?"
As if on cue, when they get settled, Portal the Cat jumps up on the bed and starts kneading Bob's other side and purring. He's a Sphinx cat, with hair so short and curly it's hard to tell any in there.
"Oh, see, I told you. Bob, meet Portal. So named by my kid because he's got heterochromia, one blue eye and one amber. It's pure coincidence, haha."
"very" he hummed, wrapping his arm around him, resting it on his side, rubbing it gently. It felt somehow natural. To be this close, to have him against him like that. He wouldn't mind doing that more often.
The almost closed eyes suddenly opened again as he felt some movement on the bed. It took him a second to realise what was happening.
"aww, hello Portal!" His face lits up in an instant, free hand shifting to pet the creature. "Such a cutie.... Adorable name too."
Portal makes biscuits in Bob's side until it's satisfied, then does a circle and cuddles up next to him. Peter pulls up the blankets over all three of them, the cat doesn't seem to mind. If anything it purrs louder.
"I think he likes you, ha. Don't be too flattered, he'll sleep on any warm surface that doesn't move too quickly."
Peter smiles up at Bob and settles back down on his chest. His heart is thumping a strong and healthy rhythm and he's noticably calmer than earlier. Peter likes that. He likes this, it's calm and comfortable and easy. He's almost forgotten what had him so on edge earlier. At least, until he has that thought.
"Hey, Bob?" He says quietly after a minute. "Uh, random question... can you, like, switch on Sentry? Just, whenever?"
After hearing that, he slowed down the petting, as if afraid he's gonna scare Portal away just with that.
"Well, in that case I think I have chances of becoming his favourite. I do run hot due to... Serum and all that." He admitted, maybe joking a little. But it was nice to find positive sides of... That.
He closed his eyes, focusing on the warm spots against him. On purring and Peter's breathing. He wouldn't mind if every night looked like that. Well, maybe not every night but some of them, at least. The next question made him hold his breath for just a second longer, shift over so slightly.
"um... It's always... On. I don't use powers right now but it's always on. It's always there. Somewhere in the back of my head, slipping out if something I can't control happens." His voice was quiet as he explained, shaky just enough to make a difference. It was clear he himself didn't know everything and that it was scaring the living shit out of him, even now, even when he learned to control it. Mostly. "That's why I'm still working on it with Valentina. I don't know how but she seems to actually know a shit ton about it all." He finished with a small chuckle.
Peter gives Bob a small squeeze, letting him know he's still there, that it's ok to be nervous. Bob's voice is resonant in his chest like a purr. Peter nuzzles him and talks quietly, feeling like he can say things that are hard to say when they're just hanging out.
"I'm glad she's working with you. She seems a little crazy and intense, but if it's helping, you can't go wrong...I, uh, I was really scared for you, when I found out that Norman attacked here. I just don't want... anything to happen to you. I wondered if the Sentry powers would activate or whatever, to keep you safe."
The feeling and the closeness somehow helped and Bob relaxed a little more as he focused on Peter's voice. He had to to grasp what he was saying. He nods along, waiting patiently for the other to finish before replying, putting together how he wanted to reply to everything.
"everyone says that about her. But, as you said, it's nice to have someone who can help. She understands so it's easier. And she uses that soft tone when talking to me..." Maybe he wouldn't admit it but he supposed she did start to resemble something alongside a motherly figure for him. But he really didn't want to think about it right now. "I did use them against him. To keep him away from her. And John. They still told me to run away while they kept him busy so... I suppose I didn't help that much. But Sentry makes me very difficult to hurt. So you shouldn't worry. Even if it's very nice... Very very nice. Thank you."
Peter breaths a sigh of relief. "That definitely makes me feel better. I feel like having powers puts a target on people's backs or something. Like I worry so much more about my powered friends than just the, like, normal ole humans."
Peter thinks a second and stops himself. "Except MJ, maybe. She used to be a kidnapping magnet. Our house has insane security now. Also I feel bad for anyone who tries anything on her. Anyway...glad you have people looking out for you. Also you can always call me if you're in trouble...I may look busy but I make time for what's important. Who's important."
"to be honest? I wouldn't mind if someone attacked me with some antiserum, something that would cancel out Sentry." His shoulders shook as he let out a small, quick chuckle. Still careful enough not to frighten Portal.
"Your wife?" He made sure, looking down at him blinking a few times. As much as I love him, remembering names was still somehow difficult for him. "I bet it is. Good. The security, I mean. You look like someone who knows how to take care of that kind of stuff..." He just smiled at Peter's last words. He knew he was cared for. But actually hearing that was something so... Fulfilling in a way. "Thank you. And... Same here. If you ever need anything, I'm here."
Peter rubs Bob's shoulder gently. He can hear the strain in the other's voice. "I'm sorry, dude. I know what it's like to wish things would go back to normal. On my bad days I wish that, too. I've been told I'm crazy for it. But... it's just a lot sometimes, right?"
He chuckles. "Between Wade and I, the security here probably rivals the Avengers tower. Maybe better. I've got interdimensional shielding set up so no one can teleport in without clearance. There was an... Incident with Kingpin, fuck that guy. And if Norman ever..." He shudders and stops himself. "Anyway. Having kids in this business makes you a little paranoid."
"exactly. Everyone is like... But you're so lucky, but something and something. But... After I basically voided the whole city... I know it can happen anytime. But I guess I can only blame the past self for signing up for that whole... Experiment or whatever." He started to ramble a little, yeah, but this time it felt easier. Less scary to share with the other next to him. Maybe they didn't know eachother for long but he clearly became one of his favourite people already.
He chuckled back, even if he wasn't sure why yet. "I thought Avengers tower was a fortress... Well, in that case I'll keep that in mind." Safe. Both literally and... Emotionally. Whatever. "How many kids do you have?" He decided to focus on that part to not make them think about the attacks. They both deserved some rest from that.
"Yeah yeah." Peter nods along. "It doesn't feel like luck. I guess in your case you technically choose it, but you were in a bad place. You musta been, it seems... anyway. It feels more like... drawing crazy cards at a casino. Like sure it's lucky but you draw too many and they're probably gonna kick you out." Peter's rambly and tired too, but enjoying talking. It feels like a pressure release valve, like his body letting go of its tension by gabbing.
"Um. That's a harder question than you might think, haha...Wade runs this place like a foster group home for wayward mutants. So I've got Mayday, and Harry and Benjamin on the way. Then we've got the adopted grown sons, Peter and Wheelie. And James, who's 13 but always seems younger to me. Then it gets fuzzy, there's Rory, and Shells, another Peter, and a younger Wade, and a baby Deadpool, and several other kids I can't even remember who call Wade Dad. I'm sorta defacto dad when they're around. They mostly go to Xavier's, and some of them live here but some just show up for meals and parenting occasionally."
"you get it! I like that you get it. Thank you" he closes his eyes again, now clearly way more relaxed, pulling him as close as possible.
He listened for a moment, trying to count each of the mentioned kids. Fuck. That was a lot. "So... At least eleven? That's... Oh wow, okay. Food must cost a shit ton. And... It must be taking so much time to actually take care of them ... Kudos." He chuckled. It was followed by a small yawn. "Despite that it seems fairly quiet here..."
âHey, itâs gonna be okay.â Wade sits down beside Bob and takes one of his hands in his. âJust breathe for me, okay? Itâs a panic attack. Weâre gonna breathe through it.â
"it's just coffee though. Not difficult to remember I shouldn't drink it" he whines, resting his forehead against Wade's shoulder. "I'm okay, I'm not going to die.."
âYeah but itâs not fair when you want to treat yourself to something and canât. Itâs okay, Bob. Maybe one day you can have it and be okay. Today just isnât that day.â Wade rubs his back with his other hand, trying his best to soothe the other.
"Norman got Goblined, you knew that? He fought with Valentina and she threatened him. I feel like a child parents fight over" he chuckles. "Peter's been helpful. We're cuddle buddies. It's nice... I'm happy you're better"
"...why? You two aren't together anymore or..?" He looks up confused. But hey he focuses on something else than the coffee topic. "Yeah, he is. He said he might make me watch my little pony with his kid. One of them.. I think..."
