me: whats crackalackin? my joints: :+)
this isnt so much a hypermobile thing as it is a happy moment- i saw my doctor again and finally explained the hypermobility (tbh i was just there for an ear infection which turned out to be tmj) and he says all my symptoms indicate a connective tissue disorder, so im seeing a rheumatologist and a geneticist and im just so happy im legitimately crying?? i had started crying and i must've looked terrified because he said "no it's not life threatening" but. they were tears of joy. anyway, thats it
im so happy for you!!!
i think im hypermobile (my doc thinks so but i gotta wait til december for a rheumatologist appt to know for sure) but im not exactly flexible?? im not like, unflexible, but i cant do the splits. and whenever i attempt stretching to improve flexibility my hips n knees pop out of place. does that mean i cant be hypermobile?
that doesn’t mean you aren’t hypermobile, it just means your muscles are tight. eds is concerned with joint hypermobility, not muscle flexibility, and if your joints pop out when you try to stretch, then they’re probably hypermobile.
slipping down the stairs, catching the rail, the weight pops ur shoulder out of place. you straighten up and immediately slip again, while people laugh, because this lanky kid falling twice and shouting "jeepers creepers!" is admittedly hilarious
So, I saw a rheumatologist for the first time today, and the result was not very helpful. I have pain in nearly all of my joints and my hips kinda slide out sometimes, and I bruise easily and have stretchy skin, but all the rheum did was run some blood work for rheumatoid arthritis and send me on my way with the advice of do yoga. Should I try to see a different rheum?
?????? you should definitely try to find a different one, but until you do i think you can safely assume you have eds and it would probably be a better use of your time to see other doctors to help with your symptoms (especially a physical therapist).
Does this happen to anybody else? I haven't been diagnosed yet but my hip joints are super flexible and I have this horrible pain/discomfort behind my knees and they slide around and make awful crunches sometimes I just need to put my legs in weird positions to alleviate the pain but it hasn't gone away and now it's starting in my shoulders too what do I do?
whether or not you have eds it sounds like you’re definitely hypermobile. there are two things that i know of that you can do for your knees: you can do exercises that strengthen the muscles on either side of your knees equally, and you can get knee braces that have compression pads on your kneecaps. My kneecaps started sliding around a ton after i started physical therapy, and it turns out that i had only strengthened the muscles on one side which caused them to pull on my kneecaps unevenly. so if you do leg exercises, make sure you do them evenly. i am getting knee braces soon to help with the sliding until the rest of my legs get stronger. i don’t have any advice for your shoulders though (besides work on your posture), i have the same problem and it sucks.
How do I know if I sublux? My left shoulder sits lower than my right and there's a very small indent near the joint, range of motion doesn't seem at all limited though nor does there seem to be any correlated pain. Is it subluxed? Also I sometimes feel like joints overstretch or are just out of alignment and but then seem to go back to normal on their own in when I'm walking or pick something up. Is that subluxing?
Ok so according to my chiropractor there are two different types of subluxation: medical subluxations and chiropractic subluxations (i cant remember for sure if that’s what they’re called). what you’re describing sounds like chiropractic subluxations, which are less severe and sometimes hurt and sometimes don’t.
I was only diagnosed with bjhs a few months ago (after 7 years of joint pain) and honestly its been such an experience figuring out the weird things I can do. I figured out I can lick my own elbow, touch my right shoulder with my right ankle and so much more. Plus I also figured out that my shoulder isn't supposed to pop out every time I raise my arm so that's nice. Idk just figured I'd share some weird stuff.
hell yeah welcome to the elbow licking club
lol that feel when u fall asleep to the gentle symphony of spine cracks as you roll over in bed
Ya know, being short and reaching for something and nearly slamming your face into the counter because your ankle rolled. Picking something up and accidentally throwing it because your joints didn't grip hard enough. Walking and nearly falling because RIP your hip trynna dislocate... just hypermobile things. I'm fine. It's apart of life lmao
Hi! I am 14 and I have marfans, and I just wanted to thank you for making me feel less alone! I love your blog and just keep doing what you're doing!
thank you so much! this means a lot to me, im really glad it’s helped and i hope you’re doing well
TFW you are on the waitlist for a very specific doctor for five months and she just cancels saying she doesn't want to take on any rare cases like a month prior and there are no other doctors like her in the region of covered by your insurance
Trying to do PT but my hips keep cracking loudly so my physical therapist is staring at me trying to make sure I'm not dislocating a joint
That awful hyper mobile moment when ace wraps or wrist braces have to be included in your knitting/crocheting kit.
