My opinion on her clarification is that she didn’t clarify anything at all, really. She didn’t apologise. Even if she doesn’t think she’s done anything wrong, she should have apologised regardless. Even if she was misrepresented by the journalist, what was included was a direct quote and should have been apologised for. Also, her saying “don’t believe everything you read” at the end was… distasteful.

To be perfectly honest, I don’t think she is racist, she’s just stupid and has little experience being in the spotlight (this is not an excuse, it’s an observation). What she said was racist but it stemmed from intentional ignorance (aka the “it doesn’t affect me so I don’t pay attention to it” mindset), not hate. This may seem crazy but I do think she recognises that there is a diversity problem, she just doesn’t see it as as big of a problem as it actually is because of her white privilege. And she does seem open to being educated, she already talked with Ian Wright about this topic, so I hope she changes and her eyes are opened.
