A redraw of my favorite shot from The Movie
It is not the prettiest but here is a little chart I made of skin tones.
The idea is to eye-drop anywhere on the chart to get a unique skin tone instead of getting stuck in the loop of “white, tan, dark”.
your childhood is gay, and there’s nothing you can do about it!
or, a celebration of some children’s characters we love to relate to (even if it makes cishets mad). hope you all had a happy pride month 🌈
For artists who have problems with perspective (furniture etc.) in indoor scenes like me - there’s an online programm called roomsketcher where you can design a house/roon and snap pictures of it using different perspectives.
It’s got an almost endless range of furniture, doors, windows, stairs etc and is easy to use. In addition to that, you don’t have to install anything and if you create an account (which is free) you can save and return to your houses.
Examples (all done by me):
Here’s an example for how you can use it
Great find, thanks!
OMG HEAVEN!!
Bless you!!!!
Very nice resource for those looking to improve their perspective, composition, and background rendering skills!
Hey so, can we start drawing guys like actual human people??? Idk maybe e could give them a little more,,,, what’s that word??,,,, shape?????
Bc like, most male drawings are like:
When actual guys are shaped more like:
So like, PLEASE for the love of all things good and great and humanly possible, please give men a more realistic body shape
So it appears that Autodesk did a thing.
Go nuts, my friends.
this is my favorite art program. it’s *much* more intuitive than photoshop/gimp or corel paintshop, but it still has the full functionality of a digital art program (layers, brush stabilizer, etc.). it’s not overwhelming to start on like practically every other decent art program I’ve tried, you can just pick a brush and start drawing as if it were paper if you want. plus you can download extra brushes for free! and they publish free art tutorials pretty regularly
ANYONE looking for a free art program: worth looking into.
YALL I LOVE THIS PROGRAM, especially the ipad version!! and i’m psyched that i don’t have to pay $30 a year for it anymore!!!
Save an artist and r e b l o g
Switched from Photoshop to this for graphic design stuff and would 100% recommend!
No of fence but if you’re gonna like. Draw a realistic portrait of an anime character who lives in japan and has a Japanese name you miiiiighhht wanna maybe, I don’t know, draw them with Japanese features?
ANOTHER ADDITION- this goes for most East Asians but don’t fuckin color their skin YELLOW its super offensive
using yellow undertones is okay (as seen in example) but don’t make them look like the Simpsons
ALSO! If you are gonna draw an Asian person with darker skin, don’t make them BLACK! Asian people can have darker skin, but make it REALISTIC!
Asian people are not black and they are not white. Don’t straight up bend their race.
hey im an asian (filipino) with family members that have dark skin and what you call “nonstereotypical asian features”, not to mention that im sure other asians, even not southeast ones, have dark skin esp including people who are mix. there are asians to have skin colors you call unrealistic.
whitening is a real thing within asian communities already, and for you to promote the idea that asians can have melanin as long as its “realistic” isnt helpful to us whatsoever
not to mention that the “dark” skin in the example isn’t actually very dark at all… and the “black” skin in the same picture isnt even close to realistic. thats just gray.
asian people can be dark! south asian and southeast asian people are often forgotten about! its really narrow minded to promote the idea that super pale chinese and japanese people are the only asians that are “real.” i’m also filipino, and while the original post + OP’s example were good, this “realistic” darkness thing is super stereotypical, and quite frankly, kinda racist.
these are all realistic asian skintones. there are also asian people who are darker than this. pale east asians arent the only asians who exist. normalize this.
FANTASTIC ADDITION

Okay but for anyone who legit wants to know how to calculate it correctly:
The elbow joint on average rests a couple inches higher than the navel, so if you measure how long the distance is from the middle of the shoulder to that point then you have the length of the upper and fore arms!
So if anyone’s wondering about legs too, the simplest rule of thumb is that the length from the top of the leg to the knee is equal to the distance between the top of the leg and the bottom of the pectorals:
And I wanna stress that when i say “top of the leg” i’m not talking about the crotch (please don’t flag me tumblr it’s an anatomical term) i’m talking about the point where the femur connects to the pelvis, which is higher up on the hips:
It’s easier to see what I’m talking about in this photo of a man squatting:
So yeah if you use that measurement when using this technique you should get fairly realistically proportioned legs:
But remember! messing with proportions is an important and fun part of character design! Know the rules first so you can then break them however you please!
HOW THE HELL DID I FIND THIS POST OMG
Best friend squad profile pic from a WIP I’m probably never going to finish. Feel free to use, just ask me before you do and give credit where credit is due.

HEY ARTISTS!
Do you design a lot of characters living in not-modern eras and you’re tired of combing through google for the perfect outfit references? Well I got good news for you kiddo, this website has you covered! Originally @modmad made a post about it, but her link stopped working and I managed to fix it, so here’s a new post. Basically, this is a costume rental website for plays and stage shows and what not, they have outfits for several different decades from medieval to the 1980s. LOOK AT THIS SELECTION:
OPEN ANY CATEGORY AND OH LORDY–
There’s a lot of really specific stuff in here, I design a lot of 1930s characters for my ask blog and with more chapters on the way for the game it belongs to I’m gonna be designing more, and this website is going to be an invaluable reference. I hope this can be useful to my other fellow artists as well! :)
art is hard 99.8% of the time but the craziest thing is that the trick to drawing the back of something is just ‘draw the front and then erase everything but the outlines’
E X C U S E M E ! ? ! ? ! ?
you might have to flip or move some things around depending on how symmetrical your subject is but yeah. voila. e magico
