『Sekai ga nai terunara』's PV plot explanation
Recently I have watched many documentaries as well as movies about this kind of plot (DID), I also learn about DID, so here is the plot I understand after learning about DID.
Okay, first of all, please watch the PV first. Link here.

I thought the MV was self-explanatory but seems like your post helped a lot of people to understand what was going on, so thanks for writing all that down. I agree with most of it except for the part where Rena “loses” to Jurina. No arguing that the split of personality represented by Jurina is the one who drugged the teacher and who is taking the picture with him, but Rena somewhat consciously let her do so. Rena from room 1 (let’s call her Rena ①) gives way to Jurina at one point, not because Jurina is stronger than other personalities, but because she was needed then. (clumsy attempt of explanation below)
After realising she had no hope with the teacher because he had a girlfriend, Rena has her most aggressive personality take over.
Jurina : I’m powerless. There is nothing I can do. Except crying along with you. Rena : I refuse to get used to grief. So if the world is crying, I will cry aloud too. Those lines are related to the lyrics (that are about caring about those suffering, wanting to stand up for them and rejecting indifference 無関心) but in the story of the MV it can translated as Rena making the decision to keep her feelings alive, she refuses to become 「無関心」to her own sorrow and to achieve that she brings forth Jurina.
The flashing screens explain pretty clearly what mental process Rena went through before unlocking Jurina :
Conflict? Linkage? Helplessness? Despair? Lamentation? I refuse. I’ll live. Jurina is the one personality emerging when Rena is at her worst emotionally, the further locked up split (number 16 and the last “one” being interrogated while Rena ① speaks first) but she is also the one most determined to live : she is Rena survival instinct. (ps : on that note, Rena’s personalities during the interrogation seem to appear from the most docile to the most unstable and dangerous ones, corresponding to their cell numbers : Aya is cell 6 and is the 6th interrogated, Oba is cell 13 and the 13th heard by the cop. Now I regret we didn’t see Ego, 15th, in action lol)
Well of course once unlocked turns out she is dangerous as hell, she drugs poor teacher boy and she is violent (see how she grabs the inspector), but that doesn’t make her stronger than the other personalities. By the end of the MV, when Rena remembers everything that happened, I don’t see her being taken over by Jurina : those scenes of her with the seringue look to me like memories of when she let Jurina take over. She let Jurina take possession of her serenely the first time and now she is haunted by what she did. The docile Rena① now back to commands is hit by remorses and scared of herself. What if Jurina appeared again?
Jurina is back to her cell, but the gate is open, she could come back.
Hence Rena decides to disappear. Last verse of the song: If the world is crying I’ll cry aloud too I can’t pretend nothing happened If someone is crying I’ll stop by his/her side I can’t live remaining apathetic
The songs gives two options to Rena : cry along the world, feel things, and take the risk to hurt people again, or to become apathetic (無関心) and “stop living”. That’s just one way to read the MV, but for me Rena disappearing is her shutting herself down. She stops “living” by stopping to react to what happens in the world. I’m not too sure what the medical term for that would be but her consciousness is probably gone. If you’ve seen Sucker Punch you will understand what I mean. Not that all of it changes the initial analysis by much but it’s fun anyway to discuss such an interesting MV. But really coincidences can be weird sometimes… (・∀・)
